Michael Phelps Apologizes For Smoking Pot
Olympic great Michael Phelps has apologized for smoking marijuana.
In a statement released to The Associated Press, Phelps said, “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”
Yesterday, UK tabloid News of the World published the bong picture of the swimmer, who won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Games.
No word on whether or not Phelps has been released from his multi-million dollar endorsement deals.

Wow this is blown way out of proportion. Everyone needs to stop being so uptight about this situation. He’s a human being, hes not perfect, people make mistakes, EVERYONE does. i don’t get why everyone thinks celebrities and athletes are perfect and do nothing wrong. give the kid a break please, he has enough on his shoulders, he’s also probably so stressed out. the kid needs a little fun in life.. he made a bad judgement and hes paying for it now. so everyone please just lay off, he already lost a good reputation, and all that other bullshit. if your a true fan of michael phelps you would move on, accept his apology and support him no matter what.

Damo, you think Obama is a better role model than Michael Phelps? Have you read his book “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.” He writes that he used marijuana and cocaine (”maybe a little blow”.) Oddly enough, he writes that he didn’t try heroin because — wait for it — he didn’t like the pusher who was selling it. (Weren’t there any other reasons?)
So tell me how Barack Obama is any better of a role model than Michael Phelps?

Good for him! There is nothing wrong with smoking pot. There are millions of people in the US that smoke on a regular basis and live perfectly normal lives. It is better for you then alcohol and there is no way to have physical withdrawals from it.

This shows that there is no reason weed should not be legalized. Its freakin weed, not heroin. If he can smoke weed and win 8 gold medals in one olympic tournament, I think we should rethink the “harm” of weed.

I dont see them apolagizing for that. Kids look up to musicians more than athletes because your dont need to be in shape to play an instraument or even sing. Parents need to stop thinking about the famous role models and look at themselves as one.

this sucks that his reputation is on the line for something like this. but its cool too have another example of a successful person that smokes. i smoke almost everyday, but im still a 4.0 student. what its all about is keeping priorities straight and knowing how much and when to do it. whats fucked up i that if he was found with a cigarette, people wouldn’t be on his case nearly as much even though you get addicted to cigarettes and it kills you a lot faster. barely anybody is ever addicted to weed, and you actually get something out of it. legalize this ****
