Jennifer Aniston continued her annual Christmas Eve tradition by having dinner on Wednesday at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills with pals David and Courteney Cox Arquette and their 4-year-old daughter Coco. (Aniston is called “nouna” by Coco.)
Here’s what a source told People about the evening: “Jen and Courteney chatted non-stop Jen was also very sweet to Coco and the two giggled together… Jen usually gets steak, but she asked for fish instead and she ended up getting the sole and vegetables. Jen also had some white wine with her fish, while the rest of the table enjoyed steak. Courtney and David were also in a great mood and they acted very sweet to each other… Coco was walking around the restaurant without any shoes and when Courteney asked her where her shoes were, Coco said they were too tight and that she had to take them off. Both Jen and Courteney were smiling at her. Jen and Coco seem to have a very special bond and it was cute to watch Jen dote on Coco.”
Aniston’s musician boyfriend John Mayer was MIA.

Golden-locked Jennifer Aniston and straw-maned Owen Wilson ( “the butterscotch stallion”) seem content to play second banana to a Labrador retriever (well, a series of them, from pup to aged hound) in this alternately goofy and tender adaptation of journalist John Grogan’s best-selling memoir about “the world’s worst dog.”

Christmas Day moviegoers have opted for a lovable lab and the Oscar bona fides of David Fincher’s epic fantasy yarn The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Paramount) have been bolstered by a strong opening day. Meanwhile, Adam Sandler’s storytelling and a Hitler-chasing, eye patch-wearing Tom Cruise both connected with moviegoers while the dark graphic comic noir of Frank Miller is a dud.
The biggest box office gift under the Christmas tree belongs to Fox. Marley & Me, based on the tearjerker of a novel by John Grogan, has posted the all-time best Christmas Day opening with a stellar $13.9M, but the good news for Hollywood doesn’t stop there. Paramount’s David Fincher epic Benjamin Button appears to have posted the all-time #2 Christmas Day opening with $11.1M while Adam Sandler’s Bedtime Stories has notched the 5th-best with $10.75M. Even Tom Cruise’s Valkerie (MGM/UA), once thought to be a total disaster, has managed the all-time #11 opening for the movie-friendly holiday with an estimated $7.35M.

My Early 4-Day Estimate for Marley & Me is $53.79M, but I will be fascinated to see how word-of-mouth affects its holiday run. I am, personally, a great lover of dogs and am a big fan of Grogan’s novel. (I would argue that my dogs - a 10-year-old rat terrier named Hollis and a 2-year-old beagle Sophie - are worthy of their own novel and movie.) The book, however, reduced me to a blubbering puddle, and, although I haven’t seen the movie yet, I’ve been told that the ending is very tough-to-take. One of my regular studio contacts told me that they think Marley & Me should come with a warning label for parents. Something like, “This movie may induce uncontrollable sobbing among children and dog lovers of all ages.”
Are people in the mood for “a good cry?” Sometimes it’s just what people are looking for. Or, in these challenging economic times, are people seeking purely happy trips to the multiplex? I’m guessing that the word-of-mouth will be a little mixed along these emotional lines, and that could slightly dampen the movie’s performance. Still, I think it is very safe to project something in the $113M range for Marley & Me by the end of the 4-day New Year’s weekend. In a rough year, it will be only Fox’s second $100M grossing movie for 2008 joining Horton Hears a Who.
There is great news for Paramount and David Fincher on this Christmas Day. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a big hit. Based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story, this spiritual tale starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett will build on its $11.1M opening day at 2,988 locations. The screen count may be as high as 3,500 with Paramount securing multiple screens at many key locations for the 2 hour 48 minute epic. The film will likely manage about $45.35M in domestic ticket sales over the 4-day Christmas weekend.
Benjamin Button will do very steady business over the next 11 days, and the spectacularly-reviewed film will likely have $100M-$105M in the bank by the end of next weekend. It will continue to hold well through awards season with major nominations at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards. I strongly believe that this movie is headed for something in the $170M domestic range.
Only 2 of the last 11 Best Picture winners have failed to break through the $100M barrier, including last year’s Coen Brothers thriller No Country For Old Men.

Academy Awards voters, whether they admit it or not, love big blockbusters, and after last year’s terrible Oscar broadcast ratings, there will be a strong yet silent, push to recognize films that movie-goers all over the country have seen. Benjamin Button is now likely to fit the bill nicely. Wouldn’t an Oscar night showdown between The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and mega-hit The Dark Knight make for a spectacular Academy Awards storyline (although, there’s always a chance that Danny Boyle’s gutty, little indie Slumdog

This to me represents probably Jen and Brads marriage very well. He does the hard work and the quality work to make something successful, and she slides by with the cute stuff.
She is worth over $100 mil dollars she mostly earned from playing Rachel Green on Friends. She has basically done nothing but contuue to play that one character over and over.
Brad has stretched out to produce. He challenged his acting over and over with different characters. He never plays it safe for the money, and he IS the main character instead of the support (unlike in his marriage. remember how Jen forgot to thank him when she won award? when he was probaby her biggest support system)
I know he will be rememberd for this role long after (I really believe he will win the Oscar this season even if he does not care if he does or not) and no matter if M&M makes more money, Brad is the one who earned and won the ultimate prize. His freedom from the mediocre, and industry respect.
People are going to M&M for the dog. Anyone could have played OH! guess what? Jennifer (yeah, the character Jennifer plays is named Jennifer). People seeing TCCBB are their for Brads wonderful marvelous and amazing acting in a damn great tale.
Again Jennifer gets something for doing little, but even if she won the battle, Brad will win the war.
Marley and Me were never predicted to do badly in the box office. It is a family dog movie opening in the family holiday season. It’s a DOG movie, not an Aniston movie. An “Aniston” movie would have been “Rumor Has It” and “Derailed”. She cannot carry a movie as a lead movie star, but a ’sidekick’ to a DOG. Brad Pitt PROVED to be a male LEADING ACTOR in one of the most highly acclaimed DRAMA OF THE YEAR.
But of course, JenFans will have to grasp at any sign of a “win”, delude themselves. In another words, Marley and Me didn’t have to have Aniston. It would have won the box office with any mediocre actress. She is totally replaceable.

Lol, marley and me is a hit, but no one mentions Jennifer’s name in any of the write up. Steve Mason did not mention her name at all and also Nike Finke, who only said its Owen Wilson’s movie. Lol, they all know that Aniston has got nothing to do with the performance of the movie, its really because its a dog movie, who was in the poster and of course tJohn Grogan;s best sellesr book that made it a hit. And Aniston is such a cheat, heavily promoting it to get credit for the success of the movie. But look no one is pointing to her as being the reason why the movie is a hit.

Well, here in Brazil M&M is doing very fine, thank you. The reviews are all good. In fact, the biggest newspaper here (O Globo) has Aniston’s movie rated higher than Brad’s “Burn after reading” (BB has not opened yet)…
Jennifer is very popular here, fyi. Not as much as Brad, of course. But i guess popularity does not matter in this case. Those are completely different movies… and i think both will do very well.

I am not NOT a fan of Brad and Jolie ,but they are making high quality good films. They are doing someting for society: United Nations, New Orleans, etc. They do have kids, a family. They are up for Golden Globes this year and you canbet on Oscar noms come after that. They like their work, but the movie business is not their only gig .
Jennifer plays Rachel from friends in every role. Marley and Me is a dog ,movie. Marley has top billing even in the title. Jennifer was married toBrad. He wanted a family after a while. She did too. ..but she really did not at the same time he did. Check outtheir early interviews with Barbar Wlaters. Seems Anniston said she wanted a family after Friends ended, but then after a B-movie ,then after another, and then after the moon turned to cream cheese and then after that….He moved on. that deal breaker is a big one for a lot of couples. Marriage is compromise, truth. Respect. They were sort of splitting before Jolie ,but Jolie moved on in on him and took off, wrongly with her. If I were Anniston ,I would have pregnant when he took that role and been on the set and location quite often. I would have had two kid sby now or three and Jennifer still could have been making those B-movies she has made. I would have also started a charitable foundation with Brad if I were Anniston.
