Gerard Butler - Golden Globes 2009

Clean-shaven Gerard Butler hits the red carpet in a tux at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 39-year-old Scottish stud introduced the film clip for In Bruges, one of the contenders for “Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy”. Unfortunately, the film lost out to the Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Scarlett Johansson).

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Gerry’s freshly clean-shaven face — HOT or NOT?

amen, I’ve been a fan of Gerry’s for a long, long time. I remember the days of him doing commercial spots on the radio in the UK..hehehe..I know he’s a talented man. I’ve seen his earlier works from “Shooters” to “The Jury”..and I agree, the DON’T angle is a better approach..unfortunately..that’s the minority in Hollywood. I’m glad to see that Mickey Rouke won for his performance in The Wrestler…even though it’s obvious he had “work” done…his acting ability was still able to shine though. I know Gerry has great acting talents..his range..if given the opportunity…can shine through all the “plastic” which is Hollywood..All that facade…

So true #75. Gerard’s greatest appeal to his long-term fans is his ability to be real. His looks and his personality are unique, and it is refreshing. I find it horrifying to watch an awards show and see up close what many people have done to themselves in an attempt to stop time. It would be a shame if he felt pressured into that by an industry that promotes such an unrealistic standard of appearance. How gorgeous is Pierce Brosnan now, with his lines and grey flecks? I vote yes on the grey, Gerry, and leave your laugh lines alone!

In reality, the bottom line is it doesn’t matter what we think about Gerry’s botox or hair dye. He, along with everyone else in show business, will do what he has to do to get the parts that are being offered. All our sadness about how he looks bad with botox, his hair should be natural…all of that is nonsense if it counts again him in the movie business. Personally, I wish all of Hollywood would stop with the ageism stuff, but unfortunately I don’t see it happening. Those of us that have been fans of Gerry’s for years love him the way he is naturally that is true. The fact is we can’t make it or break it for him. Only he can do that and he’ll do what he has to keep it going. I am not sure he is as botoxed as some think. I’ll wait and see him without his red carpet makeup to decide and even if he is, it’s his call. In my book, Gerry is handsome in any way, shape or form.

#76, why in the world would you mention Mickey had “work” done, that has nothing to do with whether or not Gerry has (Mickey had to have “Work done because of the awful motorcycle accident he had several years ago, it caught his head on fire,as well as his bike, he had severe burns on his face and neck, it was a necessity for him) If Gerry has had any “work” done it would be just because he wanted to. besides I don’t believe he has had any “work’ done, anybodie’s wrinkles can look more prominent from one day to the next, I know mine do. somedays they are hardly there while other days they are really deep looking

The botox crap is ridiculous. He was photographed out and about at events all evening the night before the GGs and looked just fine and just like the usual hot scruffy Gerry. At the Globes he looked different because he had shaved and had on makeup for the TV show. That’s it. We’ve all seen Gerry’s looks change from photo to photo and movie to movie. He’s known as being a chameleon in that way. I don’t think any celebrity would have anything major done a few hours before making a TV appearance before millions in case it went wrong.

My apologies Tracy..I did not realize that he was in a bad accident..Maybe I should of compared afew people who had elective plastic surgery. Alot of men choose that now and this feat of growing old. I guess vanity gets in the way not only in Hollywood but in soceity. Sad really…we should be proud of our laugh lines and wrinkles..It shows our character and that we have lived…

you're kidding right @ 01/13/2009 at 9:58 pm

Tracy - honey you’re in denial….and not the river in Egypt.

Gerry has had a lot of botox. A LOT! Wrinkles do not look better day after day.

I didn’t know that about Mickey Rourke either. I never read anything about this.

yes wrinkles do look better each day, botox don’t think so, good lighting photography and makeup get a look at those photos from Philly and Miami that’s how a real man should look.
Come on Gerard make some more kick **** movies you need to be evil

This is indeed ridiculous. Look at the Elysium pictures, he didn’t have any make up on there and yet no deep lines. He was already botoxed there.
I think a lot of fans are already so used to the botoxed look that they mistake this as his natural look if only he is scruffy and casually dressed. Look at his older movies, even then he had deep lines and wrinkles, much more than now. So you think they just disappeared by some miracle? Wow, if he actually found an effective way of getting rid of his lines without botox he could make a fortune out of that discovery, LOL.

Easy to do the research work on this issue and figure it out for yourself.
The GB sites have galleries with pix easily accessed by event or date.
Since the maximum effect is most visible soon after treatment, and wears off starting at 3 to 4 months - you can look at pictures in those time frames and watch his more natural and handsome face reappear. Candids and razzi shots are best here - as Hollywood events and photo shoots can and do touchup.
I’m still a huge fan and supporter of Gerard. I just think he wold like to know that his fans do not expect more of him in the looks department and he’s totally AOK chemical free.

Yeah, I wish he would have smiled more or something, but does it really matter? My boyfriend can do no wrong, he always looks good.

I think it’s kind of sad that when you look at the comments here that a lot of people seem to prefer his botoxed look, because he does look younger without deep lines, sure. We all do. But then you shouldn’t act surprised or even disgusted that this is what Hollywood demands of actors and actresses. It works, people gush about how great and young he looks. And the same goes for any other actor/actress. If the acting suffers because they can’t move a muscle in their face anymore, hey, who cares… It’s more important to look young for a one minute TV presentation where the camera only catches you from afar anyway than to be able to use facial expressions in your next movie. That’s the way it is these days. With everyone in Hollywood. It’s just that he is not the anti Hollywood exception anymore. He’s playing the game just like everyone else who wants to have a career there.

He looks very sadly and unfortunately - I think so. His bright eyes are missing.

#87 I DO see some thoughtful support here for the anti-botox opinion.

#89: Yes, but if you read the posts closely most are anti-botox because they believe he isn’t botoxed.

Look at the PSYLY premier. He looks fantastic with his wrinkles…imo. He abused the sun (as we all probably had at one time).
Plus he was a drinker and smoker. The two worse culprits for aging, and he just quit smoking last year. His younger look is not because he’s taking vitamins!

Botox or not botox… I could see clearly, in the GG videos, all the muscles of his face moving as he talked… his mouth made all the usual movements that I love so much, (Elvis Presley’s way).
Oh, my God… I saw him in person, talked to him, was kissed by him… he’s really kind, gorgeous and unforgettable. Hope Hollywood doesn’t
change him…
Good work, JJ…

Crikey. What compels me to comment when I have no new wisdom to add to this incredibly diverse and far-ranging dialogue, which fascinates me. First, we have all been advised candidly that actors as well as actresses wear make-up at these events. They are onstage and/or on the red carpet. So this is a given.

As to the original question, shaven hot or not? Does it matter? Personally I like unshaven, not just on this particular man. Hell, men have facial hair. Why should they shave their faces every day unless they want to? Beards look good. Even scruffy beards look good. Clean shaven looks good too. It’s a man’s choice. In any case, actors often tend to look like the role they are currently filming, don’t they? Or they vary as different scenes come up to be shot.

What else here? Yes, I noticed that GB seemed subdued in his presentation, maybe uncomfortable, and I was a bit surprised, but I was personally pleased that he evidently stuck to the script and did his small presentation seriously, without clowning around or calling atttention to himself. His was a minor part in this show Recognizing your role in a specific event without having to try to grab the spotlight can be a step toward maturity. I have read that he has blurted out unflattering remarks about people like A . Jolie, and MAYBE he has alienated some Hollywood power people, but I don’t know that.

love all the comments, wish I was young again, he looks good anyway. The smiling eyes have been missing in most of the latest pics, wish he would put that back.

He needs to start making babies with Jasmine, or even Bianca, if she would take him back. Gerry and Bianca looked beautiful together. They would have lovely kids. That would bring a smile to his face.

Gerry still loves Bianca…always will.

Chellie did he tell you this? I don’t think so.

i think he looks sad and handsome….i’m sure most people in hollywood have had botox but i don’t think he has….just makeup & lighting.

If he loved Bianca he shouldn’t have cheated on her. And how come anyone can claim to know whom he loves or even will love? If he talked about that to friends who had nothing better to do than to tell a fan he should urgently find some new and more trustworthy friends.

Now that I look at the pictures again compared with other recent ones I would agree that GB seems to have had some kind of “work” done. He doesn’t even look quite the way he used to when he was younger. I’m no expert on this, but know that when people have plastic surgery or other kinds of “work” friends often say they just look “different.” It seems “work” doesn’t necessarily recreate exactly the face you had before the lines and wrinkles set in. I recall being shocked when I saw pictures of GB after not seeing any for awhile, because he seemed to have aged so much so quickly after transplanting to Hollywood. Among other things, he looked damned unhappy. I figured, maybe that’s what Hollywood does to you. But as I got used to his older look, I decided I quite liked it IF he looked –and was–HAPPY. After all, a few wrinkles and grey hairs made him seem closer to MY age :) and therefore MORE attractive, not less. But we all know the young demographic , 18 to 35 or whatever, is where the selling is even though baby boomers–45 to early 60s– are a huge population. Did Paul Newman and Robert Redford ever have “work” done? I don’t know. Hey, I’m not against people doing whatever they want to do to look better and increase their self-esteem. I had “work” done. As a kid I had ears that stuck out like little elephant ears. In my 20s I had them flattened. It made a huge difference to my self-confidence. They are still not the prettiest ears in the world but at least I can wear my hair back or up and not feel embarassed by stickout ears. I totally support that kind of help. I can understand movie stars feeling the need to do whatever it takes to look their best. It’s their JOB. But the cult of youth in this country, reflected in Hollywood, is pretty extreme.
By the way, I have noticed for a long time how fast our Presidents seem to age in office, recently read an article noting that phenomenon. There are pictures around of how Barack Obama will look after a presumed eight years in office. Stress takes its toll.
Consider this, forgive and support.
