OlderPete Wentz Loves (And Hates) Brad Pitt
Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz has taken to his blog again to list his “Top 9 Gripes of 2008″ as well as his “Top 9 Favorite Things of 2008″. Strangely enough, Brad Pitt’s latest movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, made both lists.
GRIPE: “This is a weird one because it’s definitely on my top list as well. I just think i over hyped this in my own head. This gets nowhere near the [F. Scott] Fitzgerald short story based on the Mark Twain quote I would have imagined in my high school brain. I hate how jumpy the movie is and I honestly don’t think there is much chemistry between Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. I also think it’s kind of a cop-out to push it forward some sixty years in my mind just to have it conclude with some relation to Hurricane Katrina.”
FAVORITE: “It’s weird that I put this on both lists but the truth is you can’t deny [Director David] Fincher’s eyes for film. Also, I give it to Brad Pitt for picking interesting roles. The idea of this narrative is mind-blowing and at times I fell for the story.” (TCCOBB is in theaters now.)
Another notable Top 9 Favorite of Pete’s: “Watching John Mayer doing Van Halen better than Van Halen in an amphitheater in Southern California. Shirts optional, solos mandatory.”

I loved the movie it was fantastic. There will always be critics out there, can’t please them all. I’ve heard more positive than negative about CCOBB so that’s a plus.
He doesn´t love or hate brad pitt.. He doesn´t like certain things of the movie and likes some parts..

This has got to be a slow news day given the insignificance and ridiculousness of this. 1st, who gives a craps about what Pete Wentz thinks about anything? And 2nd, titling the item that way and implying that Pete has some personal feelings for and against Brad Pitt is really misleading. Pete was speaking in reference to a movie, not to Brad personally. Seriously……

I loved the film but I hated Brad Pitt for his lack of emotion when he was younger in the film…

I could agree it he gave his point of view on other movies. Where is his point of view on all the other award contenders or the latest Christmas movies.
His point could be seen as a little skewed since he is great friends with John Mayer who just happens to be dating Brad’s X.
So, it doesn’t come across as innocent as you make it out to be.

I think that Just Jared wants you to get that from the blog, but that doesn’t seem to the be blog’s intent. It’s just another attempt to keep the Jolie/Aniston thing alive since it seems to drive many posts on this site.

And how do you know what he has given his opinion on that hasn’t been reported? I’m thinking he was probably asked about this specific film for some reason. It isn’t clear what circumstances these statements were made under, but I highly doubt it was to get his view on all the award contenders.

I don’t really care what Jared was trying to do when I read this my question is why this movie? Where is his personal review of other movies? It is one thing to talk about it among friends but if you are actually going to put it on a blog (which he did) then why this movie? Did he not see any other movies? Where is his review of them. I like his response. Not everybody gets orgasmic over the Pitt, which means there is some sanity in this world. Yep Wentz has been on the Jolie Pitt theme for a while. He and JM must talk about them alot. However I don’t read this as a negative toward Brad. It’s more a negative toward the script. But Wentz needs to stop trying to get attention by speaking about B&A.

I didn’t think Cate and Brad had chemistry either. In fact the whole Daisy/Benjamin relationship was the most boring part of the whole film. They should of let Benjamin continue his journeys and meet different people. No one cared about Daisy and that shows in the lack of nominations by Blanchett this year.

Everyone in Hollywood spends time and money on their looks. They have to. It’s how they make their living. It’s the people who obviously have had plastic surgery, injections, etc that deny they did and claim it’s from eating healthy and 30 mins of pilates a day who are the joke. CCOBB will win for best picture and Fincher should win for director. It’s a grand sweeping type of movie that HW loves. Should Pitt be nominated? Well he was brilliant as the old/young Benjamin. His scenes with Jason and Tilda were good. His scenes with Blanchett were not. Cate isn’t very good in this film…Pitt will be nominated because the academy screwed him over with Babel and Warner’s and the academy screwed him over for TAOJJ. I have to agree with him about Cate & Brad. LOVED! Tilda & Brad and their little storyline was so touching and sad. I didn’t get that from Cate & Brad, but I did between Cate and the future character of BB. The movie should be a college course. It haunted me for two days and I need to see it again and might this weekend. I really think Nicole Kidman would have been excellent n the role. She can express that almost bi-polar characterisation better than most. Or maybe Julianne Moore too. I’m mad crazy about Cate, but Tilda was sublime. She and Taraji were the best female roles.
Brad was SO amazing. His subtext and knowing and subtle way just made this film a classic when I didnt think anymore classics were in the mix. It just makes you think and I love it.

And yet many people loved it, including me. But in all fairness you are not alone; my 20 yr. old nephew felt about it the same way you did. He thought it was deadly slow and I thought it was elegantly gentle.

Who is this guy? Obviously, he did’t live anywhere near the theater where I live, because it was packed from Thursday (25th) to Sunday. The reason why I knew this because I wanted to watch it on Thursday and couldn’t get the ticket that night. Then I went to the theater again on Friday and Saturday yet no luck getting a ticket. Finally, I saw it on Sunday night. I and my friends had to sit on the stairs because we came in about 5 minutes late. The whole theater was packed. Even most of the seats at the front were unavailable. We found 4 seats left at the fourth row in front after 20 minutes. At the end, people gave a big applause. So, who is this guy that he thinks he knows what a good movie is???

Len LT, The same thing happened to me. Our group of 4 people tried to get in to see TCCOBB and couldn’t Christmas day. A lot of people were turned away with us. We went home got on the phone and tried every showing and finally got seats for the midnight showing on Saturday. My friend who lives in Miami (I live in New York) told me she had the same problem but she was able to get in a 11:45pm Friday night. People were getting turned away all over the states.
So it’s clear Pete don’t know what he is talking about and feeding off Mayer’s situation. To me that’s gay of Pete. I would think he would be busy with his kid and Ashlee, not worrying about Mayer and how he can please him. That’s just too weird.

Pete’s too young in the brain to get BB. He is 29 and the Simpson girl is 24 and couldn’t get birth control right. Both are too young to be parents. How hard is it to understand and use birth control that you get knocked up, then Papa Joe Simpson has to force you to marry his daughter. First off - regarding his comments on Brad and Button - Wentz is an idiot and a LIAR. He’s just fronting - trying to come off as if he’s actually read the obscure Fitzgerald short story, when he has NOT. The most OBVIOUS reason is because anyone alive who is familiar with this particular short story of Fitzgerald’s (and not too many ARE) would KNOW that a 2hr+ film/screenplay with the kind of plot devices and multitude of brand new characters that the Button film has would HAVE to only be VERY LOOSELY BASED on a mostly unknown short story that is only 40 book pages long, where only two of the characters (button and his father) even show up in the film. Outside of Benjamin Button and his father, NONE of the other characters in the film are even IN Fitzgerald’s short story!

Wentz invokes ‘highschool,’ in his comment - I guess he’s PHONILY trying to imply that that may have been when he read the book (though he doesn’t say that outright, I guess so that he can worm his way out later, lolol)…

Furthermore, anyone associated with the film and screenplay, has always said it was vastly different (Fitzgerald’s story is only 40 book pages - this is a 2 hr+ FILM) namely because ALL of the characters, situations and plot points in the film outside of Benjamin and maybe the Dad, are the screenwriter’s characters and wholly new!! NONE of the other Fitzgerald characters including Hildegard, the woman Button marries in the short story, are even in the FILM — what’s more Fitzgerald’s story doesn’t even have elements of a love story - because it’s NOT a love story - therefore ‘chemistry,’ is optional or it’s what each filmgoer takes away…that never was a plot element or genre of the story Fitzgerald wrote….the female character Hildegard is shallow and is not a childhood friend of Button’s (as Daisy is in the film) - in Fitzgerald’s writings Hildegard is used only to show how love really wasn’t an element in the relationship/marriage to begin with, as once the wife hits a certain age, and doesn’t want to ‘do,’ anything anymore Button ceases wanting to be with her …

….that’s why they’ve always said it’s based more on the overall Twain quote about ‘being born old,’ and the cliche, ‘youth is wasted on the young.’ It was never at any time assumed or thought to be the Fitzgerald story ‘come to life.’

I agree with Pete’s comentary on TCLOBB….it sucked. I think the idea of the storyline was great, but the execution of it was horrible. It didn’t get rolling until it was halfway over with, and then it raced to get to Hurricane Katrina….what was it?…a public service announcement movie? I think Brad is tryiing too hard lately. I’ve been reading for the last year that he and his family plan to move to France for the future, and possibly that is why they are mass producing crap …. to get enough money ahead? I think if they would relax, and take their leisure about selecting projects, and putting more effort into them, they both, Brad and Angie, could once again produce quality film. I can see all of their latest productions going to late night tv shortly….so sad….what’s become of them. They are like poison to one another

It’s obvious old patty didn’t even see the film, because what’s eith this, ‘raced to get to Hurricane Katrina?’ business. Uh, quit lying - that didn’t even happen. Katrina is a backdrop but only in the sense it’s going on as Julia Ormond, Button’s daughter is visiting her Mom (Blanchett) in her nursing home…there’s no ‘racing,’ to get to it - as Ormond and the old Cate, with Katrina raging outside are featured right at the start. It’s not even addressed as what we now know Katrina was - to them it’s just a bad storm…and isn’t even a plot device.

Both very intelligent (surprisingly) and interesting opinions. I’ve heard exactly the same thing about how different the movie is from the original short story. It would seem a bit self-serving to change it so much to use it as a vehicle to address Katrina. The original story took place in Baltimore, not New Orleans.
I’m impressed. Everyone is entitled to their opinions - but not on JJ’s site if it can be construed in any way negative towards the JPs.
Good to see someone else being honest about the movie. It was not all that and Brad does pick good roles but the sad thing is his acting his mediocre and leaves you wanting more from his acting. after all these years you’d think he would learn something and give more in his performances.
It’s like he just goes through the motions without really trying feeling them. Ya know what I mean? His eyes are just blank. I don’t like that type of phony acting.

What? No chemistry between Brad & Cate? Wow, did we see the same film? Or were you expecting tonsil hockey raw sex? You lot are amazing. This film was a work of art. Blanchett, imo, was the best part about the film. Tilda annoyed and bored me silly, Taraji was cute but one-note through the entire thing. Blanchett was the one who truly transforms in this film. Everything from her movement, voice, personality and obviously make-up provide for a visceral and substantially impressive performance. Who said Nicole K?! She wouldn’t have been able to handle the transitions as well as a seasoned actor like Blanchett.
And on a Blanchett note, everyone should see this woman do Shakespeare! I just saw her in War of the Roses and she freakin KILLED it! Everyone was talking about her at the end of Part 1. She has an incomparable stage presence and such a powerful voice and projection. I wasn’t a huge fan until I saw her in BB and on stage this past week. Truly phenomenal actress, I can see now why everyone praises her!
I love fallout boy and Ashlee Simpson rocks! I hate Brad Pitt however and all my family and friends think that he and skankelina are really bad parents, fake humanitarians and bad actors! They constantly sell their kids photos and then state they do not want publicity! They are adulteres and I believe Skankelina was very jealous of Jen Anniston and really tried to destroy her! I can’t wait to see Skankelina get hers!
