Cate Blanchett - “Vanity Fair” February 2009

Aussie screen queen Cate Blanchett is golden on the February 2009 cover of Vanity Fair. Here’s a snapshot of her interview:

On not ruling out more babies: “Who knows? Don’t close those doors. The world is very overpopulated, but we do make nice ones. They all look like [my husband Andrew Upton]. To say he has dominant genes would be an understatement.”

On signing a three-year contract with Australia’s leading theater: “Andrew had worked closely with the company, and when the idea came up he was wondering if it was something we wanted to do together. The opportunity presented itself, and it would have been utter I’m not a spokesperson against the world of injectables. If you grow up in an environment where your mother gets you a boob job when you turn 18, what hope is there? But I didn’t grow up in that world. The reason I went to train as an actor was that I was interested in it for the long haul. You can become very self-obsessed, but you’ve got to keep looking outward.”

On keeping a careful distance from Hollywood: “I don’t exist in that world. I observe it, but there’s so much else to be thinking about. Maybe it’s because I’m with someone who’s not with me because of that; I’m not a trophy. He likes the vessel, but he also wants to make sure the vessel is full. The world of film can be so noisy, but the other aspects of my life are actually the noisiest parts of my life. My best friends are a social worker and a visual artist.”

Cate plays Brad Pitt’s soulmate in their latest movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in theaters now.

I really hope she said this as a joke:

“The world is very overpopulated, but we do make nice ones”.

What exactly constitutes a ‘nice’ baby? Looks? Race? Here’s a thought - maybe a ‘nice’ baby is one that actually grows up to contribute something significant to the world.

But as usual, people don’t think beyond their desire to indiscriminately litter the world with their genes. I respect people who adopt a lot more; they’re less concerned with propagating their genes than with taking care of those already existing.

That was a good movie

# 3

i think she is a good actress, but she is very ugly in my opinion!

# 4

She’s gorgeous, but her hubby is quite homely, though I’m sure he’s a lovely person “inside”. It’s just unfortunate that her kids inherited his looks, not hers.

Now this is a CLASSY actress who is about the WORK!…..(…not just some blonde floozy who emotionally manipulates us with DOG movies and poses NAKED on the cover of magazines!..while trying to convince us that she’s ‘HAPPY’….)…

..It’s good to see an actress who takes the work seriously and acts her age.

Bravo.

Love Cate. She’s beautiful and classy :-)

She is just exquisite. She’s bright and beautiful, and such a wonderful, truly talented actress.

She is stunning to look at in Benjamin Button, why anyone would think NK is more beautiful or an actress on Cate’s level is beyond me.

I saw the movie and I was truly moved. …

…The movie Benjamin Button was absolutely beautiful and stunning! It makes you think about your life and affects you in a profound way.

…Fincher will get an Oscar for this…and Brad should get one too.

…They will all DEFINETLY get nominated…

why are people so superficial???
always commenting on looks. WGA F*K

Cate & her husband are sweet & kind people.

I think CCOBB will do better in the long haul than right away. It’s a very good movie and worth the money. The movie is doing very well here and getting wonderful reviews. This film is something that Cate and Brad can be very poud of.

I saw the movie and it’s a bit disappointed….i think Brad should be nominated but Fincher not, neither Cate. I think she is a good actress, but far away for being one of the best!

“I don’t exist in that world”?????
what is she talking about?doesn’t she work in Hollywood????
I hate when people try to be different and say bad things about this industry! they work in it because they want, not because they are obliged!

I love Cate, she’s definitely a woman with substance!

i LOVE HER, SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL

I agree with number 12. why is an hype to talk badly about Holywood?they are rich and famous because of it, so plese Cate, be honest!

poor photoshop, and she is sooooo ugly guys!

She’s a really great actress of this time.

But I agree with No. 12 too. Many of Hollywood talk like this too.

George, pay attention! It means she doesn’t relate to that world. She never has. “Hollywood” is a byproduct of her profession. She always thought she’d be a stage actress and when “Hollywood” came calling, it was a work opportunity so she took it. The rest is history. I think she has become one of the most gifted actresses of all time and one who actually has her head screwed on right. A woman with a profound sense of self and intelligence.

She is gorgeous in these shots! Wow Annie, you did a tremendous job! And such classy and elegant shots, no nudity needed, thank you!

I just saw TCCOBB and it was amazing! A touching tale which left me reflecting on life and death. Cate, once again, stole the show for me and gave a truly graceful and sensitive depiction of Daisy Fuller.

This woman is HOMELY. I don’t understand how anyone can find this plain-looking thing attractive.

Of course it was a joke, #1.

How could you say such a thing, #4?

George, Jako and Joanne–

You know the entire acting industry world wide doesn’t revolve around living in Hollywood and existing for photo ops. The Bollywood movie industry is absolutely huge and they are not dependent upon Hollywood nor do they exist in that craziness. Same for the Asian movie industry–huge in Asia.
Folks like Meryl Streep, Hugh Laurie, Helen Mirran, Cate Blanchett, and many many others do not exist in the Hollywood lifestyle. What is wrong with that. Others like Kidman, Jackman, etc do. Nothing wrong with that.
You are reading insults into her statement that are not there.

she is great actress and she is very charisma and cool.she have not standard beauty therefor she is very special.
and actually she generally work independent productions in hollywood.

nr21,

and what is Hollywood lifestyle?because i think she has the same lifestyle as Kidman, Jackman or even Meryl…don’t see any difference between them….Of course Kidman and Jackman, Jolie and Pitt, Aniston…appear much more in magazines, because they sell! They are a “key” to many paps, because they are popular! I’m sorry for Blanchett, but she isn’t very well know wordwile!

I think She, Nicole and Meryl are the greatest actress working right now, but the fact is that Blanchett tries to hard to be different…i don’t know if you understand what i mean….maybe i’m wrong but i don’t think she is honest or natural in many things she says…just an opinion

Great cover. She looks beautiful.
Very old Hollywood glamour
