Emma Watson Gets Accepted Into Yale?

Emma Watson Gets Accepted Into Yale?

Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson goes shopping on Bond Street with some gal pals in London on Friday (February 27).

The 18-year-old British actress, who has been filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was later seen speeding off in her eco-friendly Toyota Prius.

Emma reportedly blogged that she got accepted into Yale, the prestigious Ivy League school located in New Haven, Conn. No word on whether or not Emma will attend, defer or decline Yale.

UPDATE: Emma does not have a Twitter account and is deciding between attending university in the UK or US and “hasn’t accepted any placements at this time.”

Congratulations to her!

# 2

good for her, she’s a smart girl, she’s not just one of them young hollywood stars who think just b/c they made it big that education is not important or that it’s not necessary

# 3

They have enough “DISTURBANCE” already.
They simply can’t use another one, folks!!

# 4

I thought she was going to Trinity College, Cambridge. Jody Foster went to Yale and survived, I gather, so it is not that difficult. Still I’d hate to be a famous movie star in a college environment. Difficult to know genuine friends from suck ups, etc.

You think Yale isn’t difficult?

Good Lord. Do you live under a rock???

# 6

i know she’s a really smart girl and i applaud her for taking her schooling so seriously, however, lets be honest….if her name wasn’t emma watson, she would not be accepted into yale as a freshman. getting accepted into yale at 18 is like winning the lottery….i know tons of people with grades through the roof and tons of extra curricular activities and the most impressive of applications possible who can not get accepted there. it’s just very competitive….i like emma and all though so nothing against her, but i just dont think she would of been accepted if her name wasn’t attached to her application

# 7

wow! :) haha.. she can be in the same school with Rory and Dan Humprey. haha :) go Yale!

Nickyandthecity @ 02/27/2009 at 10:45 pm

of course she got accepted into yale university - she has all the money in the world behind her! it’s a real shame that she got accepted. who knows if she’s really that smart? i’m sure that if paris hilton, too, applied she would be accepted in a heartbeat.

# 9
Cutiemcfreckles @ 02/27/2009 at 10:55 pm

that’s really a suprise given her celebrity status??? you think she got accepted because she’s smarter than anyone else?? she’s had everything handed to her on a silver platter since she started harry potter.

Thats Life Shannon. Thinks come easy when your a celebrity, the least of which being getting acceppted into Ivy League schools. To bad for the normal folks like us, who have to go above and beyond to compete.

ihavenolife @ 02/27/2009 at 11:02 pm

she’s looking really good here. hope she stays out of trouble while in the US.

Exactly Jake. It must be nice….also…of course it goes w/o mentioning i think, but with affirmative action that also lowers the chances that she would be accepted into yale w/o her name. I disagree completely w/AA personally because I don’t believe it’s a fair system, but know that it’s a huge factor that plays into who can get accepted into colleges.

I’m not trying to question Emma’s intelligence, but I do agree with the other posters in that she got in solely based on who she is, and not on what she has done (in terms of academics and extra-curriculars). I know that’s life, and it’s been happening for years, but I can still be pissed off, right? In all fairness though, she could have gotten in based on academics, or whatever, but I hope she’s aware that being a celebrity would have very likely given her an unfair advantage.

Jealous much? I doubt anyone of these whining posters has grades that even come close to hers. She got accepted, no need to discredit her abilities. I think that’s being very unkind.

It makes me sad that wile me and other students bust our asses everyday, sacrifice so much time, that we might have a what? 2% to get into yale? I’ve had striaght A’s since end of elementry school, all the way til now… I will not get into Yale, likely.

At the end of the day, She got into Yale one way another..
so congratulations to her.
but Yale has lowered their standards by accepting HER.

And big surprise, these same posters will of course claim to be geniuses, all with 4.0 GPAs, and probably claim to have invented the cure for AIDS/cancer or served tirelessly for the peace corp…. yada yada yada.

Congratulations Emma! I’m so excited for you! I hope you do attend there. I wish I were as smart, gorgeous, and talented as you to be able to get into an Ivy League!!!

Just because she’s an actress doesn’t mean she isn’t brilliant academically.

she’s a smart girl, but I doubt she got accepted based only on her intelligence. She probably got in because she is Emma Watson. There are so many people out there who are smart, very high grades, and a pages of extra-curricular activities, and yet they still are not accepted

I don’t care how she got in but I wish her the best. At least she’s interested in going to college and that’s more that I can say for most of the young celebrities.

Why this girl ALWAYS has that expression of “i’m better than you”when she is on the street??my godness….i think that the rumors of her being a ***** on the set are true, she is the princess of her daddy anyway.I can’t wait for HBP and i love HP actors so much but she seems full of herself and her status is the main reason of this new.

It has been noted before that she lives up to her character as Hermione Granger in terms of academics. The only unfair advantage if you must find one is that she had a personal tutor during the filming of the movies. And the British education is not the same as that in America, you can’t just excel in your own school, your grades are based on the national standard. That means you are competing with everyone else in Britain.

These posters here are ridiculous. Emma Watson has been known for her intelligence since she was a child. She has been in nothing but private schools since she was a toddler. She has never been prone to Bs and Cs. She always has been a straight A student.

Her parents are very well educated. Both of her parents are lawyers.

In June 2006, Emma took GCSE examinations in 10 subjects, achieving eight A and two A grades. She received A grades in her 2008 A level examinations in English Literature, Geography and Art, and in her 2007 AS (advanced subsidiary) level in History of Art.

Yale?!!??!! Well I hope for her best that she would decline it… Out of all the options she has, Brown University is definetly the best… I picked Yale over Brown and now I regret it

Halo @ 02/27/2009 at 11:43 pm
They don’t understand the British education system. They think that getting straight A’s in some of these high schools here is a huge achievement. I know a few Valedictorians here who went to college only to find they are just average compared to everyone else.

#24-it takes more than good grades to get into yale…you have to have one heck of an application to get accepted into yale and that includes more than A’s. Emma Watson isn’t the only person to have straight A’s….there are thousands of other students who achieve straight A’s and ace their exams as well yet they do not get accepted. Nobody here is saying she isn’t smart…..we know she is, but reality is that unless you are a mini genuis you won’t be accepted into Yale at 18 w/o the most impressive application and there are hundreds out there with applications way more impressive than hers. simple as that and thats all we were saying

@ me

How do you know what her application looked like? Not everyone who attended Yale was a “genius”. Angela Basset, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Beal, Paul Newman, David Alan Grier, Jordana Brewster, Henry Winkler, and MANY more have attended Yale University. Are these people geniuses? These people like Emma, had great grades and lovely extra curricular activities.

Some people are lucky. Some people are not. Though, there is no need to diss Emma Watson because you “think” she got in because of her name.

#24 you are a freak,i’m a huge hp fan but i don’t know the personal life of the actors so much…get a life, nerd!!

Emma doesn’t have a blog, and on her main site (which is run by a friend of hers) there is nothing about this news….where is it that you guys got this news??

#28-that’s everyone’s point….those people you listed are celebrities…of course they aren’t genuises. when i said you have to be a genuis or get accepted…i was referring those regular non-celebs who apply. and again….when did i ever diss emma? i said she’s very smart. i just am expressing my own opinion if thats okay which is simply that i don’t believe she would of been accepted as an 18 year old freshman to yale w/o her celeb status. she is very smart…however so are a lot of other people and the competition is very, very tough to get into a school like that. but wherever she goes, i’m sure she’ll do well and do wish her the best.

Tell that riff-raff to stay on her side of the pond.

Ugly brits

@ me

Meryl Streep and the others I’ve mentioned weren’t celebrities when they applied so you don’t really have a point.

JJ, did you get this from a fake twitter: http://twitter.com/mwtsnx?

Is this your source: http://twitter.com/mwtsnx because that’s fake.

congrats emma!
she really deserves it :)
i hope she can have the greatest time there and learn a lot ;)

How do you know she got in SOLELY because of her fame, #14?

And I’m sure she’s not naive or just plain stupid enough to think that her celebrity didn’t have a hand in helping her get in.

You got all that from an expression on her face, #22?

congrats she and danrad
rock

i want to see these doubters get grades like hers while under the hectic regimen of filming five harry potter movies. isn’t being one of the main characters of these blockbusters impressive enough as extra-curricular activities?

Lol Shannon is right, this new isn’t on her site and she hasn’t a blog.SHAME Jared, this new is FAKE.

Good for her just like james Franco going to univrsity is a smart choice it’s nice seeing celebs furthuring there paths although some may say they dont need it I disagree

Trust me, a girl as classy and smart as Emma is not coming to our stinkin’ U.S. to further her studies…my guess is that she’ll stay in Europe, and wisely so. Stay in your comfort-zone Emma, don’t ruin your life by coming here to live and go to college! We are a mess…you are a treasure. Go to Cambridge!!!!!

bbwwomen2009 @ 02/28/2009 at 1:23 am

i don’t see how this is relevant here, nor appropriate.

a) This information actually isn’t on her site, so while I assume she will be accepted to Yale, I don’t think it is official anywhere

b) To the people who think she wouldn’t have gotten in if she wasn’t famous: First of all, she received all As and A*s on the major schooling exams in Britain, which would qualify her grades-wise. Second, of course her being an actress helped- the Ivy Leagues look for people with interesting backgrounds.

Her name really helped.it’s completely obvious.Tony Blair’s son bgot accepted into Yale as well.On a full scholarship, although he wasn’t that good(2:1 which is something like 60-70% or good).PR value.Emma is a smart girl but you can’t deny the publicity stunt here

Stop the hating!
Emma has straight A’s in her A Levels and 8 A’s in her O Levels I believe. And trust me,O and A Levels are HARD. Not like American high school. She is a smart girl who has been attending school while not shooting Harry Potter. You have no idea what her application looked like or what kind of work she put in and cannot simply attribute it to MONEY or CELEBRITY STATUS.

She gave SATs and was relying on their score to get in to American universities. Anyway the news is fake but I think she’ll be able to get in if she get a good score.

GET A LIFE .
DO U KNOW HER ?
HAVE U MET HER ?
HOW DO U KNOW SHE’S NOT SMART .

UGH , U GUYS CAN SUCK IT .

ASK URSELF .
IF U HAVE HER FACE , HER BRAIN , HER TALENT AND HER MONEY , WOULD U GO TO SCHOOL . U WOULDNT EVEN CARE , DUMBASS .

The same thing happened when I applied to university back in 2001. I applied to St Andrews uni in Scotland as my first choice but Prince William went that year and my conditional offer was ridiculous something like 3 As on top of what I already had. I had to take my second choice cos I got A and 2 Bs. I really wanted to go there as well but because of Prince William I had no chance. Especially with all the rich Americans and private school people applying. Sometimes it’s not fair but money does seem to buy everything these days!

she is only book smart.of course we don’t meet her but we hear and see her interviews.she is not very smart talk.but cong.
you see daniel’ new girlfriend? she is ıyyk

Congratulations Emma,

Natalie Portman went to Harvard and bc of all the rumors they actually published her work, it is available on the internet and all the skeptics had to shut up.

so emma will just have to publish her work to show you that she deserved to be there.

As many posters before me have said, there are thousands of people with better grades than Emma Watson - even taking into account her mere 3A’s at A’level. 50% of my school alone has 4A’s at A’levels, but do all 600 of those people with 4A’s and wonderful extracurricular records get into Yale? NO. Probably 3 out of that 600 people will.

I’m not saying Emma Watson isn’t intelligent, but comparing her grades and extracurriculars to these brilliant people I know who have achieved international recognition in their science research and medals in International Physics Olympiads but still do NOT get into Yale, then you do see that Yale is a tough tight and Emma Watson probably wouldn’t be there except for her name. She’s a celebrity - of course she’s gonna get in.

Wow! The girl is cute and is smart, now isn’t that special? Good for her, I hope she accepts to go, she could always come back to acting when she graduates just like Jodie Foster did.

looks to me that emma indeed got in bc of her celebrity status in addition to her real qualifications, but emma is the type of celebrity who does not just shop all the time, she aspires to be an educated person and an activist like Natalie Portman, and look what Natalie did with her education, she is more of an activist than just a graduate, so if emma gives Yale a voice coupled with her celebrity to promote good causes, isn;t more important than just to give someone a diploma for a good job?

Dorothea, just because we are commenting that Emma Watson would have lower chances of getting into Yale without her celebrity status - which is certainly true - does not mean we are purely jealous and are commenting out of spiteful jealousy. It also does not mean we are all idiots or think we have the cure for cancer. We are merely commenting - rationally and logically - that Emma Watson’s celebrity status has given her a huge and unfair advantage over normal people. Because although her 8A*’s and 2As at O’Level, and her (mere) 3As at A’Level are undoubtedly impressive, there are way more intelligent and smarter people out there who do not get into Yale because they lack the status/money/etc. to get into Ivy Leagues. Sad as it is to say, getting into Ivy Leagues isn’t all about grades - your connections play a HUGE part.

And before you accuse me of being a dimwit, my grades are better than hers. However, I have no chance of getting into Yale because I readily acknowledge that there are far better people than me out there (eg. Physics Olympiad Gold Medallists, etc.) and I would have no chance of getting into Yale thus. Hence, if my grades are better than hers and I have no chance of getting in, why would Emma Watson have any chance of getting in if not for her celebrity status?

@ 57

If you get into yale you will graduate and promote your carrier for personal reasons as well as others who deserve to be there, if emma graduates yale, she may go on to become a spokes person for some cause, something you can not do bc you do not have her popularity, people will listen to emma bc of her popularity and education/intelligence, so yale is right to admit her

@ tim #58:

Yes well I didn’t make judgments on whether it was ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ as to whether Yale should admit her - these things shouldn’t be value judgments anyway. I was merely stating that her chances were hugely increased due to her celeb status. And yes, I acknowledge that as a celeb, if - IF she chose to become a spokesperson for some worthy cause, she would have far greater influence than a regular person like me - but this has no relevance in her chances of getting admitted, which was what we were debating above.

Some people here like ilsa are just whining for no reason. So because she was in Harry Potter, she shouldn’t be able to go to the college of her choice?! You sound ridiculous.

And Yale doesn’t accept applications with just straight As and “acting” on them as her attributes. You guys are complaining about an application that you didn’t see. Like Halo said before, people like Meryl Streep went to Yale before they were even known in the “celeb” world. So what’s your excuse about her then? oh that’s right nothing. Emma just happens to act in film but clearly going to a great college like Yale was always on her agenda whether she acted or not. She comes from a well educated family and education is clearly important to her otherwise she wouldn’t be racking her brain on 10 different subjects every night. She could have done like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton but no….she wants to go to college.

ilsa said that she has better grades than Emma Watson. Do you want a cookie or something? I find it funny that you only mentioned grades and not the other attributes like extra curricular activities. I’m sure once you read this post you’ll end up posting 20 different extra curricular activities like “fencing” to make yourself look better.

Get over it people. If Emma indeed get in, then congratulations to her. I’m not some loser who has to tear her down because I have insecurities.

@ Will #60 and #61:

1) If you read my post carefully enough, notice that I did not say Emma Watson does not deserve to go to college. She certainly does have a certain amount of credit considering her decent grades at A’level and extracurricular activities. I was merely commenting that without the celeb status, she might not have been such a shoo-in at Yale.

2) On your point about Meryl Streep: I’m not clear about her circumstances when she got into Yale, but according to your post, you stated that she got into Yale BEFORE she became a famous actress. If so, more props to Meryl Streep because she got in BEFORE she became the actress, hence her admission to Yale was entirely on her own merit and not due to any overarching celeb status.

3) As mentioned before in my post, I was merely commenting on Emma Watson’s greatly improved chances at admission to Yale due to her celeb status. And my point about my own results (and extracurriculars) is merely that even with results better than Watson’s I would not have gotten a place at Yale, thus again emphasising my point about how her celeb status has improved her chances. I was not ‘whining’, as you put it, but merely using the case of my own results to prove my point.

Ses ugly, needs to get over herself, prob only got accepted cause of her status

Shannon/Jake/Hannah et al:

Yale would not accept Watson based solely on her fame and money. As a former admissions officer I can tell you that her grades combined with a really impressive resume probably did make her a shoe in. And for those of you who feel the British Education system is not comparable to the system in the states–you are right—it is much more rigorous. I worked with two universities in England and while the courses were not as “exciting” as some of the cutting edge American courses are–they were extremely rigorous in the arts and sciences. I bet many of our US students would fail the finals if they took them in aUS based comparable course.
An admission team looks at many things in an institution such as Yale. Grades, test scores, extracurricular activities, the ability to utilize the education they will receive, what they will do with it when they leave and more. Ms. Watson probably presented a superior application. Her essay portion was probably unique. Her life experiences certainly so. Yale likes to have foreign students and she qualifies there.
And for those of you criticizing Jodi Foster getting in–she supposedly has a very high IQ so that combined with her life experiences, grades etc. probably got her in.
What you don’t hear about are those that are rejected. Very few of Hollywood’s stars, celebutards etc. feel finishing their education is important. You can tell by how they write their blogs. Hilton, Lohan et al would never get into Yale. They can’t write and their every day actions which would translate to vapidness in an application package would keep them out also.
Emma has a high IQ, is incredibly smart and gifted. Yale is lucky to have her.

Getting an A in A-level is easy as hell over here. Last year, 1 out of 4 people who took it got an A. The system over here is a total joke.

brit @ 02/28/2009 at 12:54 pm
Yet another product of the American public school education I bet.

Fashionista @ 02/28/2009 at 1:30 pm

I think the point Ilsa is making is a valid point similar to mine. You can’t deny something that is fact. Connections, money and “celeb status” can open practically every door and people without that are just at a loss quite frankly. Stick up for famous people if you want, she probably doesn’t care with her 10 million in the bank! You have no right to call us losers, we’re not! I make ok money and work hard every day and definitely plan on promotion etc. Get over yourself Will!! I just haven’t been handed it all on a plate and have found it hard but screw you!

(L) i love.

Just a thought @ 02/28/2009 at 1:44 pm

Don’t forget, Yale also accepted George W. Bush, who graduated with a C- GPA. Yale must have forseen Bush going on to do great things - achieving the highest public office in the United States.

Anonymous @ 02/28/2009 at 2:12 pm

#62: ” I was merely commenting that without the celeb status, she might not have been such a shoo-in at Yale. “………………. I AM MERELY COMMENTING THAT YOUR AFFECTED PRESUMPTUOUS POST, MAY BE ACTUALLY BE GROUNDLESS.

Why would she decline Yale?? It’s freaking Yale for God’s sake!!

i am really tired of people bashing on my girl Emma saying that she did not deserve it and such. I have been a big fan of her since I was 12 and I am now 19. She has /always/ been that smart. She switched schools when she was younger so that she would be able to receive a better education. On all of her exams she has done, /extremely/ well! On her GCSE exams she received all A’s two times might I add. I’ll give you that maybe her name had something to do with it but her getting into Yale isn’t /that/ far of a stretch considering she’s been super smart for quite awhile now.

lakers fan in boston @ 02/28/2009 at 2:39 pm

congrats!!!!
i love smart woman =D

i still cant believe she turned out 2 be a beautiful girl
i use 2 find her ugly as a little kid when i watched harry potter
now she’s looking amazing =]

wow smart and beautiful. she worked hard at school and deserves it. hollywood isnt everything. good luck EMMA.

green_bird @ 02/28/2009 at 4:58 pm

I’m not surprised in the slightest that Emma got into Yale IF she actually did (I remember an old rumor that Dan got into Princeton and he smashed that rumor by essentially saying “I wish I was accepted into Princeton”). I’ve read her intervews; she comes off as incredibly intelligent. And yeah, I’ve read in a couple of places that she matches Hermione Granger in academics.

Ivy leagues tend to look for grades AND unique standouts. And Emma certainly passes as a unique standout: Hermoine Granger in the HP movies and modeling for Chanel. The only way for you to get in and not be unique is if you’re a Yale legacy (coughformerpresidentBushcough).

I always cheer when I see young actresses and actors like her recognizing the need for higher education, especially on their own. Anna Popplewell is another actress I really like. From what little I’ve seen of her in interviews, she almost reminds me of myself from time to time. And she’s in Oxford studying English lit.

duhhhh she got accepted. she’s EMMA WATSON. colleges like celebrities because it attracts attention to the school…..

I wonder what she is like in bed!

Aww man it would have been sweet if I applied to Yale and got accepted and then be dorm buddies with Emma!

i beg ur pardon, i hope people check back, cause i want to reply to u.

Emma Watson Is Extreamly Intelligent!, She one an anuuel prize for poetry at age 7 (b4 harry potter) she has got straight A’s in Secondary/High school and striaght As in college bck in England.

As for the person who said Paris Hilton could get into Yale. dont make me laugh Emma could wipe the floor with Paris with her brain

seriously she is incrediably celever

Will,tom and other pedophiles(yes,because she still looks 14)you NEED a girlfriend,you’re sad and she has a boyfriend..GET A LIFE.

Go Girl!!! That’s awesome. I know she applied to alot of Ivy league schools, so she could attend any of them. But WOW…it’s great to have such a young celebrity who’s soo intelligent and sophisticated!! I’m so happy that all the Potter stars turned out the way that they did. Yay EMMA!!!!

Currentstudent @ 03/01/2009 at 4:54 pm

Generally well-put, Green_bird. And, also [I'm a student, so I think I have enough firsthand knowledge to say this] with the increasing diversity of the applicant population, academic excellence is absolutely a given. That’s the baseline right there, regardless or celeb status, race, connections, etc. Also, being accepted as an 18 year-old is nothing out of the norm; it is in fact quite the standard practice, so I fail to see what all that fuss is about.

Also, since we live in the 21st century and not post WWII America , powerful connections and name recognition are of negligible importance; being a unique standout and demonstrating a passion (theater, for instance) is increasingly important. They look for what you can contribute to the school just as much as how well and creatively you would use the school’s resources. And sure, like our past president demonstrates, legacies do happen, and sometimes it’s somewhat of a politicized issue. Nevertheless, for the VAST majority of cases ain’t no way you’re getting into Yale unless you’ve got the brain. So, at the very least, don’t discount her, fellow commenters.
Also take note of which celebs came here as undergrads — some that have been mentioned are Drama School grads, & etc. NOT Yale College [undergrad] graduates.

Anyone who whines and have no knowledge of Emma Watson is ridiculous. Get a life and stop being insecure!

Emma Watson and other actors and actresses like her (e.g. Natalie Portman) who do NOT let fame go to their head are EXCELLENT ROLE MODELS for EVERYONE not just younger people. That girl has been intelligent since she got into this business and her intelligence has just grown as she has…I KNOW she’s going to do even GREATER things than she already has done in the future and I’m so HAPPY for her. Congrats EMMA!!!!! : D

Unless any of you are members of an admissions staff to which she applied, (which judging from your grammar I doubt) I think it rather presumptuous of you to judge her qualifications for admittance.

i really dont think she would’ve got in if she wasnt ‘famous’

Sorry, but people are right; she wouldn’t get in without the celebrity status.

The point is, she only got 3A’s at A level. Let’s put this into context, she went to a boarding school? Correct… Her parents are both lawyers? Correct… She is from down south? Correct. The point is all of these factors led her towards the Harry Potter role in the first place. And I think 3A’s from a boarding school (with a personal tutor) is incredibly poor.

Now I’m not comparing myself to some genius - because I’m aware I am not. But I come from an incredibly rough state school near Newcastle in the North East. Anyhow, because of my ‘underprivileged’ background I’ve been discriminated against left right and centre. At GCSE I gained 17GCSE’s - of which all were A*’s and A’s. At A level I gained 6A’s 2B’s and I had an undergraduate (first year degree) in Chemistry before I left year 13 (upper sixth). Now what happened with my application? I applied to Sutton trust universities thinking that with my grades I would get in, but no, that wasn’t the case at all. I got rejected from three universities because of not coming from a private school. I am not an arrogant person; I am an incredibly nice and open minded person who believes that those who work deserve a break. But that’s not true, isn’t it not? I’ve lived a reclusive childhood in order to get good grades but because of me coming from a rough area of the country I am not acceptable for these universities. At the end I thankfully got into Durham for biomedical sciences.

But my point is that those who are given everything in life always manage to get more. Before Emma Watson got the harry potter role she was in an incredibly fortunate position, and those people are set up for success. It’s people like me who have to work, I’ve never been handed everything on a plate, and unfortunately this girl has - if only she could see it.

3A’s is incredibly poor your right! I could get that with my eyes closed.

She is very smart as Hermione Granger.
Congratulations, Emma!!!!!!!
Yale is very difficult, isn’t?
But we are happy for her!

In response to comment way down there: you don’t *have to* be a genius to be accepted to Yale (though most would easily qualify as geniuses). I would say minorities, recruited athletes, celebrities with money, and especially legacy have significantly better chances of being accepted than equally, maybe even more capable students in terms of academics.

What the HELL!! Me and my friends received 4 A’s for A-level and we got rejected from many universities we applied to in the UK AND US!!! -Trust me, a lot is to do with the fame!!!! -3 A’s nowadays is NOTHING!! people do 4+ subjects these days!!

I totally agree with the above comment!!
I got 5 A’s and got rejected from Cambridge and all the Ivy league Unis in the US, and nobody’s resume can beat mine…
This is really pissing me off.
It’s all to do with her fame and how it promotes the University. It’s all business.

well first thing first. I will not discredit emma watson. She is smart. But is she that smart?

first of all being a person who has taken both SATs and A levels i can definitely tell u that a level is a lot harder. I breezed through the SAT 1 and 2 with good grades and i barely cracked open the book. (Except for Bio Molecular which i studied the night before the test after my friend told me the syllabus was ENTIRELY different from what im studying.)

However A level requires in depth study and subject concentration, for which the questions can sometimes be almost unrelated. However, UK A levels is alot easier than say, Singapore or come other countries or Korea or sth. So 3 As for Emma means that she is smart.
However, she is not Einstein level, we have to acknowledge that. But there are plenty of people who get 3 As as well, taking harder A level papers. I know people who got 6.

We must also weigh into account that her job doesnt exactly give her a lot of studying time (although she does have a private tutor). LOL we can count acting as her curricular activity. And she certainly excels there.

That being said, I feel that Yale has made a slightly unfair judgement in letting her in. I say slightly because she is a good student(although not as good as Yale students) with curricular activities. Is she smart? yes. Extremely? Not sure. While she exels in acting, I feel her achievements are not not broad enough. I certainly have higher qualifications and more curriculars but i didn’t get yale.

Natalie Portman, I believe, did not get into Harvard through fame. She got excellent grades, acting talent and has demonstrated her passion and drive many times. She prove to have excellent personal qualities. She deserves Harvard. No one can begrudge her that.

Emma? Im not sure. We will see. But she can certainly make it to schools like Michigan and maybe Cornell.

Anyone who says Emma Watson got in SOLELY on her celebrity status has no idea what kind of admissions process Yale has for its undergrad students.

Of course her ridiculously well known name helped her and gave her a leg-up over all the other extremely qualified candidates, because that’s what Ivy admissions is: they want people who will stand out and make them look wonderful.

Still, she had to be brilliant, with great grades and test scores (which she has), to even be considered. It doesn’t matter what your name is or how much money you have if you are a terrible student. And yes, lots of genius are rejected, but that’s only because it’s such a competitive process and they can’t take everyone. It’s an unfair process for everyone, but its ridiculous to say she isn’t qualified.
Ivy League schools have greatly revised the process of admissions since the days when C students with average test scores could get accepted because of legacy or status.

Everyone’s saying we don’t really know if she’s very smart since she could have gotten in since she has money and fame backing her.
But she is a straight A student in one of the hardest private high schools in England which in comparison to American is INSANELY difficult!!
I applaud her and am very proud of her [=

All you people who are saying …ooo… 3A’s is rubbish!
YEH RYT!
i got 4 but i guarantee you, if you wer in her situation, recording and having to be in the lime light all the time with barely any time to yourself to really concentrate on your exams, there is NO WAY you would have done as well.
Quit all the jealousy and play the cards you wer dealt!

i agree with the few hundred people that said she got into Yale because of her name, not her intelligence. i mean look at Hilary Duff. a few years ago, she was boasting that she was taking college classe online at Harvard, but look at her now. she’s not bragging anymore is she. i’m not saying it’s bad that she’s trying to get herself a good education but i mean YALE? even the smartest and gifted students go there and have to work their asses off. does she truly have that kind of a dedication? i think not… but the best of luck to her!

@Shannon:

It’s funny that you say this, because she applied under a different name and everything, and is enrolled under a different name… Although, It was probably quite obvious that it was her application. :D
