Check out this exclusive shot of High School Musical stars (and real-life couple) Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens singing and dancing their hearts out on stage at LA’s Kodak Theater while rehearsing for one of the biggest musical numbers of tonight’s 2009 Oscars.
There are a number of other singers and dancers that pop on stage during their performance including one gorgeous dream girl and some blingin’ dancing queens. Let’s just say musical worlds collide!

I am happy to see these two young adults coming into their own. They were the stars of a successful film and will draw in the viewers the Oscars has been desperately lacking the past few years. It is time for old Hollywood to start handing off the reigns to the younger generation.
As for the Oscars being invaded by Disney, I would like to remind you that Disney is one of the MAJOR studios and has a knack for developing movies that make money. Many of Hollywood’s elite came from humble beginnings - Anne Hathaway was a Disney princess first, George Clooney was the goofy hunk on Facts of Life way back when, Tom Hanks was a cross dresser on Bussom Buddies, Meg Ryan and Julianne Moore were both once regulars on the soap opera As The World Turns, and Brad Pitt once acted along side cartoon cartoon characters in Cool World. Don’t count out Zac and Vanessa because the HSM franchise made them household names. They have both worked hard to get where they are and from the list of people I mentioned (and I could go on for days with it) we will likely see them nominated for their own Oscars one day.
And I thought you, Jared, were better than that (always kissing teeny boppers a**). just sayin’
You people are such drama queens! Get a grip! The Academy Awards are about 4 hours on average (too freakin’ long if you ask me). Zac and Vanessa’s performance is probably no longer than 10 minutes and they won’t be the only ones on stage. That’s hardly enough time for them to do some serious damage to the show.
The worst that could happen is that they forget their words or dance steps, or both. And even if that happens, the Oscars won’t come to a crashing halt, and the world won’t end, I promise! Personally, I’m just happy to see them shedding those Disney images. Here’s hoping they have a really sexy dance number ready for us!

I don’t think HSM is the best movie for you to judge zac’s acting. Go watch “Miracle Run”, “Hairspray” and wait for “Me and Orson Welles”..then you can say something. Even though I like HSM, it’s not a good movie…I don’t really know the problem, but Zac wasn’t acting well in it…and in MR and Hairspay he was really good! He is going to be a big actor..but people have to give him a chance!

Well, it worked. I wasn’t going to watch the Oscars until I heard that Zanessa was performing and that they were doing away with the old stuffy format. Not I’ve got my DVR set for it.
I have to admit that I am a little nervous for them. I’m confident that Vanessa will be awesome given all her experience performing live in front of big audiences but this is the first time I can think of where Zac will be signing and dancing live. I really hope that they do a fantastic job so that all the people who have not seen any of the HSM trilogy will get a glimpse of the magnetism of these two young actors. Maybe all the mean-spirited people on this thread will even reevaluate their opinions. But heaven help us if this number isn’t top-notch - the venom will be unrelenting.

I have to laugh at all you haters/idiots. I mean seriously, go find something better to do than to hate on two such genuine, talented and amazing young people. You must have something lacking in your lives if you can’t give these two a chance. I don’t care if you hated HSM, thats irrelvent, it’s not and will not be their only movie, however, they are so unique, talented and they are just good kids, who live their lives and they are being recognised for their talent and ability to bring in an audience, something which the producers of the show obviously thought no one else could do.
Newsflash people, they are performing tonight, they are invited, get over it. The Oscars are boring and stuffy, and they have brought in new and talented actors to bring it to life, Z,V Amanda, Dom and Beyonce will all be amazing tonight. ZV have what it takes, they are huge talents and they are going to rock tonight. I am so proud of them both. Their chemisty is the best i’ve ever seen, in HSM3 they just stole the movie, it was incredible to see, and I can only imagine tonight will be a million times better than that seeing as it’s live and they are being themselves. They truly are outstanding individuals.
On a side note, I have to say how much I love how many comments these two get. It doesn’t matter whether they are good or bad, it all counts. They make people react, and that’s what counts. So haters, comment all you like, it’s only doing ZV good in the end. Go right ahead, hate your little pathetic hearts out and we will laugh at you the whole time……..

For someone who said Zac doesn’t seems to love Vanessa that much, I can truly say this guy is crazy for her. I know him, my boyfriend is his friend, and everytime we call to him hangin out with us, even when things like lunch or something he calls to Vanessa. Once we were at home and asked him to pass by and he said he couldn’t go because he was waiting for Vanessa to call or something. Honestly, stop saying bad things about these two, they are crazy for each other and are not letting anything/anyone come in their way.

Thanks for staying relevant. Entertainment is entertainment no matter who is performing. Evidently there are some who want to see this and personally I believe it’s more applicable for the poster to pull her head out of your azz instead of you pulling your head out of Zac and Vanessa’s. I happened on your site a long long time ago and enjoyed many intelligent (and a few not so intelligent) discussions. Because of this site I was inspired to change careers and walk the walk. You are still one of my favorite obsessions. We certainly disagree about a few things and there are some issues that I would’ve handled differently if I were you, but have never believed in throwing stones because I too live in a glass house. Anyone saying Z&V don’t deserve to be at the Oscars should just stop and think about the fact that um…they were INVITED to go…? It’s not like they are just going to try and look like grownup A-list actors, they were invited to participate. Anyone else here would do the same, obviously.
They aren’t nominated people, they’re just performing. The fact is: they were in a musical. One that was released in theaters and did well at the box office. If you were a dancer invited to perform on stage, I’m sure you’d take it. That’s just what they did. Its a musical collaboration.

Well.. I know that I’m going to be watching. They are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see their contribution to the performance. I wonder if all the naysayers and detractors have even bothered to see HSM3. Even if it’s not your cup of tea…check it out before ripping this couple apart. They have an amazing chemistry together and it’s not something you see very often in film. It’s what attracted me to HSM and honestly, it’s not a film that I would be remotely interested in were it not for Zac and Vanessa. The waltz scene is amazing and it’s adorable to watch her backlead him…she made that sequence look so easy and it’s not. Vanessa is talented as she is beautiful and doesn’t get half the credit that she deserves. And Zac…he seems to have it all…talent, charm , charisma, vulnerability and intelligence. Judging from the comments from his peers, this kid seems to have a heart of gold. I hope he and Vanessa can continue to stay grounded. So if you don’t like them, skip the show instead of endlessly bashing them. They are two kids just realizing and living their dreams….

They just want to say something mean about these two young people because they know it ticks the fans off. It’s as simple as that. These two were in a movie that made over $250,000,000. Like them or not or think they are good actors or not, they are just that—actors— and made a major studio a lot of money. This is what they do for a living which makes them professionals. Get over it.
