Kellogg’s Dumps Michael Phelps
Cereal maker Kellogg’s is the first sponsor to dump Olympic champion Michael Phelps over his bong incident.
A Kellogg’s spokesperson said that the company will not be renewing Phelps’ endorsement deal, which expires at the end of this month.
Kellogg’s statement said, “Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg’s.”
In addition, Phelps was suspended from swimming competitively for three months by USA Swimming.
“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the federation said in a statement. “Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”

Oh darn! No more shortbus dude on my corn flakes!!!
BOYCOTT Kellogg at your local supermarket!!!!
Oh come on Kellogg’s! You are missing a great opportunity. The first thing a pot head grabs is the cereal when there is no pizza in the house. Just imagine. Phelps as your spokesperson and cereal just flies off the shelves. There would be a Corn flakes and Frosted flakes shortage and you could raise the prices of the cereal just like the gas companies jacked us with the gas. Missed opportunity Kellogg’s! You have underestimated the sheer number of marijuana users. What a shame.
It’s just a little weed people, RELAX!
it was bad this picture leaked, but come on! it’s not that big of a deal. it might ruin his “clean” image and parents are probably upset, but people are going way to far with this
THAT’S RIGHT!!!!!! BOYCOTT KELLOGG’S AND ANY OTHER COMPANY WHO DECIDES TO DROP THIS AMAZING MAN, WHOM HAS TO HAVE LUNGS LIKE A WHALE TO SWIM THAT FAST. MAYBE THAT WAS HIS SECRET USING THE GANJA TO STRENGTHEN HIS LUNGS. I’LL TELL YOU WHAT, I KNOW PEOPLE WHO MAKE $30,000 A YEAR AND I KNOW PEOPLE WHO MAKE $500,000 A YEAR, AND GUESS WHAT ? THEY ALL SMOKE, AND BELIEVE ME, THE ONE WHO MAKES $500,000 NEEDS IT FOR HE WORKS SO HARD AND WOULD PROBABLY DIE OF A HEART ATTACK FROM STRESS WITHOUT THE HELP OF GOD’S BEAUTIFUL GREEN PLANT.
When was doing drugs EVER a public thing, #25 and #26?
Yeah, #27.
He’s a human being and never asked to guide your kids’ futures, #43. He just likes swimming and is very famous for that but he’s no saint or sinner. He’s just a person that screwed up.
No no for drugs and sport!
DUI in 2004 remember? now pot!!!
Tyler, Leonardo, whatever your name is, just because marijuana is a plant, does not mean it can’t contain toxic, naturally occurring chemicals, and it doesn’t mean it’s safe.
HEY MR. CORNFLAKES ARE BORIN’ ANYWAY, HOW ARE YOU. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT IT ONLY CONTAINS CHEMICALS IF MAN INTERFERS WITH NATURE. I WASN’T QUITE SURE IF YOU KNEW THAT. IF POT HAS CHEMICALS THAN SO DOES VERY OTHER HERB WE EAT!! I THINK THAT MIGHT BE CLEAR AS DAY. THANK YOU.
i dont really care for phelps that much
but i was shocked 2 hear that his other endorsement deals were still sticking with him
i dont think what he did was that bad, but i agree that he at least needs 2 be somewhat punished
3 months aint **** btw…
im noooo saint i really am not but look if you are in the public eye if you are supposed to be up there a role model for little kids then no you shouldn’t be doing drugs in public. The issue isn’t if he should or shouldn’t have been smoking weed. What the issue is about is if he should be penalized for it. when I was kid I was obsessed with kristi yamaguchi I mean big time and if I saw pics of her smoking weed i would think that was a cool thing to do and i am sure kellogs would realize this….so that is what the issue is. kellogs feels that they cannot represent people who are going to promote “crappy stuff”.
I agree with all of you marijuana should be legalized but that has nothng to do with it. It is the message that it sends and kellogs doesnt want to be screwed in the long run. I also do not see the big deal with michael phelps in the first place. Yeah hes a great swimmer but he seems to hang around with people below him. and I am a stickler for if people screw up they get whats coming to them.
Usain Bolt is my favorite current olympian!
umm yeah marijuana is just as bad ast smoking ciggeretes why do you think you caugh up you lungs and what the hell do you think is going in your brain that makes you laugh like a moron at stupid things or what is that calming situation that you get. its all chemicals affecting your brain. i still think it should be legalized but i am just saying. it aint vitimin c.
HEY RETROBANANA, I JUST WANTED TO REPLY TO YOUR MESSAGE. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT THERE ARE CHEMICAL PROPERTIES IN EVERYTHING. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS IN ALL THE ANTI-DEPRESSENT DRUGS THAT MESS WITH YOUR MIND FOR THE LONG RUN- WORSE CHEMICALS THAN GOD’S CHEMICAL.THE PEOPLE I KNOW WHO SMOKE ARE BRILLANT PEOPLE, GOOD PEOPLE, THE BEST PEOPLE. THEY WILL HELP YOU IN A SECOND AND LEND A HAND, SO I GUESS THOSE MUST BE SOME NON- HARMFUL CHEMICALS…. DON’T LET THE GOVERNMENT FOOL YOU DARLIN’.
Marijuanas bad people. What if Phelps had a panic/anxiety attack and developed a disorder it would screw up his future forever. People need to think about this stuff before they use it.
i hope whoever took the picture wasn’t supposed to be a friend, and i don’t think for one minute that damn tony the tiger has never had a bong hit–that’s why he likes frosted flakes so much
It is a serious offense to get your picture taken at a frat party. No other serious 100 million dollar professional gets caught like that. Ask Derek Jeter or Tom Brady. They don’t get caught smoking pot. He is getting paid 100 million a year, he needs to do that in his private time and not be irresponsible. If he wants to do that, he can go without being paid because he is being paid to be spokesman.
people are making such a big deal about this, it was just weed at a friend’s house its not like he was driving high or anything, I think the DUI he got was worse than this
MESHELL-Pot contains a chemical called THC. It is natural. You are wrong about plants only containing chemicals if man fools with the. In fact, lots of bottled medications contain naturally derived chemicals, that have a desired effect. If you need me to, I can list a few. As for antidepressants, why do you think that they “mess with your mind”, are you Tom Cruise? They are helpful to many people, and are a great althernative to suicide or self-destructive behavior. They have pulled many a woman through post-partum depression. So don’t knock ‘em. I have no issue at all with people smoking pot recreationally, and knw lots of people who do. I have to say, though, the ones I know who use it daily are not brilliant, although some of them are intelligent. They tend to think of themselves and their addiction FIRST, although they can also be very kind and giving. They all have their talents, but the daily users, for the most part, like to spend an awful lot of time sitting around doing nothing, and talking about dreams but not DOING them, and they tend to be emotionally a little dead.
YES, SIR MR. CORNFLAKES. I KNOW GOD’S CHEMICAL FOR THE PLANT IS THC, I HAVE STUDIED THE PLANT FOR DECADES. MY WISDOM ON THE SUBJECT IS DASHING. I DON’T BELIVE YOU SHOULD SMOKE ALL DAY EVERYDAY, BUT WHEN YOU NEED TO MAINLY FOR MEDICINAL REASONS. NO ONE HAS EVER DIED OF A OVERDOSE OF THE PLANT, WHICH YOU ALREADY KNOW. BUT I KNOW LOTS WHO HAVE DIED FROM OVERDOSE OF ALCOHOL AND THE MEDICINES IN OUR CABINET. YOU KNOW THEY EAT THE PLANT IN OTHER COUNTRIES AND PUT IT IN STEW FOR THE FLAVOR. BOY, SOME ZOLOFF WOULD TASTE HORRIBLE IN A STEW, DON’T YOU AGREE MR. CORNFLAKES? AND THOSE WHO JUST SIT AROUND AND NOT CHASE THEIR DREAMS, I THINK THAT IS THEIR FAULT, NOT MARIJUANAS FAULT , IF THEY ARE THAT WEAK TO NOT GET UP OFF THE COUCH MAYBE THEY DO NEED SOME OF THE GOVERNMENT MEDICINE, BECAUSE SOMETHING SERIOUS MIGHT BE WRONG WITH THEM. I WILL PRAY FOR THEM.
what a douche bag.
Well put, MESHELL, and I have to agree about the booze. I hear all the time about the car accidents that are booze-related, liver disease, people getting into brawls and beating their kids, but how often do we hear about stoned people doing this stuff? And alcohol is legal…
HEY MR. CORNFLAKES, THANK YOU, SIR FOR APPRECIATING MY THOUGHTS, AS I WILL APPRECIATE YOURS. I BELIEVE WE ARE ALL RIGHT IN OUR SIMPLE, LITTLE WAY.I GUESS IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION DOESN’T IT.
While I agree that smoking the bong is no big deal, I can’t understand why everyone says he’s just a kid who made a mistake. He is not a kid!! He’s an adult who is 23 years old and should have better judgement for a person in his position.
It’s not the first time “the kid” has screwed up…DUI at 19.
I’m sure if this were one of his competitors from another country few people would be so forgiving.
I hope he gets it this time.
