Michael Phelps Apologizes For Smoking Pot
Olympic great Michael Phelps has apologized for smoking marijuana.
In a statement released to The Associated Press, Phelps said, “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”
Yesterday, UK tabloid News of the World published the bong picture of the swimmer, who won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Games.
No word on whether or not Phelps has been released from his multi-million dollar endorsement deals.

For everyone that is saying smoking pot is not a big deal, the government would beg to differ. Smoking marijuana is illegal and punishable by law. Michael Phelps broke the law, and in doing so set a horrible examples for his young fans. Phelps obviously has horrible judgement, and now has to face the consequences for those choices. Do I think he should lose his endorsements? Yes. He broke the law, and more importantly, he ruined his career.
You Americans are too much! I have never seen an American family where not at least one family-member smokes pot on a regular basis. And it does NOT matter what color, original ethnicity, social class. It’s not okay to smoke pot - but it IS okay to get drunk like everybody watching Super Bowl! Guess what? Alcohol destroys lives. Pot? Nope.
Oh, I forgot … people eat and drink themselves fat and sick with sugar-stuff, and that’s okay, when it causes billions of dollars for treatments that other people come up with to finance the treatments or replacements of those who f… themselves up with their eating habits? Or who get a heart-attack from their dump life-style and involve others in accidents. Phelps can smoke what he wants. He is a grand athlete. So he must do something right.

Sorry but excusing his stupidity because he’s 23 and a guy is ridiculous. What an insult to guys and gals who are 23 who don’t drink and do drugs….Self control is something we can all learn..and he can hire someone to keep his idiot self on a leash…there are guys in the army protecting our nation at his age, they are handling more responsibility than him..so he has no excuse…
I don’t mind people smoking pot. Its his life and the guy needs a break anyways. I don’t smoke it but I have friends that do.

He is a huge public figure that many kids look up to, and believe me, if kids are capable of having sex at 8 (and they are) then 8 year olds can (and some do) smoke pot. What if your child is a huge Phelps fan and asks you about what he is doing??? Are you going to defend the swimmer or tell your kids that what he is doing is wrong!!??? Christ, the president admits he smoked pot but he wasn’t dumb enough to get his picture taken doing it!!! What is wrong with you people? Go ahead and defend this idiot, and be very naive at what kids are capable of. Damn fools.

apologize for cheating the tax payers in corporate scams, or for banks stealing from our children’s futures, or war, pollution, fanny-Mae, religious mind-numbing dogma, but NOT for marijuana.

Moral of the story is….He’s a badass that smokes pot. Hey, Tanner Hall got busted as well and yet the ski comun still likes him (even though he’s a douch). NFL Football players, NBA basketball players, Track and Field atletes, etc. SMOKE WEED TOO! I didn’t hear any of them apologize for it, and I believe they are role models for countless kids in America, too. I don’t smoke it, nor do I condone it, but I could care less that someone let us all know that our Olympic champion is HUMAN, too!
In all honesty who cares?! Role model for kids… why is every sports person on cleb put up to be a ‘Kids role model’? I mean, come on… I don’t think he’s going to cure cancer or fix the USA’s economy with his ability to swim fast! Get a better role model folks… I dont know how about Obama?
The one thing I am happy about is that at least it’s not steroids, he may be like everyone else now but at least they cant take his medals away and that has to be a plus considering todays sporting hero’s.

Granted, what celebrities (famous for whatever reason) do on their own time is up to them. But once Phelps accepted millions and millions of dollars in endorcement deals, it became his actual JOB to be a role model. That’s what they’re paying him for.

With everything that is going on in the world, the fact that a 23yr old is caught smoking pot is causing this much uproar is appauling. Why arent people talking about the increasing unemployment in the US? Or on an international level, the fact that Iceland is about to make world history by having the first openly gay Prime Mininister? To be fair, yeah he is just 23 and at that age how many of us can stand and look in the mirror and say, “I was perfect, and never did anything that I wouldnt want plastered all over the internet.” ?
23 is a great age to let loose a bit, he should be able to to act young…he is young
