OlderCate Blanchett: Brad Pitt is Tireless
Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett was just interviewed by Reuters about her role as Brad Pitt’s soulmate in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, out in theaters now. Here are the highlights:
This is your second film with Brad Pitt after co-starring with him in Babel” Is there anything noteworthy about working with him that the moviegoer might be interested in knowing/ He is unbelievably committed to what he does. … In both films, there’s been a sense that he’s asked really difficult questions of the film before he’s committed, and he sort of tends to be, I suppose from the outside, a little bit reticent to jump in. But that’s only because he wants to know if he’s going to commit 100 percent, he wants to know that the film’s going to be as committed as he is. And so I really admire him for that. He’s really tireless.
You’re not a dancer by trade, but is it true that you had some childhood dance instruction? Yeah, I studied ballet, but also in drama school the most powerful training for me was the movement training. And look, if I had my way over again, I’d be a Butoh dancer (contemporary dance form originating in Japan), or I’d desperately try and finagle my way into working with (modern dance choreographer) ‘Pina’ Bausch. So, (in Benjamin Button) I worked with Michelle Johnston, who was the choreographer.
BTW, if you haven’t seen Button yet. Run to your local movie theater and see it!!! It’s fantastic.

I knew she was a dancer! Her legs give clue of this. You can always tell. She is a fantastic work of art to me. She is just so good of an actor to me.
I very much think Brad is a man in personal life and professional life who will work very hard and harder than most if his effort is joined by the others who are with him. If someone isnt trying just as hard and giving the same energy, he doesn’t want to wast time with it.

Dear CS Monitor,
Your film reviewer either suffers from a severe case of a LACK of ‘nuance detection’, or he is lacking a heart. After reading his review of the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I’m really questioning whether he actually saw the film!
This is one of the few reviews of this movie that failed to see anything uplifting, reflective,poinant,bittersweet,touching, or heartwarming about this film. Even the few lukewarm reviews that I’ve read have conceded to some human emotions that connected with them regarding the brevity of life,love,and discontent. Your film reviewer, while pointing out all the faults he’s found with this almost 15 year project, has managed to overlook any hopeful aspects of the picture at all. Methinks someone came into the theatre with some pre-conceived notions, or some chips on his shoulder which had his opinion of the film half way written!…which is a shame for your readership.
…I’d also like to say that the inference regarding Brads fans being disappointed or grossed out by the way he looks in the film is really condescending, agist, and somewhat sexist. To think that women of all ages cannot accept Brads talent without it being presented to us in a ‘hunky’ package really underestimates his fans as well as women in general. For the Cristian Science Monitors sake, I hope your Film reviewer is not as ignorant and insensitive as he’s portrayed himself to be.

At the Academy Awards, Oscar is an old man, but over the years the academy has tried to make the awards show young and fresh.
That would make it a perfect opportunity for the show this year to honor a beautiful and magnificently made film that is worthy of recognition.
David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is a brilliant work of art. The special effects, writing, direction and most importantly the acting in this adaptation of a 1921 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald is superb.
Brad Pitt, in the best role of his career, is perfect as the title character — a baby born as an old man who gets younger as the years go by.
Every part is well cast, especially Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond, Taraji P. Hensen and Tilda Swinton.
Blanchett, who starred with Pitt in “Babel” in 2006, plays Daisy as an adult, the object of Benjamin’s affection. Being a great actress, it was not hard for Blanchett to play a character from her twenties to old age. There is a wonderful chemistry between Blanchett and Pitt that wasn’t as clearly seen in “Babel.”
Ormond, also a former co-star of Pitt’s from “Legends of the Fall” (1994), had no scenes with the Benjamin character, but plays a vital part in the way the story is told. Her subtle performance brings tremendous emotion in this important supporting role.
Swinton once again proves there is no such thing as too small a part, playing a women who is briefly in Benjamin’s life.
Hensen plays Queenie, Benjamin’s informal adopted mother. With brash humor, Hensen — in an award-worthy performance — brings the heart and soul to the story.
The visual effects and makeup in this movie, so important to the believability of the story, are brilliant and not at all a distraction. One can actually believe in the possibility of the transformation Benjamin and Daisy’s characters both go through as they grow younger and age, respectively.
In his short movie career, Fincher has made several interesting and dark movies, including two with Pitt. The pair worked together in 1995 on “Se7en” and again on “Fight Club” in 1999. His outstanding 2007 film “Zodiac” was one of the most underrated films of that year.
Perhaps because the two have worked together successfully, Pitt truly trusted what Fincher was trying to accomplish, and worked with obvious ease and confidence in a very demanding role.
In “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Fincher is able to blend drama, action, humor and romance into a fully realized story line that is mesmerizing.
The film covers several important moments in U.S. history and weaves them through the very simple life of the main character.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” will be a leading contender for many major film awards this season, and has already received many Golden Globe nominations.
Though it has a running time of almost three hours, one will not even notice, and will probably want more. It is the best movie I have seen this year.

C’est le nouvel an, Happy New Year 2009! :) Little miss Zahara will be 4 years old next week, I can’t believe how fast the time goes. Well, I saw BB this week and it was an absolutely fantastic movie. Both Cate and Brad give wonderful performances. Brad is one of our most underrated actors! Glad he is getting some award recognition for BB!

I have to say I saw this movie this past Sunday and I LOVED it! When I saw it was 3 hours long, I was a little leary….that’s a long movie to sit through! But while I was watching it, I never once thought about the time, and when it was over…I found myself thinking how fast it went by. The casting was brilliant, and each actor brought such depth to their character. Best film I have seen in a LONG time. Brad Pitt was awesome in it.
That said, JENS BARREN WOMB…you give the Jolie-Pitt fans a bad name. I happen to like Brad and Angelina, and think they are a great couple….but you need to ease up a little bit. Unless you know Brad and Angelina personally, I think you are getting a too worked up over a simple comment about some actor. Just my opinion…..

I love Cate.. She is a wonderful actress and she and Brad work well together. I don’t listen a great deal to Tab mag. the majority of stuff written in them are lies. But because most people in our country can not think for themselves, they tend to believe anything and everything printed or blogged. It would be great if we used our common sense and realized that the purpose of the magazines are to sell. Whether it be lie or not. In regards to what Cate said about Brad… I chose to believe her. She actually knows the man. SHE has met him.. So I find her words and opinions more credible then those of a magazine or of people who spend their time trashing individuals they do not know, just for the sake of trashing them. I saw TCCoBB twice.. and could see it again. A wonderful movie. Brad was great and so was Cate. Although I have to admit that Tilda and Taraji were my favs (next to Brad).
We are now in the year 2009. It is beyond sad that some people on this thread have decided to continue the childish behavior that has been going on for 5 years now. That is as long as the war in Iraq. Brad Pitt is an adult who gets to decide on his life.. just as we all do. It would be great to see this stupid stuff end once and for all. Cate is in TCCBB, and so any news pertained to that fact is going to possibliy include mentions of BP just like her interview did, and since that is the case I WILL now bring up that this morning on one of the network shows, a majore critic was asked which movie out of all did he recommend to see and Oscar pick, and he picked BB as the one to see, and see prefar on the bigscreen, and he pick Brad and Cate for best actor and actress. He also said Brad is this generations Paul Newman. He suggest that like Newman, it took a while for people to see past the face to the actor.

Cate is a real and down to earth person in the same vein as AJ. She does not like HW either and keeps her distance ergo keeping her objectivity and integrity.
I’m sure when Brad worked with Cate in Babel he admired her substance and talent and intelligence. Then he went home to HW fluff and vanity with little talent or intelligence. So when he met AJ and found in her many of the same qualities as Cate, I think he came to realize there were ‘real women’ out there that could match his depth of character and need for more meaning in life other than the HW lifestyle that leads to nowhere …except maybe Cabo.
Cate and AJ became the new benchmark for women in his eyes I personally believe.

As I’ve been saying - I’ll continue to post on Jared’s. I may not be too happy with him not responding to my e-mail, but unlike some people I don’t think Jared has sold out to the tabs or Huvane or anyone else. Jumped the shark with the tab threads? Yes. Sold out? No. But…dude could help himself out immensely by responding to his e-mail when people are mad at him. Not doing so gives the impression he either doesn’t care that people have complaints or can’t be bothered to deal with complaints. Neither is good.

I’ve said all along that Jared is running a business here. But the first tenet of business is to keep your BEST and most LOYAL customers happy. If he’s going to succeed he needs to remember that. Growing your business is one thing, but HOW you grow it is also important. By posting tabloid threads he’s running the risk of encouraging more trolls and haters and having a less friendly, less accessable, less likeable and less enjoyable site.

Like all this crap dissing ‘Sex in the City,’ a film that was a huge success at the BO and made quite a powerful statement in Hollywood given that all 4 main characters are late 30’s-40’s women. With threads like this - you can see the bias and the sexism. Brad = male = person of value to not be trivialized. Angelina = female= person of nonvalue to be trashed in the tabloid media by other catty females, with tabloids bought by same.

Maybe, but in defense of some of the fans, they have seen all over the web, for years now, the depth and breadth of attacks on Angie and as a consequence they want to throw the “words’ back. If it sounds immature so be it but I think if you look closer you’ll find many posters are just irritated that they have to spend any of their time stomping on lies that seem to roll so freely on too many other sites. Most fans visit here out of love and they don’t appreciate their object of that love being smeared.

Lorri4424, and what does Jen do for you? Is she the one helping in the rebuilding of New Orleans or what? Brad is the one who gives back to help the poor where the government is doing next to nothing. The movie BB was filmed in New Orleans, gave a lot back into their lackluster economy and you are here celebrating BB does not beat a dog movie that plays in more theaters and have less screening time. Am I missing something?
I have not yet seen this movie (hopefully tomorrow) but from the reviews, both from the posters and from the critics, I must say I am absolutely happy for Brad and Fincher. Fincher, for the years he has dedicated to the project and Brad for the critical acclaim. Hopefully, they will recover the $150m (no doubt an exagerrated figure) and more, when the film hits overseas and Brad will finally get his Oscar. At the very least a nomination.
Marley is not in competition with TCCOBB. What do these loonies JA fans not get. It’s been explained countless times even from media the case and I don’t have to repeat them. Happy for JA that she hit a jackpot with this movie but not so lucky that it’s not getting critical acclaim like TCCOBB and for goodness sakes, it’s becoz of the dog…like Harry Potter.Put the stars in a diff movie..and I’m pretty sure the result will be different for them as well. What I did not like though is the way Maniston manipulated the media with her “poor me..then don’t pity me”. I have no love for this woman at all….don’t like her at all.
Benjamin Button is not showing here in Bermuda yet. Marley and me, 7 Pounds, Bedtime Stories and Up have been showing for the past week. Like me, many here want to see Benjamin Button: it has good critic buzz, subject matter and Brad Pitt.
Angelina and Brad have really had a wonderful year - critical acclaim, commercial success and best of all, the twins.
It will be great seeing them on the red carpets having been acknowledged by movie critics and peers for their craft. Last year they shared a sweet secret (the twins). You can only wonder what they’ve got up their sleeves this year!
