OlderSacha Baron Cohen Insults Madonna At Golden Globes
Sacha Baron Cohen made a number of jokes at Sunday’s Golden Globes. The 36-year-old British comedian started off by poking fun at Botox-faced celebrities.
He said, “It’s been a wonderful year for movies, including, of course, Benjamin Button, the story of a man whose face gets younger as he gets older. Uh, which is just like most of the people in this room.” (The camera pans to Button’s star Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.)
After the crowd burst into laughter, he continued, “It is said that in times of economic hardship, people flock to the cinemas to watch mindless puerile, escapist nonsense, which is great news because I’ve got a movie coming out (see below).”
Sacha then proceeded to take jabs at a few celebs: “But this recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities. Victoria Beckham hasn’t eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it. It’s true. And even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. (pauses) Our thoughts go out to you Guy Ritchie.” (Sandra Bullock shakes her head.)
Ouch!!! Sacha then presented the “Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy” Golden Globe to Vicky Cristina Barcelona. In his upcoming movie, Sacha will play his alter ego Bruno, a flamboyantly gay fashion reporter from Austria.

I think both Madonna and Guy Ritchie will have found this funny if they have a sense of humour. When you play your life out in public you are open to being commented on and this was hardly an insulting joke- the only person it could possibly insult is Ritchie and I’d like to think he has the humour to get the joke.

It’s insensitive to joke about Madonna’s divorce, but my take on the jokes was more of an emasculating jab at Guy. But I think it could go either way. It was funny. The audience didn’t boo, but they “ooooohed” because it felt harsh and they knew any one of them could be ridiculed in the next heartbeat, too, ha.
He’s hilarious. I’m so glad there are a few people who don’t have their heads up Hollywood’s ass.

My dears, Madonna has insulted herself incessantly with her shows, her statements, her divorces, etc., etc. She is beyond insult and is best used as the butt of hilarious jokes like his.

The Golden Globes are in fact a mega “mutual admiration society” propelled by the greed wealth power of a few.The British\Jewish contribution the evenings (entertainment) was was more of a reality check than an insult ,and a display of his education and skill as an clever wordsmith.I enjoyed watching Sacha destroy the vanity that power and wealth bring ,.and (to their credit )the cringing fools covered in the Bling that the big bucks had brought them in their careers,They had to cover their expensive faces when the reality check went down.America is in a world of hurt ,.please let’s not shut our eyes, keep the faith and pray for peace
It’s a dig at both of them. At her for treating her husband like her personal assistant and at him for allowing himself to be treated like an employee. It was effing funny. I think Madonna can handle it - she’s a big girl. Plus, I think she and SBC are friends. I hear he helped her perfect her fake British accent.

One of the things to love about Baron-Cohen is that he takes on powerful politicians & “A-list” Hollywood celebs. Would his act really be funny if he just mocked semi-retarded anonymous rubes on the street? Jay Leno does that, too.
Celebs are insignificant. So I’m glad Sacha doesn’t waste a lot of time on them. But sheesh, learn how to take a joke, guys. They applaud his work in Borat. Now, when he turns on them, suddenly he goes too far? Pfft…
