Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Book Recommendations
Gwyneth Paltrow asked a couple of her best and most literary-minded girlfriends to share their top picks for books.
“I always like knowing the literary preferences of people,” the 36-year-old actress says. “I think it gives a better understanding of their inner life.”
One of her fave books is “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë. Gwyn shares, “This was the first novel I ever read. Actually, it was read to me by my mother. We started it when I was 10 years old. The novel starts out with a young Jane, about the age I was at the time, so I was drawn in, in such a visceral way. It was the moment I really started to understand, from my little bed in a room with strawberry wallpaper, that there was a scope to the world, a past and future, that would be there for the learning and for the taking. It was a powerful and deep experience, being read those words, that story with all of its heavy imagery and emotion.”
The other two were “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoevsky and “The Sheltering Sky” by Paul Bowles.
Madonna’s favorites include “The Bad Girl” by Mario Vargas Llosa, “Shantaram” by Gregory David Roberts and “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger.

Gwyn also described the Material Mom in her newsletter, saying, “Madonna Ciccone rules the world, is a loyal friend and a terrific mother.”

God, she wants to seem like she’s such a big brain. Did this bit** ever go to college?
I like most of the selections except for Gwyneth’s. It’s not that I dislike the novels, but she’s chosen pretty safe, run-of-the mill classics that most probably read in high school.
She should have said “rules my world” instead, it’s quite obvious.
# 16 - Sad but true, but I think ‘Iron Man’ would have been a hit regardless of Paltrow’s presence. Tons of actresses could have played that role and done it well. Unfortunately, Gwyn doesn’t seem to making the most artistically of the ‘bump’ she got from IM and instead fills her time with ventures like this and trying to rack up more endorsements.
what does it say?
…………………………………………..HANG YOURSELF, folks?

Just mean she can tell if they’re as snobby as she is. You don’t think she ever read any of those old Romance novels with Fabio on the cover do you? Nah!
she isn’t going to give her book recommendations like Oprah, is she?
She is one pretentious, annoying person.
Keep trying to pretend your an intellectual, Gwyneth. You’re just an average girl in a showbiz family, who’s lost her fame and is now grasping for more with this smug web site of forced faux authenticity. If you were really fulfilled, you wouldn’t be so desperate for attention, you’d just live your life, not have to have it up for display. What a boring, pretentious has-been. Get over yourself. (but hey, I liked you in Bounce.)
well its great to see you Gwyneth you look beautiful, I haven’t liked a couple of outfits that you wore lately.. but you still a sweet and wonderful star…
The scary thing is that her recommendations will have far more influence that most more “learned” critics around the globe - but then again is that as bad as one might think? There’s plenty of people that have read Crime and Punishment now apparently…
