Nicole Kidman takes her beautiful daughter Sunday Rose, 6 months, to the doctor’s office for a check-up on Friday afternoon (January 9) in Nashville, Tenn.
The 41-year-old Aussie actress recently said that she she “squirmed” in her seat throughout the Sydney premiere of her latest movie, Australia because she was so uncomfortable watching herself on screen.
She said, “I can’t look at this movie and be proud of what I’ve done. I sat there, and I looked at Keith and went, ‘Am I any good in this movie?’ But I thought Brandon Walters and Hugh Jackman were wonderful. It’s just impossible for me to connect to it emotionally at all… I don’t usually see my films, but because of [director Baz Luhrmann] I had to see it. I saw Moulin Rouge. I’ve really only seen that and this in my whole career. It gets worse as I get older.”

I don’t understand why the baby is NEVER dressed appropriately for the weather. Nicole always has a winter coat on, the baby has a light sweatshirt on and her poor little legs are hanging out. Even smart guys like Larry Mark and Bill Condon, who are producing this year’s Oscar ceremony, are going to have one heck of a time solving the show’s core problem: Movie stars, in any public forum, are increasingly terrified of being as interesting as at least some of them really are. Candor kills. Even an old bull like Clint Eastwood knows it. He could probably tell you more about the rough and tumble of Hollywood than anyone in the business. But put him in front of the camera on Oscar night, and he suddenly turns dull.
To understand why even the brightest stars have learned, in the Web-crazed world, to hit the dimmer, you need only take a look at what happened to Nicole Kidman in the last few weeks. Actually, go to Google, and enter the search terms Nicole and Kidman and Squirm. You’ll get more than 28,000 hits, many of them telling how Ms. Kidman “squirmed” when she saw her own performance in “Australia,” wasn’t proud of her work and fled Australia after seeing the movie. One great example of the species is here:
I’m not out to defend (or criticize) Ms. Kidman’s performance: I haven’t even seen “Australia,” as much as I’d like to get a look at all the season’s movies. But it’s hard not to be shocked at how her comments have been wrenched out of context when you listen to her original interview, with a couple of down-under radio hosts.
As it turns out, the hosts, Kyle and Jackie, were gushing about the glories of the movie. Ms. Kidman, meanwhile, was making some interesting points about the way actors experience their own work. Only twice, she said, had she ever watched her own work in public — “Australia” and “Moulin Rouge” — both times out of respect for the director, Baz Luhrmann. Sure, she said, looking at herself up on the screen made her squirm. But, she added, “I was amazed, actually,” at the movie. No, she wasn’t proud, because, when it comes to her own work, said Ms. Kidman, “I have no objectivity at all.” She went on to quote Stanley Kubrick, who once explained that the only time an actor can experience a role with untainted emotion is on first reading the script.
It was fairly sophisticated stuff. But she got burned badly, as Web sites and news outlets around the world plucked a few spicy comments. No need to weep for the stars, of course. But don’t be surprised when they clam up tight on Oscar night. For most, it’s much better to be safe than sorry.
Wouldn’t it great if the real quote she gave or the real thing is what is in the press and relentlessly reported instead of what someone embellished and claimed she said? Her interview is online, I have listened to it and boy, talk about having your words re-written.
Sunday is growing and very cute and her mummy looks wonderful, beautiful without makeup.
Americans didn’t love Australia but the rest of the world can’t seem to get enough of it, it crossed $100m in foreign markets this past week. Congrats, Nicole.
Botox does NOT change any one’s face.
It is only used to lessen the horizontal creases across the forehead. It is NOT injected in other areas of the face.
Very few also put a dab on the corner of the eyes, the crows-feet, it cuts the amount of crows-feet in half, but does not make them all go away. It does not in any way make the area unmovable or change the face, it simply takes off a few years of lines.
It seems many blogger believe what they read and have no idea what Botox is or how or where it is used.
An urban myth, no pun intended, has been created. As a Botox user, for years, I can tell you, my forehead is smoother, but I still raise my brows, can create lines and ripples and have many lines at the corner of my eyes when I smile. I wish it did work better.

Nicole looks different because she has aged 21 years since Dead Calm. All of our faces change from 21 to 41 The absurdity is that people compare her photos from 20 years ago.
All of us have thinner faces, our fat pockets sink lower, our necks become saggy, our eyes droop, our noses look thinner (unless we gain over 20 lbs as we age).
The simple truth is a lifetime of dedicated sunscreen use does prevent wrinkles and diminish lines and freckles. Ever see a Dermatogists face BEFORE Botox was ionvented and lasers. They all looked fab, bc they ALL used sunscreen religiously.
The truth is Nicole has a saggy neck nad will need a neck lift in a bout 5 years becasue she is aging. All actors have this simple operation. Get over it. If your livlihood was your face, you would too.
It was 57 on Friday and the kid has a windbreaker on, seems like an appropriate coat to me.
That’s the same personal assistant Kidman has had for years.

I just read the last stupid remark. It is not a blazer, it looks like a wool coat. Also, if you look back at every picture the baby is not dressed properly and at one point Nicole is putting the baby INSIDE OF HER COAT. Simple common sense tells you that a baby should be dressed at least as warmly as her mother.

If it was 57 F in Nashville, the baby should have had a jacket and her legs covered, or had a blanket wrapped around her. This isn’t the first time that NK has been out of doors in the cool weather, wearing a jacket herself, but with Sunday under dressed.
If the Kidman fans want to justify that, go ahead. But all it does is prove that you are unable to look at this objectively and recognize that the child is not dressed properly. God forbid anyone stick up for the helpless baby if it doesn’t reflect well on NK.

It was fairly warm in Nashville Friday, the baby didn’t need a winter coat. She has on a hat, so her legs are exposed, so what? She was fine. (I was walking around barefoot that day). She looks very healthy. I love babies with chubby cheeks and chubby legs.

Well Patti I think you are way overreacting. If the baby were in danger of freezing to death, I tihnk even we, Nicole’s ardent fans, would comment on it. The baby looks happy, doesn’t look in distress, isn’t hiding her little face, isn’t doing anything to indicate she is cold. Babies tend to run hot and Sunday is a little chunk right now–very very healthy and happy looking. And if you notice Nicole is carrying a blanket just in case.

I’m not anti - NK. I actually think she’s a good actress. But I am not going to justify her taking the baby out in cool weather without a blanket. She did that at least twice in Europe, so she already established the tendancy to do that.

Why can’t this woman carry her baby like a normal person? She doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body! So these pics were taken on Friday, but we don’t them until Sunday. Tired of nutcases (#56) - Nicole is almost always dressed more warmly than others. Back in May-June of last year when she was pregnant, she was pictured many times in Nashville wearing layers of clothing including denim jacket when everyone else there was sweating in 90+ degree weather.
So I’m not surprised at all why Sunday Rose is wearing less than her mommy. She is appropriately dressed for the weather in Nashville; it’s Nicole who is overdressed in too many layers.

Very few actresses walk the red carpet at that many premieres and over the holiday season with an infant!

I’ve always enjoyed any movie with Nicole, she is a great actress. This is her third child so obviously she knows how to dress a child and care for them. I do wonder though how Tom Cruise got the majority of custody of their 2 kids. Why do they not live with their Mum? I was so disappointed reading that Nicole Kidman said such things about her acting in Australia (by the way AUSTRALIA WAS A FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT FILM). She was very good in that and had no reason to speak like this about her work. I absolutely believe that an actor, or director should always defend their work no matter what. Specially Kidman, who was calling Australia her ‘dream movie’, the ‘best thing I’ve ever done’, ‘I am connected to this film so much that I have never been before with any of my movies’. I read such things and so many more hundreds of times in magazines, newspapers, websites, I watched her talking this way about the film on podcasts, interviews etc. She even connected the ‘miracle’ of her daughter’s birth with ‘Austalia’ and now she goes: “It’s just impossible for me to connect to it emotionally at all.” For me she betrayed her effords first as the leading actress of the movie, her director, whom ironically she claims she abores, her co-stars and everyone involved in the project and gave their soul for it. Was she so affected by the critics? Was she so affected that HUGH JACKMAN came out completely unscathed and most of time praised by critics instead of her? But wait a minute. Not ALL reviews were bad!!? I would say that opinions were divided. In metacritic the film’s score was 53 out of 100, in rottentomatoes 52 and according to forums about Australia most people loved it. Plus, it’s crossed 150$ million so far. But even if all these weren’t true, she should still defend Australia, she should defend her work and not defame it. WE are the ones who will judge her acting, I mean the audience, and she should know that a big part of us liked Australia as a whole, and that “whole” definetely included her. The olny thing she achieved with her statements was to become a derision and of course to give the final shot to her career. Pity…
WOW!!! I can’t believe how cruel people can be . I think the baby and nicole are dressed accordingly ,and I think Nicole Is holding her baby FINE!!! ALSO… KEITH IS A CELEB, AND IS MARRIED TO NICOLE. #97 - I really don’t get what you’re trying to say. If you mean that what I wrote is not true, well you are wrong. As a fan of Hugh Jackman and Baz Luhrmann I can say with confidence that I know pretty much everything about Australia and all its backstage story and its stars’ comments on it . I’ve read almost all Australia reviews, good and bad, and people’s comments on imdb, EW, etc. I deal with cinema and I’m not so fool to concentrate on jj posts to get an opinion about a movie. Wow, you tell people to get a life on here, but look at what you do. You search the internet finding any way possible to defend these two, who are two people you will never meet and will never know. But for some strange reason, you honestly believe she is perfect just because you believe everything that comes out of her mouth. Re Keith and Nicole’s publicity problems - Charisma is a double sided sword. Urban oozes it. Beauty is the same and to most people with 20/20 eyesight, Nicole is a beauty. Not everyone’s taste, but why get so insulting about it. So you have here two people who are subject to constant envy and criticism by numerous groups - Keith’s fans, scientology, jealous actresses and newspaper people who are smarting from interviews not given. I feel so sorry that the life she had envisioned in Nashville is falling apart. To paraphrase the Bard: “Kill all the journalists and paps” - (lawyers be darned).

I’m just a regular visitor here in jj and just expressed my opinion on the site’s specific post and what NK said about her role in her latest movie. I already knew her statements, I read them on Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper and just wanted to say a few words about that and ONLY that. My comment didn’t refer to any other comment posted here in the first place. Don’t see what’s the problem & I do know I’m not wrong -at least about the FACTS I mentioned, not about my opinion on Kidman’s career- but anyway I’m done with all this.
Agree with ms (#95) and daniel (#94). I wonder what Jackman or even worse Luhrmann might think about her now that she goes out and talks that way about a film that really needs some good publicity, not its stars to come out and say: “Oh, I suck in Australia”. Luhrmann already defended soulfully his movie and Jackman always has a good word for it. Their opinion about Kidman’s statements would be a really interesting thing to read.
Australia is a great movie, but it would have been better without her. It was too annoying to see her emotionless face.
If you’ve read some of the early posts, (specifically Post #14 called Quote – IN CONTEXT), there’s a link to what Nicole REALLY said and how some “journalists” took her words out of context to make it look as though she was dissing the movie and her performance in it. Why don’t you take a look?
People like to distort things to make news and cause controversy, and Nicole is an easy target who doesn’t fight back. She keeps a low profile unless she’s doing promotions for her work. Why draw erroneous conclusions from second-hand reports when the original is there to listen to and read?

Guys, I don’t know if you know that, but Nicole usually does not watch her own movies. I mean, she’s clearly a shy person and the only reason she has watched Moulin Rouge and Australia was Baz Luhrmann, very close friend of her. So, I think before saying it was rude what she said maybe you could get some information and, then, show your opinion.

Anyone that really loves KEITH and is a true fan of his (like myself) would not make ignorant remarks about Nicole. He loves her dearly, therefore to bash her is to bash Keith. Stop it folks. Get a life beyond the one you have that consists of trashing other people to make yourself seem like you are important. You know who you are.
Some of the mom’s commenting on this issue know how tough it is to keep a squirming 4 month old wrapped in a blankie. You wrap the little darlings and they’re kicking, squirming and unwrapped in seconds, or so it seems. Having worked for many years in the field of pediatrics, it’s actually not has healthy as you’d think to keep children too bundled up.
One more soapbox point, and I’ll stifle myself. Good on Nicole for keeping up with pediatric well check ups and [an assumption] immunizations!

Nicole’s comments were taken out of context and twisted around. She just feels uncomfortable seeing herself on the big screen. I saw an interview recently with Heath Ledger where he said the same thing, except he said he wants to throw up when he sees himself on the big screen!
