Joaquin Phoenix’s Rap Career is Serious, Says Rep
Joaquin Phoenix’s rep Susan Patricola says the actor’s career in rap/hip-hop is not a well-crafted hoax but very real.
“The transition from one career to another is never seamless. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Joaquin came from a musical family, in addition to winning a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Johnny Cash,” Patricola wrote in an e-mail to MTV. “He intends on exploring his musical interests despite speculative, negative or positive reactions.”
EW claims this is all one big prank on the media, with his publicist in on the joke too.

I think he is making a parody of rapper turned singer Kanye West. And it’s quite amusing. He’s probably just trying to take a break from acting and do something fun.

There is no way I believe this is a real, true attempt at being a rapper, no way. It simply has to be a hoax or some joke documentary thing or something. Even if it is a joke, he’s coming off as one mighty douche right now, I’ve completely gone off him now because he seems like an idiot.

I think he’s a tool. Announcing he is not acting anymore? Please. Just do it with actions and see where it takes you.
He’s been shut-out of deserved Oscars far too often on behalf of his acting ability and, hopefully, he will return (providing this doesn’t ruin his career). He should have won an Oscar for Best Actor when Reece Witherspoon won for Best Actress! Personally, I see him singing opera!!!
It took Johnny Depp awhile to be accepted by the mainstream in Hollywood but he moved to France, persisted and has, ultimately, been acknowledged for his talent. Please go back to acting Joaquin…there aren’t enough great actors today on the silver screen!

I am scared for him. It is not normal behavior, hoax or not. Joaquin is showing classic meltdown symptoms, whatever his career plans may or may not be. I fear that he is crossing over into River territory and I very much hope that there are some voices of normality amongst his entourage, who will not sit idly by and watch him decombust. Physical signs point to alcohol more than drugs, and I pray that those who love him get him help. We his fans can only watch and hope for the best., and pray for his return to good health.
