Kate Winslet Honors The Irish

Kate Winslet speaks during the 2009 “Oscar Wilde: Honoring The Irish In Film” Awards held at The Ebell Club on Thursday (February 19) in Los Angeles, Calif.

“I’m permanently anxious, yes,” she nodded. “Permanently anxious, very nervous and very excited,” Kate said of the anticipation of the Oscars.

“There’s no sort of magic formula,” she told the BBC. “I wish I could tell you I’ve got it down now - that I have a system that involves baths and lavender and whatever.

“But I have no plan, I have no formula. You just go with the flow.”

She’s so beautiful and she keeps it real.

Diana isn’t the only one who thinks she is overrated. I used to like her back in the Heavenly Creatures and Sense and Sensibility days, but then she did Titanic and ever since then, her performances have become less than exciting for me. I don’t know, she just seems to do the same stuff over and over again she’s lost all of the spark for me. And the way her fans drone on and on about “she makes me feel” so that’s why she’s the best actress? Don’t most actors pretty much do that? Anyway, you’d think she was the second coming the way her fans react and insult those who disagree. So, please K.G., we’re not all haters, but we’re not necessarily all lovers either. Accept that there are other opinions about her or her acting. I’m personally wishing that Melissa Leo will win (I know, fat chance) as I was more moved by her performance than either Winslet or Streep. I do honestly feel that Winslet will be winning this year because she’s been nommed so many times without a win, not because she gave the best performance. I’m sorry that that is hard for the fanatics to hear, but it must be said.

Well she likes to do those types of roles because she feels most comfortable doing that. Same with Leonardo DiCaprio. She’s not overrated.

and that’s fine Kay. It’s obvious she feels comfortable with those roles, and I’m happy she’s finding success with it. I just can’t consider her the best actress ever because of this factor. I need a little more than just the emotional aspect to find her in my top 10 of best actresses alive. I certainly don’t “hate” her, I’m just getting tired of hearing the “she deserves an Oscar just because she’s been nommed so many times…” and the “She’s the next Meryl Streep” spiels. I mean, actors shouldn’t be compared like they are. Meryl Streep is Meryl Streep and she has defined her career very distinctly and uniquely. Kate is having a good career and more power to her, but until she starts to branch out more, I will continue to have the same opinion of her acting. These Revolutionary Road roles need to take a backseat imo.

Leo

oops…I posted it before I finished it. I was about to say that I respect Leo’s choices recently but still am unable to buy him in these leading man/romantic roles, it just doesn’t fit.

#30 Janet
Well I do agree with you on Meryl Streep. There’ only one Meryl streep. At least you’re the type of commenter on KW posts that gives an honest opinion if you don’t exactly like her unlike some other ones that just hate on her if she wants to win an Oscar or trash her. I do agree on Melisa Leo. Very gr8 preformance. But the reason i like Kate Winslet i because her body of work. Like K.G. said her movies do not do good at the BO but she likes to do more crafty and arty work instead of more blockbusters. I’d much rather it being a tie for Meryl and Kate to win Best Actress. Ties can occur in the Oscars. And yeah I agree on Leo. I’m more of a fan of him than Kate but he still kind of has a boyish face so it’s hard for him to look the part of a real man but I believe he has grown into one. Shame he was snubbed at the Oscars.
From Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries, Titanic, Catch Me if you Can, The Aviator, The Departed, Blood Diamond and now Revolutionary Road. he’s a favorite of mine.

As for Winslet’ preformance in The Reader, I found her great because as her character grew older, Winslet made it believeable and even though her character Hanna is downright wrong Kate still makes me feel smypathy for her. Haters call her ugly, trashy, and even the most overrated actress of all time but time but this is just what I feel.

Charming as always! ^__^

Kate on screen is stunning, beautiful, passionate and has fire and grit. Her acting is phenomenal. In person she seems, whitty, down to earth, funny and sincere. My best wishes to Kate for all she does and how hard she has worked and hope she win’s that OSCAR! I believe she will!! :D

I love Kate, she is amazing!

SHE IS SOOOO PERFECT !!!!!!!!!!!!

I HOPE SHE ‘LL WIN THE OSCAR :)))
