Chanel Iman Covers Page Six Magazine

Chanel Iman Covers Page Six Magazine

Meet Chanel Iman. She’s the protégée of Tyra Banks and favorite of designers John Galliano and Alexander McQueen and she’s determined to shake things up with her vibrant personality, cheeky tattoos and modern attitude toward race.

Here’s what the 19-year-old fashion model, who was named after legendary designer Coco Chanel and Somali supermodel Iman, had to say in this week’s issue of Page Six Magazine:

On rumors she has been involved with Kanye West, rapper Tyga, and singer-producer Ryan Leslie: “I’m young and I’m dating. But I’m not gonna say any names. There are special people in my life but nothing serious. Just having a man in general is a job! I have one job; I can’t have a second. I’m the type of girl that if I have a man, I want to be a good girl-friend and be there for them and take care of them.”

On her close relationship with Tyra Banks: “She keeps it real. She tells it like it is. She’s really been a great mentor for me.”

Page Six Magazine is free inside the Sunday edition of the New York Post and online on Monday. More quotes and bigger cover pic inside, check it out!

Chanel Iman - “Page Six Magazine” Interview

On the rigors of working New York Fashion Week: “Honestly, I try to forget Fashion Week once it’s over. I just want to go home and rest and just forget I even did it. It could drive you crazy! It’s just show after show after show, and you’re missing your family and they feel really far away. You don’t go to sleep. You work for a month. You spend all this time trying on clothes… what drives me the most crazy is people touching me all the time. That does get weird.”

On how she ended up naming her Maltese “Louis Dior”: “I really loved working with [Dior designer] John Galliano—he’s so amazing. He actually let me name my dog Dior. I asked him! Right after I bought my puppy, I flew to Paris and John was the first designer that I saw. So I was like, ‘Hey, I don’t have a name for my puppy, so is it OK, John, if I name him Dior?’ He said, ‘It would be my honor.’ So I took a picture of me and my dog and sent it to him. He loved it.”

On her frustrations at the difficulties that models of color face in the industry: “It’s not just black girls. It’s ethnic girls in general: Brazilian girls, Hispanic. You really don’t see a lot of Asians either. A lot of designers think that if every girl on the runway looks exactly alike, then people will come to the shows and buy the clothes because they won’t be focusing on the models….It’s not even just runway either… us ethnic girls should be getting a lot of the covers too! I would love to be on half of the campaigns these [white] girls are booking, all looking exactly alike. It’s not right. It’s not fair.”

Adrian Lima Is a Pardo and so is Camila Alves and they are mixed with European and African. Half of the population of Brazil is racially mix of European, African and Ameriindian.

Adriana Lima and Camila Alves are Pardo and the Pardo people are a mixture of European, African and Amerindian. There are plenty of racially mix Pardo’s making a good living modeling in Europe even though they are not household names.

I know Chanel personally from going to High School with her, this is not a great pic of her.

She is just another ghetto girl, what makes her attractive is her age , height , weight and loads of smiles. But her eyes are smaller than peas and that nose flat and wide is just not making her look “hypnotic”. I would be happier not seeing that flat face in every magazine.
I have seen better looking faces in NY subway.
And the fact that there are Brazilian models are ethnic and deprived of work in fashion world is also proves she is dumb.

Honestly? @ 11/21/2009 at 3:31 am

the day chanel iman can be declared pretty or anything remotely aesthetically pleasing is the day she has full body plastic surgery, from head to toe.

i saw her on tv for the victorias secret fashion show, there were clips when they were showing the winner (kylie) who got the privilege of walking in the show, and behind the winner i would see Chanel Iman, and she looked like she was dogging the winner!! and thinking “who do you think you are?!” she seemed to come off arrogant from her facial expression..but maybe thats just how her face is all the time :P

i understand that she is still considered young, but girl needs to shut up or at least think before she speaks. for her answer to “on the rigors of working”, she sounded like a 16 year old complaining about working at mcdonalds!!! she is making loads of money doing shows and getting recognized for them and shes complaining about people touching her and having to try on clothes all the time. HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY ON DESIGNER CLOTHING IS MANY MANY MANY GIRLS’ DREAMS! and she does not even sound grateful! she gets to fly to paris and be part of amazing things like fashion week and shes complaining! a model’s job is to try on clothes, travel to fashion capitals of the world..if you miss your family then dont be a model.

i give her props for trying to stick up for ethnic girls, but her saying its not fair is kind of dumb. if she wasnt ethnic she wouldnt even care about this issue..

and i dont think she is pretty at all. i dont get what’s so appealing about her? just because she is ethnic? just because tyra is her mentor? i’ve seen way better looking ethnic girls than her
