Gerard Butler - Golden Globes 2009

Clean-shaven Gerard Butler hits the red carpet in a tux at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 39-year-old Scottish stud introduced the film clip for In Bruges, one of the contenders for “Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy”. Unfortunately, the film lost out to the Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Scarlett Johansson).

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Gerry’s freshly clean-shaven face — HOT or NOT?

Keep dreaming girls.

Gerry looks gorgeous as usual. Love the tux and the clean shaven look. I also like the scuffy beard look as well. Gerry has the most amazing eyes.

Sexytongue @ 01/11/2009 at 11:02 pm

Clean shaven or not Gerard is HOT! HOT! HOT!

# 9

lol, if you look close he actually missed some hairs when he shaved. Go Gerry.

Very, very, nice.

He’s just perfection. Words cannnot describe how beautiful this man is.

soo handsome.. he looks way better without the facial hair

e, you’re right. He does have hairs sticking out all over his face. Maybe he shaved in the limo on the way.

Is he wearing makeup? His face had a lot of redness at the event the night before but it doesn’t show up here. His face looks like a L’Oreal commercial.

Lots of makeup. I can’t put my finger on it, but he just looks weird lately.

love the butler! @ 01/12/2009 at 12:31 am

Ok, so he may have missed a couple of hairs..who’s gives a shiat! He doesn’t have to try as far as I’m concerned! He has the most captivating eyes! That’s right #8! Good call!

He needs to cheer up or something. Maybe he’s sad he lost his sexiness.

drzoidberg @ 01/12/2009 at 1:05 am

Damn, it looks like he got his makeup done by a mortician. He also looks like he’s on the wrong side of forty. He needs to stop whoring himself out to the tabloids and concentrate on making decent films because his days in front of the camera are numbered.

Be nice, people. Gerry is gorgeous, but not perfect and none of us are. He looked great tonight.

“The dogs bark but the caravan passes by…”

Gerry is gorgeous… I love his clean -shaven face…
Thanks JJ… great photos…

sarckastic @ 01/12/2009 at 2:03 am

Ugh, my good lord, Gerry is beautiful as always, but here, here he looks just stunning. He hasn’t been this cleaned up in a while. My God, I melt over that gorgeous hunk of man.

Three words — Love That Man!!!

He should stay clean shaven because it makes him look younger. He’s been looking like he’s well into his forties for a long time. Now if someone would just teach him how to shave properly, that would help.

Anyone notice that he, his manager and his girlfriend took off early from the awards and headed out to the parties? Whenever the camera panned by his table after he presented, their seats were empty.

It was weird that he was sitting next to his manager and Hayden, but his girlfriend was sitting on the other side of Hayden. He paid more attention to his manager. I’d kick him to the curb if he did that to me but I guess some people will do anything to be with a star and go to the parties.

He found a razor! Good for him. =)

#25: How do you know that was his girlfriend?

Gerry never came with any girlfriend and was only at the parties with Alan

Gorgeous Gerry! I love him anyhow: fresh shaven or not, it really doesn’t matter… He’s the best!

Gerry looked amazing to me, who cares if he missed a few hairs. To me it just shows he’s not as concerned with appearances and putting on airs. He’s just a regular guy..I love that about him.

I can’t believe no one has said anything about how thick his accent was….gawd…americanized my sweet ass…beautiful.

I don’t think Gerry has a girlfriend, so no reason to make a statement about him being like that to a girlfriend that doesn’t exist. Unless you know him personally and are in his inner circle, but then, that would be rude of you to blurt that out on the internet, wouldn’t you think?

I’d like inform you that Scarlett Johansson (actress)actually is a clone from original person, who has nothing with acting career.Clone was created illegally using stolen biomaterial.Original Scarlett Galabekian last name is nice, CHRISTIAN young lady.I’ll tell more, those clones(it’s not only 1)made in GERMANY-world leader manufacturer of humans clones,it’s in Ludwigshafen am Rhein,Rhineland-Palatinate,Mr.Helmut Kohl home town. You can’t even imaging the scale of the cloning activity. But warning,H.Kohl staff strictly controlling their clones spreading around the world, they’re NAZI type disciplined and mind controlled,be careful get close with clones you will be controlled too.Original family didn’t authorize any activity with stolen biomaterials,no matter what form it was created in,it’s all need to be back to original family control in Cedars-Sinai MedicalCenter in LA.Controlling clones is US military operation.Original Scarlett never was engaged,by the way

You don’t need a weather man to tell ya how the wind blows and to me… he’s just not that into it.

PS, Even so he looks very, very good. If love were filtering through his eyes he’d look simply exquisite. As that’s not happening… he only looks simply stunning. Seems have some serious thoughts tossing around that handsome head of his!

I though he looked really good on the show last night, these particular pics are not good. I think it is the lack of expression - he looks like those expressionless emoticons - the ones with a straight line for the mouth.

In a word…STUNNING! (I know I was stunned when I saw the first pic!)
Who cares if he missed a spot when shaving. It was probably a last minute decision. (I get the impression he doesn’t like to and frankly when you look that good when you don’t why bother. )
The tux and bow tie are perfection. Now THAT’S a movie star!

He looks totally botoxed. Perhaps that’s why he is so expressionless. You thought he would have learned from the P.S. I Love You fiasco but apparently he hasn’t.

#35 yeah - my thoughts too THAT’S A MOVIE STAR. That gorgeous face was almost like a secret weapon from which he rolled back the tarp and fired it at us in retaliation for some of the hits he’s taken lately. I do think he put a wee bit of new paint on his lovely weapon - but WTF - it’s Hollywood.

What gorgeous eyes this man has. Awesome. Face, hair, body is mighty fine, too. I love the look of him scruffy but it’s also nice once in awhile to see him clean shaven and spiffy. Thanks for the pics Jared !

OMG he is so hot clean shaven!!!! You can see his dimples and the cleft in his chinny chin chin!! Oh Gerry Bless us daily eith that look!

I watched all of the red carpet and pre-arrival stuff on “E” and he arrived with just his manager and also I thought it was strange that when he got up to present, alot of people kept talking through it and he hardly got any applause at all, compared to everyone else there. When he arrived on the red carpet he was acting like he didn’t know where he should go to stand (he went to talk to Cameron Diaz and she turned her back on him, and when he was presenting, they panned the celebrities and Angelina Jolie was actually frowning, as she looked on stage at him and was talking to Brad (I wonder what all of that was about), I felt he kind of was getting the cold shoulder from everyone. (no wonder he looked sad. and when they announced him to come on stage, the only thing they said about him was “will you welcome Gerard Butler, star of “The ugly truth”, (which hasn’t even came out yet and there was no mention of any movies he did this year or even in the past (alot of people seemed to be acting like they didn’t even know who he was) it was just too weird, I think he looks great shaved or unshaven, you go Gerry, we know you are talented and cool, as well as very handsome, in whatever you wear.

gerrylover @ 01/12/2009 at 10:52 am

Gerry looks great…He is genuine and 100% man. So what if he missed a few hairs shaving. No one is perfect…even though he’s pretty close!

You are so right Tracy. And once again they didn’t get his name right and said “Geraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard”. I cringed at that. And he was announced as the “handsome star of TUT” if I remember correctly. Like that’s his only asset. I thought it was really rude how everybody kept talking during his presentation. It was probably a bad thing he was on right after the commercial break. He seemed so nervous and the behaviour of the audience clearly made him feel even more uncomfortable. I felt really sorry for him.

Wow! So, that’s what’s been hiding under that scruff. NICE!

they are hilarious @ 01/12/2009 at 11:16 am

A lot of people said sshhhhhhh, not just Gerry. whatthe? is full of ****. Gerry was never at a table.

Tracy..you are so right..I saw that too…The announcer should of announced and the “Star of 300″..Ger rid Butler…with the correct pronounciation…for Cris sake…How many times do you have to correct people!! 300 was a big hit and it made money at the box office…as I stand correctly over $70 million in ONE weekend… The Ugly Truth isn’t even out yet…All in all..Gerry looked fabulous. He looked just sharp!!

they are hilarious @ 01/12/2009 at 12:00 pm

Was he even sitting in the audience or at a table?

At first he was sitting at a table with Alan and some other people right behind the balustrade. After his presentation I didn’t see him at that table anymore, maybe he also started to mingle and table-hop.

they are hilarious @ 01/12/2009 at 12:28 pm

I would imagine it would be a working event for him.

hot gerard butler @ 01/12/2009 at 12:33 pm

THIS MAN IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS ALL THE TIME!!! LOVE GERARD POST, THANKS JJ!!!

Always, always, always HOT!!! Love him!!!

Well, the Scottish brogue seems to be back which for me is a good thing. He’s one of the few dressed in black and white who didn’t seem to be going to a funeral. Too bad though he’s not smiling much. He wasn’t smiling on stage and the only picture I’ve seen that he’s smiling, he’s posing with some other guy. Wonder why he seems miffed! Probably couldn’t get a date there, who knows.

Crazy4Gerard @ 01/12/2009 at 1:52 pm

In response to #39
Tracy, I am so glad I read your comment. I thought I was the only one who noticed the audience basically ignoring him and treating him like crap. As you said, people kept talking when he came out and he DID NOT get the kind of applause as everyone else did…. I, too, felt extremely bad for him…. people should have treated him better. I know this is just my opinion, but he’s the only reason I watched the GGA to begin with.

Patthekat @ 01/12/2009 at 2:03 pm

Gerard Butler was THE classiest and most handsome man in the joint last night. The measly few moments he had on stage was electrifying. He deserved more time - heck, he should have been the HOST, dagnabit. When is Hollywood going to offer him some BIG BOX OFFICE opportunities like he deserves?
BTW: Gerry doesn’t have A girlfriend. He has many women who are friends. He was serious because he wanted to get his few moments on stage right! He didn’t have enough time to warm up and be himself, for crying out loud. Cut the man some slack.

cubedweller @ 01/12/2009 at 2:04 pm

The whole format of the Golden Globes is ridiculous and trite. The entire room was chaotic and disrespectful to one another. It is a see and be seen event which is all about the clothes and the glitz, not substance. I don’t think Gerard was singled out - none of the clips presenters were given undivided attention.

Gerard looked impressively elegant - the man dazzles in scruff or a tux.

they are hilarious @ 01/12/2009 at 2:46 pm

He kinda looked like a corpse with the makeup on though. The man can definitely wear a suit well. Love the long legs!

I don’t care if he’s straight outta bed .. the man can do no wrong in my eyes. And that’s for looks and actions!

Some comments: yes, he was THE BIG MOVIE STAR in terms of handsomeness, class. and charisma. He took my breath away, literally…I let ou a huge gasp!!

About mentioning “The Ugly Truth” …the Golden Globes is used to PROMOTE upcoming or currently showing films. It’s like a free advertisement. And note: no other star was announced with an adjective attached to him/her. The announcer stated “HANDSOME”..and that he was!

Also…during all the presentations, except, perhaps for Spielberg and the nod to Ledger…people talked, drank, etc. Thye weren’t snubbing Gerry. They ignored everyone because they were probably drunk.

Wasn’t he dressed perfectly? He got on the list of sexiest stars at the Golden Globes, coming in at number 5.(He should have been number 1)

Thanks you, Jared! You’ve come through again!

Keep these pictures of handsome Gerry Butler a ‘coming!

Gerry was the great moment of the night…
I love him!!!

Not handsome. Nice suit. Well dressed. Well behaved. Looked like a star should. But he’s not handsome. If he passed me on the street, he’d look like any other middle aged guy.

#58 - enlighten us - who is handsome in Hollywood these days, since this guy isn’t?

When Gerry walked on stage I about fell off my chair. He was good.

he looked nervous…sweaty.

but he did the best he could under the quick circumstances..then got the hell of that stage.

#57 needs to have the old glasses adjusted. Gerry was by far the most handsome man at the awards ceremony IMHO; second, Simon Baker. But Gerry’s height helps to set him apart from the majority of the other celebs and makes him look especially studly in a tux. Those long legs …

pafan..I totally agree…his height does set him apart..He looked stunning..and handsome

I agree with #61. Gerry was definitely the most handsome man there. But for pure sex appeal, I like his scruff and casual look.

HOT! HOT! HOT!

love the butler! @ 01/12/2009 at 11:23 pm

I’m glad I’m seeing more good than bad on this post! What sets him apart from the others is that he seems real…none of us would never know for sure unless we met him..but, he seems like the real deal. He’s himself, and doesn’t give into the hollywood persona of who he should be. A man should not primp up more than a woman in my eyes..that would make him less of a man, to me anyways. Men are supposed to have scruff, etc. I don’t care if he’s in front of the camera’s or millions of people are watching him or whatever. He should be himself, and he does it in whatever circumstance he’s in. And again…his eyes make me melt! He can have all the man hair or makeup on his face that he likes…his eyes are beautiful! Don’t get me started on his body…it just screams “unga, I am man”. lol…He did seem a little uncomfortable presenting though. Must be alot of pressure, he may not have been feeling it. I couldn’t imagine being his shoes, but, I’d rub his feet better for him anytime!

Chemically altering your face w/injections does not seam very real…but that’s just me. I love him too, but he needs to know we don’t expect Hollywood type behavior from him. Get a grip Gerry.

love the butler! @ 01/13/2009 at 12:10 am

ok, so who was in the office with him when he was receiving these “injections”? You dunno unless you see it for yourself!

Cary Grant, please move over. You’re replacement has finally come.

All the times HOOOOOOOOT!!!!!

who the hell cares whether he shaved, hasn’t got a girlfriend, is with his manager….lets make some decent movies Gerard. He needs to play an evil ******* for achange. Stop this chic flicks. Gerad almost made it with Rock n Rolla.
Gets better looking everyday!!!

#67: You can clearly see it for yourself if you actually look at the pictures instead of closing your eyes in denial. No make up could ever cover these deep lines he had in the Nim’s premiere pictures for example. Now they are all smooth or even gone. The evidence is right out there. He is full of Botox. The actually sad thing about this is that it will severely affect his acting perfomance in LAC just as it did in PSILY. He couldn’t even frown anymore back then. That was just painful to watch. He’s turning into the male Nicole Kidman.

Hate to validate your critique “NO” but I think you’ve spilled it right out here in the good old JJ threads. This Botox issue is not meant as any form of disrespect toward this guy, but it is a legitimate criticism. If you think about it, saying he doesn’t need to do Botox is extremely flattering and he should recognize that. All the charming character and age lines he has earned in his 39 years are just fine with me - and ALL of my friends who are fans of Gerry. I wish him every success in his endeavors as an actor and not as a Hollywood pretty boy which he is not. Move back to NYC or London Gerry - get out while you still can.

#71 & 72 - IMO he looked very handsome at the PSYLY premier…..lines and all. I wish Gerry would stop coloring his hair. The gray is very flattering for him.

Nicole Kidman denies having botox - LOL!

It’s damn if you don’t and damn if you do….He’s either critizied if he’s botoxed and critized if he has wrinkles…He can’t win and people will always find something….I’m sure if we went to an event like that one we’d want to look our very best…All this talk about this or that..bottom line is Gerry looked awesome…Hollyweird, unfortunately, is about staying “young”..It’s all about youth…Some actors can get away with it once they have a name…It’s a PR vehicle…and most of them were botoxed…Did anyone see the room?…

Yes zzzzzz I think you have a point with the damn if you or don’t angle. As a loyal and long term fan I have to point out that all of my fan friends are in the DON’T category. with those of us who really love the talented and handsome Scottish Actor - we say DON’T. For us, the youth angle and the Hollywood Prettyness stuff is just not part of the equation in our admiration of Gerard.
I agree with your bottom line - he does look awesome. But he would look just as awesome and a bit more genuine w/o the chemicals. The thing that can’t be denies with that stuff is - it can affect your ability to act…. maybe THAT is the real bottom line.
I appreciate the thoughtful imput in these Botox posts - thanks for this JJ.

amen, I’ve been a fan of Gerry’s for a long, long time. I remember the days of him doing commercial spots on the radio in the UK..hehehe..I know he’s a talented man. I’ve seen his earlier works from “Shooters” to “The Jury”..and I agree, the DON’T angle is a better approach..unfortunately..that’s the minority in Hollywood. I’m glad to see that Mickey Rouke won for his performance in The Wrestler…even though it’s obvious he had “work” done…his acting ability was still able to shine though. I know Gerry has great acting talents..his range..if given the opportunity…can shine through all the “plastic” which is Hollywood..All that facade…

cubedweller @ 01/13/2009 at 1:56 pm

So true #75. Gerard’s greatest appeal to his long-term fans is his ability to be real. His looks and his personality are unique, and it is refreshing. I find it horrifying to watch an awards show and see up close what many people have done to themselves in an attempt to stop time. It would be a shame if he felt pressured into that by an industry that promotes such an unrealistic standard of appearance. How gorgeous is Pierce Brosnan now, with his lines and grey flecks? I vote yes on the grey, Gerry, and leave your laugh lines alone!

In reality, the bottom line is it doesn’t matter what we think about Gerry’s botox or hair dye. He, along with everyone else in show business, will do what he has to do to get the parts that are being offered. All our sadness about how he looks bad with botox, his hair should be natural…all of that is nonsense if it counts again him in the movie business. Personally, I wish all of Hollywood would stop with the ageism stuff, but unfortunately I don’t see it happening. Those of us that have been fans of Gerry’s for years love him the way he is naturally that is true. The fact is we can’t make it or break it for him. Only he can do that and he’ll do what he has to keep it going. I am not sure he is as botoxed as some think. I’ll wait and see him without his red carpet makeup to decide and even if he is, it’s his call. In my book, Gerry is handsome in any way, shape or form.

#76, why in the world would you mention Mickey had “work” done, that has nothing to do with whether or not Gerry has (Mickey had to have “Work done because of the awful motorcycle accident he had several years ago, it caught his head on fire,as well as his bike, he had severe burns on his face and neck, it was a necessity for him) If Gerry has had any “work” done it would be just because he wanted to. besides I don’t believe he has had any “work’ done, anybodie’s wrinkles can look more prominent from one day to the next, I know mine do. somedays they are hardly there while other days they are really deep looking

The botox crap is ridiculous. He was photographed out and about at events all evening the night before the GGs and looked just fine and just like the usual hot scruffy Gerry. At the Globes he looked different because he had shaved and had on makeup for the TV show. That’s it. We’ve all seen Gerry’s looks change from photo to photo and movie to movie. He’s known as being a chameleon in that way. I don’t think any celebrity would have anything major done a few hours before making a TV appearance before millions in case it went wrong.

My apologies Tracy..I did not realize that he was in a bad accident..Maybe I should of compared afew people who had elective plastic surgery. Alot of men choose that now and this feat of growing old. I guess vanity gets in the way not only in Hollywood but in soceity. Sad really…we should be proud of our laugh lines and wrinkles..It shows our character and that we have lived…

you're kidding right @ 01/13/2009 at 9:58 pm

Tracy - honey you’re in denial….and not the river in Egypt.

Gerry has had a lot of botox. A LOT! Wrinkles do not look better day after day.

I didn’t know that about Mickey Rourke either. I never read anything about this.

yes wrinkles do look better each day, botox don’t think so, good lighting photography and makeup get a look at those photos from Philly and Miami that’s how a real man should look.
Come on Gerard make some more kick **** movies you need to be evil

This is indeed ridiculous. Look at the Elysium pictures, he didn’t have any make up on there and yet no deep lines. He was already botoxed there.
I think a lot of fans are already so used to the botoxed look that they mistake this as his natural look if only he is scruffy and casually dressed. Look at his older movies, even then he had deep lines and wrinkles, much more than now. So you think they just disappeared by some miracle? Wow, if he actually found an effective way of getting rid of his lines without botox he could make a fortune out of that discovery, LOL.

Easy to do the research work on this issue and figure it out for yourself.
The GB sites have galleries with pix easily accessed by event or date.
Since the maximum effect is most visible soon after treatment, and wears off starting at 3 to 4 months - you can look at pictures in those time frames and watch his more natural and handsome face reappear. Candids and razzi shots are best here - as Hollywood events and photo shoots can and do touchup.
I’m still a huge fan and supporter of Gerard. I just think he wold like to know that his fans do not expect more of him in the looks department and he’s totally AOK chemical free.

Yeah, I wish he would have smiled more or something, but does it really matter? My boyfriend can do no wrong, he always looks good.

I think it’s kind of sad that when you look at the comments here that a lot of people seem to prefer his botoxed look, because he does look younger without deep lines, sure. We all do. But then you shouldn’t act surprised or even disgusted that this is what Hollywood demands of actors and actresses. It works, people gush about how great and young he looks. And the same goes for any other actor/actress. If the acting suffers because they can’t move a muscle in their face anymore, hey, who cares… It’s more important to look young for a one minute TV presentation where the camera only catches you from afar anyway than to be able to use facial expressions in your next movie. That’s the way it is these days. With everyone in Hollywood. It’s just that he is not the anti Hollywood exception anymore. He’s playing the game just like everyone else who wants to have a career there.

He looks very sadly and unfortunately - I think so. His bright eyes are missing.

#87 I DO see some thoughtful support here for the anti-botox opinion.

#89: Yes, but if you read the posts closely most are anti-botox because they believe he isn’t botoxed.

Look at the PSYLY premier. He looks fantastic with his wrinkles…imo. He abused the sun (as we all probably had at one time).
Plus he was a drinker and smoker. The two worse culprits for aging, and he just quit smoking last year. His younger look is not because he’s taking vitamins!

Botox or not botox… I could see clearly, in the GG videos, all the muscles of his face moving as he talked… his mouth made all the usual movements that I love so much, (Elvis Presley’s way).
Oh, my God… I saw him in person, talked to him, was kissed by him… he’s really kind, gorgeous and unforgettable. Hope Hollywood doesn’t
change him…
Good work, JJ…

Crikey. What compels me to comment when I have no new wisdom to add to this incredibly diverse and far-ranging dialogue, which fascinates me. First, we have all been advised candidly that actors as well as actresses wear make-up at these events. They are onstage and/or on the red carpet. So this is a given.

As to the original question, shaven hot or not? Does it matter? Personally I like unshaven, not just on this particular man. Hell, men have facial hair. Why should they shave their faces every day unless they want to? Beards look good. Even scruffy beards look good. Clean shaven looks good too. It’s a man’s choice. In any case, actors often tend to look like the role they are currently filming, don’t they? Or they vary as different scenes come up to be shot.

What else here? Yes, I noticed that GB seemed subdued in his presentation, maybe uncomfortable, and I was a bit surprised, but I was personally pleased that he evidently stuck to the script and did his small presentation seriously, without clowning around or calling atttention to himself. His was a minor part in this show Recognizing your role in a specific event without having to try to grab the spotlight can be a step toward maturity. I have read that he has blurted out unflattering remarks about people like A . Jolie, and MAYBE he has alienated some Hollywood power people, but I don’t know that.

love all the comments, wish I was young again, he looks good anyway. The smiling eyes have been missing in most of the latest pics, wish he would put that back.

He needs to start making babies with Jasmine, or even Bianca, if she would take him back. Gerry and Bianca looked beautiful together. They would have lovely kids. That would bring a smile to his face.

Gerry still loves Bianca…always will.

Chellie did he tell you this? I don’t think so.

i think he looks sad and handsome….i’m sure most people in hollywood have had botox but i don’t think he has….just makeup & lighting.

If he loved Bianca he shouldn’t have cheated on her. And how come anyone can claim to know whom he loves or even will love? If he talked about that to friends who had nothing better to do than to tell a fan he should urgently find some new and more trustworthy friends.

Now that I look at the pictures again compared with other recent ones I would agree that GB seems to have had some kind of “work” done. He doesn’t even look quite the way he used to when he was younger. I’m no expert on this, but know that when people have plastic surgery or other kinds of “work” friends often say they just look “different.” It seems “work” doesn’t necessarily recreate exactly the face you had before the lines and wrinkles set in. I recall being shocked when I saw pictures of GB after not seeing any for awhile, because he seemed to have aged so much so quickly after transplanting to Hollywood. Among other things, he looked damned unhappy. I figured, maybe that’s what Hollywood does to you. But as I got used to his older look, I decided I quite liked it IF he looked –and was–HAPPY. After all, a few wrinkles and grey hairs made him seem closer to MY age :) and therefore MORE attractive, not less. But we all know the young demographic , 18 to 35 or whatever, is where the selling is even though baby boomers–45 to early 60s– are a huge population. Did Paul Newman and Robert Redford ever have “work” done? I don’t know. Hey, I’m not against people doing whatever they want to do to look better and increase their self-esteem. I had “work” done. As a kid I had ears that stuck out like little elephant ears. In my 20s I had them flattened. It made a huge difference to my self-confidence. They are still not the prettiest ears in the world but at least I can wear my hair back or up and not feel embarassed by stickout ears. I totally support that kind of help. I can understand movie stars feeling the need to do whatever it takes to look their best. It’s their JOB. But the cult of youth in this country, reflected in Hollywood, is pretty extreme.
By the way, I have noticed for a long time how fast our Presidents seem to age in office, recently read an article noting that phenomenon. There are pictures around of how Barack Obama will look after a presumed eight years in office. Stress takes its toll.
Consider this, forgive and support.

Gerry loves all his beards.

#100 interesting and thoughtful stuff. Just my humble opinion, but I don’t think botox is like “work done.” My observation is that’s what we’re seeing here. Now here’s the deal… when you had your ears pinned did you do it with the knowledge that it might impede your ability to hear?
Injections have altered his look and taken away his expressiveness.
That’s a career problem. His flat aspect and insincere smiles, I believe, are a result of chemical injections. Smile wrinkles aren’t suppose to abruptly terminate below your eyes - it makes your smile seem truncated. I wish he could know that he can just be a great Actor and not fall into the Hollywood trap of facial focus and little else.
He has given up so much to get where he is. I just think he went too far here and needs to know it’s ok NOT to do this. He is gorgeous at any age and Hollywood needs to just deal with it. Forgive and support is good - but can some kinds of support be enabling?

Gerry definitely has had Botox. You would have to be in denial not to acknowledge something this obvious.

#99 - I heard they both cheated on each other….she was no angel either. I can’t believe people are still even bringing Bianca’s name. From the few photos of them together it didn’t like he loved her to me. He would walk ahead of her at clubs, drop her hand like a hot potato while on the red carpet. IMO if you really like/love someone you would want to be seen with them, not act all weird like Gerry does and hide his women. That to me is just immature and stupid. Unless of course he is such a dog that he doesn’t want other girlfriends to see him with other women. Who would want a guy like that anyway?

Damn Hot Gerard ISSSSS No matterwhat he looks like

what a awesome actor!!!!

To #102–Amen–Very good comments and questions. You are saying, I believe, that Botox injections impair GB’s ability to act and convey emotions.

I don’t know about that. I do disagree with one thing. Botox is definitely having “work” done, as are all cosmetic procedures, laser treatment, chemical peels, whatever, even if they are not as invasive or drastic as plastic surgery. This is simply another method of altering one’s appearance, usually to “turn back the clock” as people like to say.
About the ears, good observation. This was not done to look younger, obviously, and no, it didn’t impede my ability to hear. There was never any question of that. If there had been I don’t suppose I would have done it. You talk about ears being “pinned back”, which is a popular expression for what’s done, but folding is more like it. They remove cartilage, fold the ear and force the upper part of the ear into a new position. There is stress, bleeding and irritation at the fold and it can continue for several years. You have to be careful of infection, of sun exposure. No procedure should be taken lightly. My understanding is you don’t do some of these cosmetic operations before someone is fully grown. I may be wrong about that. But for a kid who is told “You have a pretty face,” but also gets nicknamed Dumbo by other kids, such operations can be life-changing. But no, this doesn’t involve the hearing mechanism.

This is off the topic of movie stars having “work” done, I realize. But I would like to see some of these stars who indulge in cosmetic procedures donate an equal amount of money to charitable organizations that help poor kids with correctable deformities far worse than ears that stick out or a few wrinkles. That’s my little soapbox here.
.

Sorry#102. I did not make it clear that from what I know procedures like Botox are not permanent. They can spruce up your appearance but it does wear off in a year or so and you don’t stop aging. In “knife” surgery you actually cut muscles and nerves and can create a sort of paralysis. But you still continue aging even then, and some movement can come back. The human body is incredibly resourceful at healing itself. I mean to say that I don’t immediately see that any procedure Gerard Butler might have had will permanently derail his acting career. On the other hand, some of his immature behavior could if he doesn’t straighten up and fly right. :)_

Too funny Jilliroo ! Yeah, I think Ole GB would agree with you about his propensity to self-destruct…. careers, relationships maybe. I think he does know his limitations tho and that’s part of why he remains essentially solitary. And being in recovery from so much stuff - it’s amazing he can even get out of bed.
He’s an artist and a great one IMHO and I forgive him all that stuff.
I understand the surgery vs. injectables contrast. I also can observe how prevalent it is in his industry. Lying to clients is prevalent in my industry and you can get ahead if you do it. If it helps Gerry get good roles I’d probably ignore it - but I just don’t see it happening. I’d more like to see him in roles of guys whose faces can have a few wrinkles - I’m sure we can deal with it.

Hey #10 Amen! You are still here! Bully! I seldom comment on these sites and mostly figure nobody comes back to see what anyone else said. I sometimes post questions asking people to clarify or defend their comments and don’t get answered. You said lying is prevalent in your industry. What industry is that, or don’t you want to reveal? Are you a politician? A PR person? Lying is prevalent in the world, I fear.
I got so hepped up by my own last comments that I just made a donation to a very worthy organization, Aloha Medical Mission. I know the doctor who started this mission, a brilliant man, superior doctor and talented musician, from the Phillipines. Doctors and other medical people go at their own expense to Third World countries, mostly in Asia, and do surgeries and medical interventions with the poor.
In case anyone wants to donate, it’s Aloha Medical Mission, 810 North Vineyard Boulevard, Honolulu, HI. This is a small but great charity. There are others. Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) is a major one. I get many solicitations from others but I don’t know them. Cleft palate operations are a big thing they solicit for and I would surely give money for a kid to have that help if I’m sure the organization is legit. After all, someone helped me with a much less serious problem in my youth, someone who nonetheless saw that it could make a difference in my life. I know a lot of movie stars give money and aid to all kinds of causes, but if they could really get behind transforming kids’ lives BIGTIME with essential plastic surgery it would be wonderful. Awesome. They could change the world.
I don’t know whether GB does this. Some of his fans do charity work in his name. He seems mostly to party lately. Where did King Leonidas go? Not that we expected him to BE King Leonidas, we know it was a role, but he created the aura of a powerful man who was racing to do great things and even said he might challenge Ahnold for Govunah of California. So far we didn’t even get theRobbie Burns movie, we got a fashion model and Hollywood party boy.

No new Gerry sightings? Has he gone back to Philadelphia or is he still in LA?

cubedweller @ 01/17/2009 at 8:49 pm

Must have left LA - the clubs miss him.

Face-laughin' @ 01/18/2009 at 7:28 am

He’s probably banging the last few chicks in LA before going off to film.
Well…there must have been a few new arrivals since he was last here.
Maybe he’s dippin’ into Maria Menonous.

Wondering? @ 01/18/2009 at 7:33 am

Do you think he’s having a relationship with the blonde Danielle Robinson (part of the Evil Twin company)? She was with him at the Nim’s, RocknRoller, and GG parties? And if you take a look, she is looking very lovingly at GB in the GG pictures on the GALS website?

I noticed the way Danielle was looking at him too. Kind of gaga. She reminds me of a younger Valerie Gogan who played Charlotte in GB’s One More Kiss.

Could be dating Maria Menounos. Don’t you normally NOT want to be with someone you care about at New Year.

someone told me to @ 01/18/2009 at 1:34 pm

Good Lord..
If it is not one thing , it is another..
I don`t think Gerard would do any harm to himself, so what if he has.
Shouldn`t we let the man live his private life himself.. he is a grown man.
Wich is something you can see in the picture..
Think he looks amasing..

wONDERING? @ 01/18/2009 at 1:42 pm

#113 pafan
Looking at her face, I think Danielle could have a little ‘thing’ for him. People who work together often have the strongest bonds. Perhaps all she just has to do is wait until all the skirt-chasing is out of his system.

Danielle gets paid to suck up to Gerry….hence the googoo eyes. She is actually Alan’s assistant.
Maria Menounos is in a very long term relationship with someone and it’s not Gerry. Gerry PR person Joy looks at him the same way.

he is obsessing and preparing for his next role…

hence no sightings.

This is the third time I have commented on anything, now is the second time on this. Gerry has not had any Botox, all the wrinkles are there. If he has had his ears pinned back or not does not affect age. If compared to much earlier photos, he now has the perfect American smile, before there was no perfection but I loved the old smile more. I think maybe the shock of the clean shaven face which we have not seen in a while, is what may make him look younger. I am not an expert.

serenity57 @ 03/03/2009 at 2:47 pm

I haven’t seen one Scottish man yet that wasn’t handsome .. and YES Gerard, YOU ARE VERY EASY ON THE EYES. Looking good with or without facial hair, and I love the accent.
