#25 - Wow, what a mature comment! What is it with you obsessed fans whose lives are shattered when someone expresses dislike for one of your favorites?

I’m not a Zac Efron fan (I’m a heterosexual male), but I don’t “hate” him either. As far as I can tell, he is a hard-working actor-singer who shows good maturity in that he knows his limitations as an actor, and doesn’t try to play roles that are not appropriate for him.

I’ve only seen him in ‘Hairspray’ and I thought he was good in that. When he starts to take roles in movies for an adult audience, as opposed to the kids’ stuff he has mostly done up to now, I’ll certainly consider going to see those movies. I could care less what he looks like or who he sleeps with, I only care about what he does on the movie screen.

That’s really great if Zac gets to do SNL. I think he can rock it and will show off more of his talents.

Can’t wait to see Van’s photoshoot. I think it’s sweet that Zac tagged along so they could get some quality time together while she worked.

While I do want more privacy for them, it’s still sweet and heartwarming to see how loved they are around the world and across cultures.

I really don’t think they realize how much impact they’ve had on the lives of people of all ages and of all cultures, much more than a lot of veteran actors and actresses.

It says a lot that they remain so grounded and overwhelmed. Bless them.

I can only imagine what SNL will be like with Zac! I haven’t watched the show for many years, but believe me, I will be tuning into that one!

Trina (#35) - Thanks for your response. While the Disney musicals were clearly aimed at the pre-teen demographic, the two examples you offered (one a affliction-themed television Movie-of-the-Week, the other an independent animal themed story that deals with a troubled teen) both seem to fall into the teen genre (especially as it concerns Zac Efron’s participation). I suspect that you may be in the target demographic for those projects, and that’s perfectly fine. Roles like those are part of an actor starting to develop his craft, and will play a role in helping him take on more complex parts.

I would praise his performance in ‘Hairspray’ more than you seem to, because although he is playing a teen character, the movie’s intended audience was NOT limited to those under 18 (and Hairspray’s excellent financial performance proved that point). Zac Efron integrated very well into the cast, both against the other young actors and with the adults, which is a very good sign. The movie was also a period piece, a type of movie that can confound even far more experienced actors, and he did just fine with that aspect of the movie.

Also, keep in mind that the ‘Seventeen’ movie is produced the brother/sister Shankman team who also did Hairspray. If Zac Efron had performed poorly in Hairspray, it is unlikely that they would have cast Zac in the subsequent film.

Again, I’m not knocking him - just trying to put his career up to now into perspective. I think he was smart to get away from television and to concentrate on features. Hopefully he will continue to work on his craft and grow into more complex parts as he matures.
