OlderKellogg’s Dumps Michael Phelps
Cereal maker Kellogg’s is the first sponsor to dump Olympic champion Michael Phelps over his bong incident.
A Kellogg’s spokesperson said that the company will not be renewing Phelps’ endorsement deal, which expires at the end of this month.
Kellogg’s statement said, “Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg’s.”
In addition, Phelps was suspended from swimming competitively for three months by USA Swimming.
“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the federation said in a statement. “Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”

Michael shouldn’t have had his ass smoking pot publicly. He should have been in the privacy of his own home. The fool.

Actually I am 42, have two kids and I dont smoke pot, but I see this is about as hypocritical as it gets. He wasnt shooting heroin. Would it have been okay if he was getting drunk at that party? Just because alcohol is legal? I tell you this, I have had 6 friends killed by driving drunk or hit by a drunk driver. I have never had one friend, or actually know of anyone who died from smoking a bit of pot. THATS THEY HYPOCRISY! Drinking ruins more peoples lives than pot ever will. The reason its not legal is because then anyone could grow it and the government could not keep track of it to tax it. It takes a lot more work to make a gallon of whiskey. Thats all its about but by all means keep believing its about some moral issue or that its bad for you. I agree with the person that the FOOD AMERICANS FEED THEIR KIDS is far more harmful. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Michael phelps was caught a few years ago with a DUI. This year, pot smoking. Whats next? gang rape? lol

Even though I think pot is basically harmless, it is still an illegal drug. Phelps knows this, just as he knew the trouble he’d get into if he was caught with it. By losing his contract with Kellog’s, he’s learning that there are consequences to be paid for engaging in illegal activity. Simple as that.
Pot is illegal, stop defending him.

For those claiming pot to be safe, think again. It contains numerous toxic chemical compounds that endanger health. It could be beneficial to some yes, but it is far from harmless. It is also widely considered to be THE gateway drug.

There’s alot of hypocrisy here. If senators and presidents can smoke weed, accidentally shoot people by going duck hunting, and get caught in the bathroom having sex with other male counterparts - then he shouldn’t be punished for smoking alittle weed.

To me, Kellogg did the right thing. Every single person in this planet should be able to do whatever he/she wants. However, Phelps is a public figure. There are many kids who are looking for him. What he did eventhough he admitted that he made a mistake but it doesn’t make everything goes away easy like that. I’m for one who is very disappointed in him. My little cousins were shocked and totally disappointed as well.

I don’t believe marijuana is harmless, it certainly has its effects both long term and short term. But, Kellogg’s cereals are way more harmful than marijuana, and they’re way more addictive (high fructose corn syrups and sugars, genetically modified corn, msg, nutritionless grain, etc). And they market that stuff directly to kids. Talk about real drug pushing.
All Phelps has to do is keep training, keep excelling at what he does. When he succeeds even further, and Kellogg’s begs for him to help shill their nutritionless frankenfood, I hope he makes a public act of snubbing every one of their offers. He could issue a press release explaining that his healthy image shouldn’t be abused to sell truly unhealthy foods to children everywhere.
There are plenty of other big corporations out there who’d be happy to sponsor him, bong and all.
