Emma Watson Gets Accepted Into Yale?
Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson goes shopping on Bond Street with some gal pals in London on Friday (February 27).
The 18-year-old British actress, who has been filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was later seen speeding off in her eco-friendly Toyota Prius.
Emma reportedly blogged that she got accepted into Yale, the prestigious Ivy League school located in New Haven, Conn. No word on whether or not Emma will attend, defer or decline Yale.
UPDATE: Emma does not have a Twitter account and is deciding between attending university in the UK or US and “hasn’t accepted any placements at this time.”

Congratulations Emma,
Natalie Portman went to Harvard and bc of all the rumors they actually published her work, it is available on the internet and all the skeptics had to shut up.
so emma will just have to publish her work to show you that she deserved to be there.
As many posters before me have said, there are thousands of people with better grades than Emma Watson - even taking into account her mere 3A’s at A’level. 50% of my school alone has 4A’s at A’levels, but do all 600 of those people with 4A’s and wonderful extracurricular records get into Yale? NO. Probably 3 out of that 600 people will.
I’m not saying Emma Watson isn’t intelligent, but comparing her grades and extracurriculars to these brilliant people I know who have achieved international recognition in their science research and medals in International Physics Olympiads but still do NOT get into Yale, then you do see that Yale is a tough tight and Emma Watson probably wouldn’t be there except for her name. She’s a celebrity - of course she’s gonna get in.
Wow! The girl is cute and is smart, now isn’t that special? Good for her, I hope she accepts to go, she could always come back to acting when she graduates just like Jodie Foster did.
looks to me that emma indeed got in bc of her celebrity status in addition to her real qualifications, but emma is the type of celebrity who does not just shop all the time, she aspires to be an educated person and an activist like Natalie Portman, and look what Natalie did with her education, she is more of an activist than just a graduate, so if emma gives Yale a voice coupled with her celebrity to promote good causes, isn;t more important than just to give someone a diploma for a good job?
Dorothea, just because we are commenting that Emma Watson would have lower chances of getting into Yale without her celebrity status - which is certainly true - does not mean we are purely jealous and are commenting out of spiteful jealousy. It also does not mean we are all idiots or think we have the cure for cancer. We are merely commenting - rationally and logically - that Emma Watson’s celebrity status has given her a huge and unfair advantage over normal people. Because although her 8A*’s and 2As at O’Level, and her (mere) 3As at A’Level are undoubtedly impressive, there are way more intelligent and smarter people out there who do not get into Yale because they lack the status/money/etc. to get into Ivy Leagues. Sad as it is to say, getting into Ivy Leagues isn’t all about grades - your connections play a HUGE part.
And before you accuse me of being a dimwit, my grades are better than hers. However, I have no chance of getting into Yale because I readily acknowledge that there are far better people than me out there (eg. Physics Olympiad Gold Medallists, etc.) and I would have no chance of getting into Yale thus. Hence, if my grades are better than hers and I have no chance of getting in, why would Emma Watson have any chance of getting in if not for her celebrity status?
@ 57
If you get into yale you will graduate and promote your carrier for personal reasons as well as others who deserve to be there, if emma graduates yale, she may go on to become a spokes person for some cause, something you can not do bc you do not have her popularity, people will listen to emma bc of her popularity and education/intelligence, so yale is right to admit her
@ tim #58:
Yes well I didn’t make judgments on whether it was ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ as to whether Yale should admit her - these things shouldn’t be value judgments anyway. I was merely stating that her chances were hugely increased due to her celeb status. And yes, I acknowledge that as a celeb, if - IF she chose to become a spokesperson for some worthy cause, she would have far greater influence than a regular person like me - but this has no relevance in her chances of getting admitted, which was what we were debating above.
Some people here like ilsa are just whining for no reason. So because she was in Harry Potter, she shouldn’t be able to go to the college of her choice?! You sound ridiculous.
And Yale doesn’t accept applications with just straight As and “acting” on them as her attributes. You guys are complaining about an application that you didn’t see. Like Halo said before, people like Meryl Streep went to Yale before they were even known in the “celeb” world. So what’s your excuse about her then? oh that’s right nothing. Emma just happens to act in film but clearly going to a great college like Yale was always on her agenda whether she acted or not. She comes from a well educated family and education is clearly important to her otherwise she wouldn’t be racking her brain on 10 different subjects every night. She could have done like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton but no….she wants to go to college.
ilsa said that she has better grades than Emma Watson. Do you want a cookie or something? I find it funny that you only mentioned grades and not the other attributes like extra curricular activities. I’m sure once you read this post you’ll end up posting 20 different extra curricular activities like “fencing” to make yourself look better.
Get over it people. If Emma indeed get in, then congratulations to her. I’m not some loser who has to tear her down because I have insecurities.
@ Will #60 and #61:
1) If you read my post carefully enough, notice that I did not say Emma Watson does not deserve to go to college. She certainly does have a certain amount of credit considering her decent grades at A’level and extracurricular activities. I was merely commenting that without the celeb status, she might not have been such a shoo-in at Yale.
2) On your point about Meryl Streep: I’m not clear about her circumstances when she got into Yale, but according to your post, you stated that she got into Yale BEFORE she became a famous actress. If so, more props to Meryl Streep because she got in BEFORE she became the actress, hence her admission to Yale was entirely on her own merit and not due to any overarching celeb status.
3) As mentioned before in my post, I was merely commenting on Emma Watson’s greatly improved chances at admission to Yale due to her celeb status. And my point about my own results (and extracurriculars) is merely that even with results better than Watson’s I would not have gotten a place at Yale, thus again emphasising my point about how her celeb status has improved her chances. I was not ‘whining’, as you put it, but merely using the case of my own results to prove my point.
Ses ugly, needs to get over herself, prob only got accepted cause of her status
Shannon/Jake/Hannah et al:
Yale would not accept Watson based solely on her fame and money. As a former admissions officer I can tell you that her grades combined with a really impressive resume probably did make her a shoe in. And for those of you who feel the British Education system is not comparable to the system in the states–you are right—it is much more rigorous. I worked with two universities in England and while the courses were not as “exciting” as some of the cutting edge American courses are–they were extremely rigorous in the arts and sciences. I bet many of our US students would fail the finals if they took them in aUS based comparable course.
An admission team looks at many things in an institution such as Yale. Grades, test scores, extracurricular activities, the ability to utilize the education they will receive, what they will do with it when they leave and more. Ms. Watson probably presented a superior application. Her essay portion was probably unique. Her life experiences certainly so. Yale likes to have foreign students and she qualifies there.
And for those of you criticizing Jodi Foster getting in–she supposedly has a very high IQ so that combined with her life experiences, grades etc. probably got her in.
What you don’t hear about are those that are rejected. Very few of Hollywood’s stars, celebutards etc. feel finishing their education is important. You can tell by how they write their blogs. Hilton, Lohan et al would never get into Yale. They can’t write and their every day actions which would translate to vapidness in an application package would keep them out also.
Emma has a high IQ, is incredibly smart and gifted. Yale is lucky to have her.
Getting an A in A-level is easy as hell over here. Last year, 1 out of 4 people who took it got an A. The system over here is a total joke.

Yet another product of the American public school education I bet.
I think the point Ilsa is making is a valid point similar to mine. You can’t deny something that is fact. Connections, money and “celeb status” can open practically every door and people without that are just at a loss quite frankly. Stick up for famous people if you want, she probably doesn’t care with her 10 million in the bank! You have no right to call us losers, we’re not! I make ok money and work hard every day and definitely plan on promotion etc. Get over yourself Will!! I just haven’t been handed it all on a plate and have found it hard but screw you!
(L) i love.
Don’t forget, Yale also accepted George W. Bush, who graduated with a C- GPA. Yale must have forseen Bush going on to do great things - achieving the highest public office in the United States.
#62: ” I was merely commenting that without the celeb status, she might not have been such a shoo-in at Yale. “………………. I AM MERELY COMMENTING THAT YOUR AFFECTED PRESUMPTUOUS POST, MAY BE ACTUALLY BE GROUNDLESS.
Why would she decline Yale?? It’s freaking Yale for God’s sake!!
i am really tired of people bashing on my girl Emma saying that she did not deserve it and such. I have been a big fan of her since I was 12 and I am now 19. She has /always/ been that smart. She switched schools when she was younger so that she would be able to receive a better education. On all of her exams she has done, /extremely/ well! On her GCSE exams she received all A’s two times might I add. I’ll give you that maybe her name had something to do with it but her getting into Yale isn’t /that/ far of a stretch considering she’s been super smart for quite awhile now.
congrats!!!!
i love smart woman =D
i still cant believe she turned out 2 be a beautiful girl
i use 2 find her ugly as a little kid when i watched harry potter
now she’s looking amazing =]
wow smart and beautiful. she worked hard at school and deserves it. hollywood isnt everything. good luck EMMA.
I’m not surprised in the slightest that Emma got into Yale IF she actually did (I remember an old rumor that Dan got into Princeton and he smashed that rumor by essentially saying “I wish I was accepted into Princeton”). I’ve read her intervews; she comes off as incredibly intelligent. And yeah, I’ve read in a couple of places that she matches Hermione Granger in academics.
Ivy leagues tend to look for grades AND unique standouts. And Emma certainly passes as a unique standout: Hermoine Granger in the HP movies and modeling for Chanel. The only way for you to get in and not be unique is if you’re a Yale legacy (coughformerpresidentBushcough).
I always cheer when I see young actresses and actors like her recognizing the need for higher education, especially on their own. Anna Popplewell is another actress I really like. From what little I’ve seen of her in interviews, she almost reminds me of myself from time to time. And she’s in Oxford studying English lit.
duhhhh she got accepted. she’s EMMA WATSON. colleges like celebrities because it attracts attention to the school…..
I wonder what she is like in bed!
