I can’t be certain about the time, but my recollection is that Reese and Jake didn’t much know each other when Rendition began, but by the time the movie was complete they were more or less a couple in public. This does not invalidate my sense that she went after him to be able to appear to have another man in her life when her husband was exiting it. She didn’t want to appear to be the one getting dumped. And I do think she chose Jake because his life style is similar to hers: no drugs, little drinking, stay home at night, no wild nights out, etc., etc. Both in good control of themselves. But I have no doubt that she went after him, not vice versa.
