Daniel Craig Has Two Hands in His Pockets
James Bond actor Daniel Craig fits his hands in his snug pockets as he smiles for cameras at the photocall for his movie Defiance in Rome, Italy on Sunday.
Director Edward Zwick also stopped by for the photo opp.
The 40-year-old English actor was recently voted the most convincing action man of 2008 according to Hello magazine, beating out Shia LaBeouf, Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr., James McAvoy, Brendan Fraser, Ben Barnes, Mark Wahlberg, Will Smith and Harrison Ford.

Before I tear into this, I think it’s safe to say that it was never going to be easy to pull off this Jenny Packham Fall 2008 gown.
Jenny Packham is very much the go-to designer for sparkling, embellished red carpet gowns, and this n u d e ensemble with a black lace overlay, and a feather trim peplum at the waist, is very much a departure from what she usually presents.
“Satsuki Mitchell wore this gown, when she attended yet another Defiance premiere, this time in Germany, with boyfriend Daniel Craig.
The ensemble is a cross between something that would have been worn on the Little House on the Prairie, or as I am sure regular commentator Leo would say - something an Amish bride would wear.

I get so tired of hearing everyone say that danny is needy.
There are a lot of different aspects or levels to being needy.
People say that Kate Moss dumped him because he was too needy.
But that was nevery explained.
Maybe he is very needy with affection.
Maybe he is very needy with sex!
Maybe he is very needy emotionally.
But since he has done a lot of red carpets before Sats ever came into the picture, I highly doubt that he is needy for someone to walk with him!!!!
I can easily see him being sexually needy.
I can also see him being needy with affection because he is a sensitive man, and sensitive people usually like a lot of affection.
But being needy with either sex or affection DOES NOT man a person insecure. They simply have a large appetite for sex or affection.
I have a brother who is extremely needy with affection. He is always touching, holding hands or hugging people, not just his wife, but friends and family. I’m his sister, we are in our fifties, and he will still hold my hand!! But he is also extremely confident, not an insecure bone in his body.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that danny is NOT INSECURE in any form or fashion. HE DOES NOT need Sats to be walking him down the red carpet or rubbing his back for reassurance.
I do believe that Sats does this to give the impression that he may be insecure, that he needs her. I do not know if danny though realizes that this constant rub backing that she does is giving people the image that he is an insecure man that can’t do anything without her.
I have absolute NO DOUBT that she is a very manipulative, controlling woman. She does exactly what message all of her actions send out.
She KNOWS that by rubbing his back she is sending a clear message to the world that “he needs me, he is insecure, I am his security blanket.”
I have NO DOUBT that he does not realize that this is the message that she is sending out.
She only started rubbing his back sometime last year, and I believe that due to all the fights that they have been seen having, that the paps have caught them looking so miserable with each other, and because she knew that people were talking about a possible break up, she started brainstorming as to how she could let everyone know that she was a fixture in his life because he needs her, and I believe she came up with this very manipulative move of constantly rubbing his back.
I also believe that this is why she is now always smiling, because she doesn’t want anymore break rumors to start. Also, since she is being credited as a co-producer on a movie, and I have no doubt that danny gave the money for the project, that is another reason she is smiling.
Yes I completely agree, she is soaking this man.
But I also believe that a break up is imminent, and I am not a psychic. But the reality is, no man who looks as miserable as he does is going to continue being in a relationship that makes him so miserable for long. He will most definitely reach the end of his rope and leave her.
I have said it many times, and I will say it again he will NEVER marry this woman, and I know now, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that he will leave her. You don’t have to be a pyschic to see it coming. With each passing couple of months, he looks more and more miserable.
He is most definiely going to leave her either by the end of the year or sometime next year.

I agree, definitely taking its toll as others have noticed this as well.
She wants the limelight now, and to be the celebrity, and he MAY feel that if that is what she wants to do, and she helped him out this whole time (or whatever she has done for him, personal assistant, travel agent, reservatins, maid, etc etc. etc.) then maybe he feels obligated to let her run away with this “spotlight on her/papparazzi game” thing…at least while they are on the road.
I do believe that once he gets back to London, back home, he is going to want to just rest and be left alone.

He Refreshed and Revived the James Bond franchise and he did that with his own skills and talent.

And i must say, although there were not as many public/day to day photos of him before this Press/Pap Onslught, I liked it a lot better.

So, in light of all of this, I just called my friend Camilla Morton, author of How To Walk In High Heels, and A Year in High Heels, and general high-end fashion muse (as opposed to my being a high street fashion muse) to ask her for her tips on how to walk the red carpet. After she pulled herself to gether having almost knocked herself out with her mobile phone - getting a call form me has that effect on people - she gave me hear pearls of wisdom. Just in case any of you out there are practising-red-carpet-attendees:
1. Every celeb knows they have to arrive as close to the red carpet as possible! To navigate your way through a sea of bemused pedesterians holding Macdonald’s wrappers kind of flattens the wow element of surprise.
2. Always wear flesh coloured underwear - flashlights expose everything.
3. If attending with someone give them the ticket, coat, handbag, and excess paraphernalia to hold.
4. If you spot someone in the same outfit as you upstage the offender with a more glamourous pose.
5. Link arms with someone more famous than you are …(or worse case scenario, if she is the big star and wearing the same dress as you, link arms with designer of said dress and act as the muse…)
6. Always, always have mints or tictacs in your bag … to kiss anyone with bad breath is sooo not fashion
7. Always go heel first onto the red carpet because if you trip, that photo will haunt you for rest of your days…
(I think 5 applies to Satsuki)
All this promotion and the film is still doing badly. Do you think he is losing he star power? If so I wonder how Babs must feel. Maybe Satsuki will be the next Bond girl.
As they say in tinsle town. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD PUBLICITY. In Sarah Larsan’s case there is not publicity so she has faded into the wood work but Satsuki has major publicity so she is getting known by many. It may get her in the door but then she will have to prove herself and she just might. Daniel has always said she is very smart and for those who think she is manipulative, she may be that but in the end she will get her way as long as she delivers and that could mean anything.

Once he leaves her, we will never see her again.
Once he is finished playing Bond, he will rarely be seen anymore, and unless he does a comeback act, will fade into the background.

Defiance may not be setting the world on fire but the reviews are scorching the majority of the time and Daniel does give one of his best performances, if not the best yet.
The release date did not help the film when it came to awards and it was caught up with three other holocaust movies.
The rumor is now he is teaming up with Jennifer Aniston for a romantic comedy, “She’s All That”. Believe it when I hear it!
I hope Satsuki is not the co producer on this one! I have a very shaky feeling that Daniel might be talked into doing something like this.
The actual reviews are mediocre (as opposed to the paid reviews on the tv commercials) and his accent is awful (downright laughable) on the trailers.

the reviews are not mediocre, they are split and that’s a great difference. It’s kind of love it or hate it. And even the bad review mostly blame Zwick’s storytelling and almost ALL reviews say that the acting of Craig, Schreiber and Bell is great.
I personally like the movie very much, because it shows the “bad” side of the Bielski partisans, too, e.g in an early scene where Tuvia takes revenge and executes a Polish police officer who has killed his parents.
Romantic Comedy is not his thing……he is a great actor but not sure about that.
Just finished reading a review about DC being horribly miscast in the role with his blonde hair and blue eyes. All I can say is my 10 year old laughs every time his “Vee vill protekt you!” appears on tv. It’s called over-acting. Lots of promotion for a poor box office showing.

when it comes to romantic comedy i think it all depends on the script and who’s directing it. from what i’ve heard people a good comedy is hard to write. it may be really something that he wants to do at this time. he could be bored with all the serious parts.

I think Daniel is too serious an actor and his options are wide open to start doing the silly jennifer Aniston/kate Hudson romantic comedy stories, where he is just the romantic lead and that’s it…….
he needs to pick his roles VERY carefully from now on, or else he may have no choice but to take romantic comedies if that is all that is offered to him.
i think that once an actor, a classically trained actor like Daniel, starts doing Romantic Comedies, then it is all downhill from there.
Like sounding the “Death Knell” for actors, most especially with actors who have been entrenched in serious roles.
Many people in the industry wwere laughing at Pierce Brosnan for doing “Momma Mia”, but maybe at that time in his life, he was ready for it.
i personally think he needed the money and a good paycheck……
i think there is a certain “industry” perception on a male actor who goes from heavy, serious roles to romantic comedies- not good perception or bad, I am just saying people may start to see Daniel differently, not really into serious, heavy roles anymore…
His classical training may not be taken into view as much after doing romantic comedy roles…
And then after that…the only roles offered to him are romantic comedies….
i don’t think That Daniel wants to be seen as a romantic comedy lead right now…. it may be too hard to turn the industry perception around.

And if by chance, if he DID do a Rom/Com this year, he would have to travel around and promote it, and it may conflict with his next Bond 23 duties…
Daniel said in one of his tv interviews that he gave last week for Defiance, i think he said it on Regis and Kelly, that he would want to do Broadway theatre or he would be willing to …
Maybe this spring or summer he would do a short broadway play before Bond 23 heats up again…..

what bond 23 duties? from what i’ve read there doesn’t seem to be another bond film in the works. i’ve heard that it may not even start filming until 2011. that’s 2 years away. more than enough time for daniel craig to do what ever project /projects he wants and promote them without conflict with bond 23.
what’s happened with economy has really put the “breaks” on some very seious projects here in LA. some of the projects may end up not even being made. case in point; there’s some question as to whether steven spielberg will have the money he needs to make the kind of film he wants on abe lincoln. the people putting down serious money just aren’t willing to do it so quickly anymore.
That’s not true, he said in several interviews that they would get together in about six months and start putting down ideas for Bond 23. They’re not going to wait two years to start working on the next Bond. That would be like a possible knife to the Bond franchise. They have the money to start working on it whenever they want. They have made tons of money from CR and QOS. Waiting two years would be taking a huge risk of people forgetting DC and loosing interest in the franchise. No, they will definitely start filming either late this year or early next year, as soon as they get the story down, which is what they have to work on first, and DC will be part of that process.
I doubt very much he will do any theatre until his Bond contract is over.
As far as comedy, there have been many serious actors, DeNiro, Chaz Palamenteri, to name a couple who have done very silly comedies, and have gone back to serious drama with no problem.
I would love to see DC do a comedy, he would be adorable in it. But not with Jennifer Aniston, I like her, but I think with a different actress, maybe like Eva Mendez or Selma Hayek, maybe even a Bond spoof comedy would probably be hilarious.
I think if he does a comedy he should carefully choose which one it is.
But most importantly, make sure Sats doesn’t have anything to do with the movie, because it seems that whatever she touches, fails. And I’m beginning to think her bad karma is making DC fail also.

just asked someone here in los angeles in a postion to know more than i do about what’s going on. what daniel says is true; ideas are being discussed for bond 23. the writers apparently have been hired to begin work on bond 23 with a release date scheduled for 2011 that is two years away. notice the person i asked says scheduled release date. but we all know what that means. it can be pushed back at any time. MGM hoped the film would be out in 2010 but circumstances won’t allow that. as for filming for bond starting late this year my friend hopes you haven’t bet any serious money on that.
as for the bond franchise having all kinds of money; you have to understand the fear factor here in la when it comes to money now. projects that were given the green light a year ago would have trouble gettting the same go ahead today. it’s all about the return. and let’s face it casino royale and QOS were expensive films to make. yes they made money and the studio got a profit then. but what worries people with money now is whether they could still get a profit from an expensive bond film made in this economy. trust me when i say this; people here are worried because they think it’s going to get much worse.

I just did an extensive search online regarding McQueen and Biopic. I found several articles from this month, including the one from Variety that the biopic IS GOING TO BE MADE. I also found several articles regarding McQueen’s widow wanting DC to portray her husband. I found NOTHING where he ever said he WOULD NEVER portray McQueen in a biopic.
I also found several articles entitled OSCARS CALLING FOR DANIEL CRAIG if he portrays McQueen in a biopic.
I completely agree, this would be his chance for an Oscar. BUT, he will need to get a very, very good accent coach, because his American accent isn’t much better than the accent in Defiance. And on top of it McQueen is from the midwest, and they have a WHOLE different accent than the west coast folks or east coast folks, and he will need to get that down perfectly. Midwesterners say for 100 “a hundred,” people from New York say “one hundred.” That kind of thing, and they have a tendency to run their words together. So he’ll definitely need an excellent accent coach.
I have absolutely no doubt that DC WILL ACCEPT THIS PART.

I’m just using this quote as an example of a few comments. How many people here have actually seen the film?
I’ve seen it twice, and it is a good film, which raises a lot of questions about topical issues, not just about the past. Of course, it has flaws, but one has to see it to really judge it. It’s a shame that a few bad critics put people off a film that has a lot of depth, unlike a lot of other films that are out there. Defiance has in fact, received some very positive critiques, so the opinion hasn’t been all out bad.
At first viewing, I thought Liev Schreiber’s acting was far superior than Daniel Craig’s, but after seeing it again, I think they both deliver real quality acting. As I said before, there are flaws, and I think Daniel Craig could have elaborated on the darker side of his character slightly more and toned down some of the ‘heroic speeches’, but his performance is still very good.
I think one of Defiance’s fault is with its promotion. It’s not been advertised enough - say in comparison to Operation Valkyrie, which is in your face everywhere. Also, if it is only shown in a limited amount of cinemas, maybe it wasn’t designed to be a blockbuster?
In my view, people really should go out and see it. It’s worthwhile.
And to come back to the abovementinoed quote, at the end of the film, they show a picture of Tuvia. You’d be surprised how light his hair and complexion looks in the photograph.

I want to add that in our town we have a columnist that reviews movies, and in the past eight years, I cannot remember him ever being wrong about a movie. When he says a movie sucks, it really does suck. I have seen a lot of movies thinking we would disagree and he has always been right. He saw Defiance and said it sucked big time, that DC over-acted, the accents were horrendous, and the story was weak, and didn’t even come close to showing the atrocities that Tuvia committed. He also said QOS sucked, and I read several other reviews that said it sucked and I still have not watched QOS and probably won’t bother until I can rent it for a buck or something.

I don’t think Hollywood made a hero out of Tuvia Bielski. The film shows a few very brutal murders committed by the Bielskis and his partisans, but put them into the context of the situation they found themselves in. I felt it was very much up to the viewer to decide if this was right or wrong. It’s this moral ambiguity that makes the film so interesting to me. There were many scenes where I asked myself what I would have done, and sometimes, I could not find the answer…

Allegedly, members of the Bielski bridgade were involved, but the investigation in Poland is still ongoing, and no conclusion has been reached. The question is, were the Bielskis in the area at the time, or not, and if yes, were they involved. Historians and witnesses are split on the issue.
This is not mentioned in the film, but that’s the reason why many people don’t want to see Defiance.
The problem with film reviews is, you really never know for sure, unless you go yourself. I often went to see highly recommended films and came out highly disappointed. Film viewing is so individual that you can’t often tell. And critics never agree, do they? Same as people… Quantum of Solaces proves that point - I read a lot of reviews and posts on message boards, and people were fighting over that film like cats and dogs. Some thought it was excellent, others hated it with a passion, and both camps nearly killed each other getting their points across. Reading a lot of those posts, you never thought they were talking about the same film… So I’d say, if you want to know what a film is like, go and see it yourself.
ok i’m sorry to say that i had not heard of any massacre of 128 people in naliboki. i misunderstood what number 118 was saying. the first time i ever heard about tuvia and his brothers is by watching the film. i never knew these people existed. so why didn’t they make mention of what happened in that villagein the film? they showed the killing of the policeman and others. by the way, i still think the film could have been better. and maybe ed zwick should not have directed it.

I hadn’t heard about the Bielski brothers either before the film was made. And then when the film reviews appeared, some mentioned the massacre, and criticised the fact that the film didn’t mention it. I was wondering if either the scriptwriters hadn’t done their research properly and didn’t know about it before the film came out, or, because as yet it hasn’t been proven that the Bielskis or members of their group were involved in the massacre, they decided to leave it out. After all, innocent until proven guilty…
I also felt the film could have been better, and I liked it a lot. I think it was very good. But there was something missing, and I am still trying to work out what it was. After all,the film showed that the Bielskis were no saints - in fact, nobody in the film was - that they could be brutal and ruthless when it was necessary, that Tuvia was both compassionate and authoritarian, that Zus went out to fight and got disillusioned with the Russian partisans, it asked what is more important, revenge or saving lives - or can you have both - there were so many questions and shades of grey…still, something was missing.

Yes, with me it’s a kind of feeling as well. I suspect Spielberg would have made the film more dramatic, and might even have pushed the heroic side of the characters more to the forefront, which I might not have liked…
I’ve been thinking…maybe it’s the balance between drama and understatement that Zwick and his scriptwriters didn’t quite get right. Some of Tuvia’s speeches just sounded cliched and nearly too Hollywood-ish for such a person, and other scenes were too toned down - I nearly expected more drama. I don’t know, but when I saw the film for the second time, I had a feeling that I only then grasped some of the emotional intensity which Daniel Craig portrayed in his character. I mean, that’s what he’s so good at - DC can show a whole range of emotion and inner conflict with his eyes or his posture, but sometimes he’s so (British) understated, that unless a film brings it out, a viewer might miss what he is trying to tell us.
I liked the how the camera jumped between the wedding scene and the attack on a German patrol - it showed the contrast between the paths that the two brothers Tuvia and Zus had chosen. One focused on keeping the spirit in the forest camp going - making a life for the people, the other one on fighting evil. It looked slightly surreal that the people in the forest could still celebrate in those awful times, but then that’s what people do - and maybe when you know that your life might be cut short tomorrow, you want to live more intensely in the time that you have…

Yes, I’d also loved to have seen more of the community. And Aron seemed to disappear during the film; at the beginning, we saw more of him, and then he only appeared as the look-out occassionally.
Who I also really found interesting was the character of Bella, Zus’ ‘forest wife’. She wasn’t your typical weak female, but it still shocked me when she was involved in the killing of the German soldier in the camp. I’d have really loved to have found out more about her history. I think the killing of the German guy (you could be right about the SS - he wasn’t wearing a soldier’s unform) was one of the scenes that was really well done. I found it so shocking because of the way it developed, and ordinary people suddenly lost it and went for the kill, Bella included. And Tuvia realised that he couldn’t have stopped them - I think he was going to, but then left them to it.
‘Forest wife’ was the term they apparantly really used. From what I gathered in the film, the men who chose a ‘forest wife’ still had wives in the villages, or maybe they didn’t know if they were still alive. So, I think the movie goers must have found that pretty exploitative and not fair on the women. We don’t know if some of the women who had a ‘forest husband’ were also married to somebody else though. Also, we don’t know if this term was also used if both people were single, because they could have got married then. Again, if you are in such an extreme situation, you might have just made the best out of the situation…and people still fell in love…

The simple fact is that it came out pretty much the same time as Valkyre, and that was a bad idea. When two Holocost inspired movies come at the same time, only one of them is going to do well. Valkyre looks much more interesting and is not based on a possible war criminal.
Defiance may have done better if it didn’t have Valkyre to compete with. But it did, and that is why I knew that it would flop, along with Jinxy Sats being involved with helping him.
teenagers and college kids will continue to turn out for the box office on weekends, that’s why those type of films always top out, but adults are going to be more selective concerning the theater, but less so where dvd rentals/purchases are concerned. It doesn’t diminish your point that the movie isn’t going over as well as expected. I just think more people will see it over time once it is released on dvd.

In October 2008 she was travelling with Daniel for the QUantum of Solace premiere.
Since she cannot physically be in two places at once, I don’t think she was on set at all during the filming of this movie with Kiera.
It was posted in a prior thread that Sat gave finance money/provided some of the financing for this film.
In exchange, I believe she gets a “co-producer” credit.
I highly doubt she was on set, in person, at all during the filming of this movie.

actaully, it is done quite often, providing finances for the film and in exhange getting some sort of credit for the film.
And it may not be necessary for that person to be there at all durning the filming…I can’t say for all films, but it depends on the specific circumstances.
And since she knew the writer/director from the Jacket, which she was a production assistant on, he probably worked something out with her, to get her a production credit in exchange for her “creative fundraising” ?…..
both parties benefit, ….she gets to “beef” up her resume and the film gets the needed cash infusion.

I am not so sure that he has a need to be stuck to her. I think it is the other way around. She has shown herself to be VERY insecure and extremely needy (see the St. Barts Show pics for reference) and I feel she has really pushed and shoved her way into his life.

I think it is very odd that she sticks to him like glue! I have seen other celebs who intermittently work without their signigicant other right at their side. I think there is some insecurity in this relationship. He is a handsome famous celebrity and she is an unattractive woman who does nothing but spend his money. Based on these facts I would say she is the one who is needy for attention!
I have seen a few pics where Satuki holds his phone when he on set and stuff .No doubt she is into everything he does.

I have the funniest feeling that Daniel has changed his email passwords SO MANY TIMES to keep her from snooping into his emails and snooping into his privacy.

I just have the feeling that she has tried to SNOOP and maybe successfully broke into his emails a few times, and he has had to change his passwords and codes around, gotten new, more secure cell phones, and beefed up security on his cellphones to ensure his privacy.

yes, excellent point. he has already let her in, and she is his live-in girlfirend…so she has probably demanded to be let in on ALL his emails and his private relationships with other friends of his- male and FEMALE.
And she CANNOT stop his friendships with other females, although i am sure that is the source of so many fights.
I can hear her say: “IF you have nothing to hide, and you are trustworthy, then let me read all of your emails and be the judge of that. If you don’t want let me into your private emails, then you are hiding something from me and you are lying to me.”

I’m not the monkey blogger and I completely and utterly believe the psychic. She always makes so much sense, and I have absolutely no doubt that she is right and that he is interested in someone else, that may even be why they fight. Satswhatthehellisit probably senses his distance and ambiguous attitude toward her and she is probably one of these women who is always demanding to know what’s wrong, nagging to know what he’s thinking about, that kind of crap.
I too can’t wait until we see this new woman.
