Kanye West: Devastated By Rihanna’s Situation
During his morning KIIS FM show, Kanye West spoke to Ryan Seacret about the altercation between Rihanna and Chris Brown. Here’s what the 31-year-old singer had to say:
“I saw them at Clive’s [the night before]. I know Rihanna a bit better because I went on tour with her and we really vibed out on a lot of creative ideas. With the touring, I gave all these reference of Graces Jones and Jean Paul-Goude. Back in the 80’s when pop stars just took it to a whole ‘nother level. I really feel that Rihannais so important to our culture and pop music. I feel like she is the most important artist in music and has the most potential. Her taste level at her age and the songs she does and her style and her performance and her voice.
“She has the potential to be the biggest artist of all time. In that sense, I feel like that’s my baby sis and I would do anything and everything not help her in any situation. I don’t want to speak too much on it but I was completely devastated by the concept of what I heard to the point that I Was completely devastated during my “American Boy” performance [with Estelle during the Grammys].
“It’s so devastating. As a person, I don’t care how famous she is or if she just worked at McDonald’s, that should never happen. It should never come to that place.”

my gay friends tell me this happens in the gay community a lot too and also happens to men (where women beat them up) but they are too embarrassed to admit to it. i hope this sheds light on all kinds of domestic violence. no one has the right to beat anyone like that. our laws need to be tougher too. do you know if a man beats a woman and if the cops show up at the house and the woman does not want to press charges, the guy gets to walk? if your DNA is on that bruised woman and we can prove that you did it then you did it. we have to take domestic violence more seriously. and young girls need to know that it starts with the first hit. and if he did it once, he will do it again. and families and friends need to speak out too.
what do u mean she cant sing

This man has no idea how to speak the english language. That was PAINFUL to read.
i don’t believe rihanna hit him. why are some people saying that???? i think it started out of jealousy on his part. i am a fan of neither but i HATE men who hit women and children. PUT HIS @$$ IN JAIL FOR THE MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWED. look at her, she’s an itty bitty girl. what kind of monster would beat her up?
I’m fully supportive of Kanye’s sentiment here (for ther first time ever I actually agree with him!) except on the part where he said her performances wil make her one of the best ever…sure I like her songs & all on the album when it’s been through the studio cleansing process but live? Yikes!
Still anyway, that’s rather irrelevant to this situation. Violence is never right no matter what is going on between 2 people. You can walk away, chill out, have a deep discussion, ***** & moan at each other, ignore it but the aboslute thing you do not do (regardless of if you’re a woman or a man) is resort to violence of any form. If this went down as the details out so far suggest then I hope Chris Brown is properly punished for it as if he were just another average guy in the world, no special celeb treatment.
I love Kanye! He’s such a cutie.
remember what happened to nicole simpson? it started with beatings that were apparently “her fault for provoking” o.j. simpson. men who beat women are always full of excuses.
Wow, Kanye actually seems sane in this article.
this is the most intelligent thing ive ever heard kanye say. the next time he throws a tantrum ill remember this.
@lopz723.. im guessing you’re hispanic, so what you’re saying is that hispanic women dont get abused. women of all races get abused. people are the same race is irrelevant.. i guess i just have to get used to the fact that some posters are ignorant and stop wasting time explaining things to them.

aww even though it’s all true nobody has the real story even though this happen i still feel they should stay together n Rihanna should tell the TRUTH about wat happen b cuz i cant believe this
He hit Rihanna, a WOMAN, a weaker human being.
Its not a rumour, there are plenty of witness in the street, in the hospital, with the cops.
Chris Brown is a coward and a rat.
The sad thing is that he will never be in jail for this.
Chris you just lost everyone who ever respected you.
Stella..I am very sorry for your loss, but this situation is no better. I am not even a fan of Rihanna’s OR Kanye’s,but I sympathize with her, and for the first time, I actually agree with what Kanye said. It is a devastating issue because no matter what, violence should not be the answer. I don’t care what happened for the fight to escalate, but for Chris Brown to resort to beating a woman is just low and disgusting. No disrespect intended, Stella. What happened to your father is very devastating too..an accident that could’ve prevented is a shame. But what happened here is that Chris Brown intentionally wanted to physically hurt someone else that was weaker than himself and defenseless. That sickens me. I’m not saying Rihanna is weak just because she is a female, but from what I have heard, Brown has had martial arts training. He was deliberately picking on someone else, and there is NO excuse for that. It doesn’t matter that Rihanna only got a couple of bruises…Brown’s actions speak for his motives. She could very well have been hurt a lot more.
This story is alarming on two fronts: First, the altercation was alarming because Rhianna is so young to be victimized by domestic violence. I hope she gets out of the relationship. Second, Kanye’s comments are so out of line. He never fails to maybe incoherent, nonsensical comments. Rhianna is only popular because there is a tween audience who listens to her music and have parents who purchase her music. Outside of that audience, I don’t know anyone who thinks she is a great artist. Her voice is horrible and the music she sings to is forgettable and obnoxious. I am not much for pop with the exception of a few artists such as Gwen Stefani (who has proved with her band No Doubt that she has the ability to create high quality music) and Madonna, but he is delusional to think she is going to withstand the test of time and become one of the world’s biggest artists.
there are ALWAYS two sides to a story she is kinda aggressive but with that said no woman should be the victim of domestic violence no matter the situation.Chris you went from 10 to 3 and 1/2 in my books.POOR POOR CONDUCT
Honestly, I am very much against domestic violence but even I think people need to lay off Chris Brown until the full details are released. I’m not a huge fan of his but I have seen an interview where he talked about his stepdad beating his mom when he grew up, and how he would never treat a woman like that. Everyone makes mistakes and I think its wrong to judge so quickly and paint him as this woman-beating monster. He really seemed like he loves her and if this happened, I would bet it was the first and only time and that he really regrets it.
LAME!
This was the ONLY relevant point: “It’s so devastating. As a person, I don’t care how famous she is or if she just worked at McDonald’s, that should never happen. It should never come to that place.”
He should have left it there. Stupid f.uck.
Dear Kanye,
If you are the influence that you suggest. Please help her to understand the importance of working with the police on this matter. She has the influence to help millions of young women world-wide to wake up and walk away. I cannot only imagine the embarrasment she must be feel. But what others think about her is not about her–it’s about their reflections on their life stories. She can help so much. This may have happened because she has the opportunity to change things and she has the voice and fans to do it with. If she calls this love or supports him, then how can this world ever change? It would be hard to support her or her music– if she stops cooperating. She is already outted and the worst is over for her. Help her to see that perhaps she is the messenger that this planet needs so much. Especially the kids. Ike and Tina mean nothing to them. If she teaches them that abuse is acceptable I have no doubt that more boys like CB will take up the fight to beat a woman.
Her fans may not get the message to her–maybe you Kanye are the messenger in this matter. Do your best. Her life and others may depend on it.
hmmm
i guess he doesnt think chris brown did it either
he never mentioned him
I couldnt have said it any better you took the words right out my mouth!Dont just blame him if you dont know the situation…she seems like the feisty one if you ask me!
Dee, I totally agree with you! you took the words out of my mouth
Whoa. I actually agree with something Kanye says..
*enoughalready took the words right out my mouth*
Like Kanye said, no matter who the person is it shouldn’t have gotten to that point, unless the rumors of her giving him herpes are true. That’s something serious, not as serious as AIDS, but dang near close! I’m not saying that gives Chris the right to hit her, but it’s understandable, because not only did she give him herpes but she cheated on him! If that was the case he could of handle it better because 2 wrongs dont make a right, and eye for and eye will leave everyone blind….If he just can’t handle his anger then he desereve every bad thing coming his way, from losing his endorsements, singing career, respect from his fans and peers in the music industry, and of course Rihanna! In the T.I. interview he said that he was talking to Chris was telling him that people don’t understand that celebrities are just like everyone else that make mistakes. Just like everyone else you should get punished for yours…..As for Kanye saying Rihanna has the potential to be the greatist of all time, that’s a negative. Understand that he’s trying to be nice condsidering what just happend to her, but let’s not lie. I hope this is just a publicity stunt that went wrong! (Not likely, but I wish)
