Emma Watson Gets Accepted Into Yale?
Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson goes shopping on Bond Street with some gal pals in London on Friday (February 27).
The 18-year-old British actress, who has been filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was later seen speeding off in her eco-friendly Toyota Prius.
Emma reportedly blogged that she got accepted into Yale, the prestigious Ivy League school located in New Haven, Conn. No word on whether or not Emma will attend, defer or decline Yale.
UPDATE: Emma does not have a Twitter account and is deciding between attending university in the UK or US and “hasn’t accepted any placements at this time.”

—-> I have to say that I agree with this statement, even though I’m not a fan of Emma Watson
Generally well-put, Green_bird. And, also [I'm a student, so I think I have enough firsthand knowledge to say this] with the increasing diversity of the applicant population, academic excellence is absolutely a given. That’s the baseline right there, regardless or celeb status, race, connections, etc. Also, being accepted as an 18 year-old is nothing out of the norm; it is in fact quite the standard practice, so I fail to see what all that fuss is about.
Also, since we live in the 21st century and not post WWII America , powerful connections and name recognition are of negligible importance; being a unique standout and demonstrating a passion (theater, for instance) is increasingly important. They look for what you can contribute to the school just as much as how well and creatively you would use the school’s resources. And sure, like our past president demonstrates, legacies do happen, and sometimes it’s somewhat of a politicized issue. Nevertheless, for the VAST majority of cases ain’t no way you’re getting into Yale unless you’ve got the brain. So, at the very least, don’t discount her, fellow commenters.
Also take note of which celebs came here as undergrads — some that have been mentioned are Drama School grads, & etc. NOT Yale College [undergrad] graduates.
Anyone who whines and have no knowledge of Emma Watson is ridiculous. Get a life and stop being insecure!
Emma Watson and other actors and actresses like her (e.g. Natalie Portman) who do NOT let fame go to their head are EXCELLENT ROLE MODELS for EVERYONE not just younger people. That girl has been intelligent since she got into this business and her intelligence has just grown as she has…I KNOW she’s going to do even GREATER things than she already has done in the future and I’m so HAPPY for her. Congrats EMMA!!!!! : D
Unless any of you are members of an admissions staff to which she applied, (which judging from your grammar I doubt) I think it rather presumptuous of you to judge her qualifications for admittance.
i really dont think she would’ve got in if she wasnt ‘famous’

Sorry, but people are right; she wouldn’t get in without the celebrity status.
The point is, she only got 3A’s at A level. Let’s put this into context, she went to a boarding school? Correct… Her parents are both lawyers? Correct… She is from down south? Correct. The point is all of these factors led her towards the Harry Potter role in the first place. And I think 3A’s from a boarding school (with a personal tutor) is incredibly poor.
Now I’m not comparing myself to some genius - because I’m aware I am not. But I come from an incredibly rough state school near Newcastle in the North East. Anyhow, because of my ‘underprivileged’ background I’ve been discriminated against left right and centre. At GCSE I gained 17GCSE’s - of which all were A*’s and A’s. At A level I gained 6A’s 2B’s and I had an undergraduate (first year degree) in Chemistry before I left year 13 (upper sixth). Now what happened with my application? I applied to Sutton trust universities thinking that with my grades I would get in, but no, that wasn’t the case at all. I got rejected from three universities because of not coming from a private school. I am not an arrogant person; I am an incredibly nice and open minded person who believes that those who work deserve a break. But that’s not true, isn’t it not? I’ve lived a reclusive childhood in order to get good grades but because of me coming from a rough area of the country I am not acceptable for these universities. At the end I thankfully got into Durham for biomedical sciences.
But my point is that those who are given everything in life always manage to get more. Before Emma Watson got the harry potter role she was in an incredibly fortunate position, and those people are set up for success. It’s people like me who have to work, I’ve never been handed everything on a plate, and unfortunately this girl has - if only she could see it.
3A’s is incredibly poor your right! I could get that with my eyes closed.
She is very smart as Hermione Granger.
Congratulations, Emma!!!!!!!
Yale is very difficult, isn’t?
But we are happy for her!
In response to comment way down there: you don’t *have to* be a genius to be accepted to Yale (though most would easily qualify as geniuses). I would say minorities, recruited athletes, celebrities with money, and especially legacy have significantly better chances of being accepted than equally, maybe even more capable students in terms of academics.
What the HELL!! Me and my friends received 4 A’s for A-level and we got rejected from many universities we applied to in the UK AND US!!! -Trust me, a lot is to do with the fame!!!! -3 A’s nowadays is NOTHING!! people do 4+ subjects these days!!
I totally agree with the above comment!!
I got 5 A’s and got rejected from Cambridge and all the Ivy league Unis in the US, and nobody’s resume can beat mine…
This is really pissing me off.
It’s all to do with her fame and how it promotes the University. It’s all business.
well first thing first. I will not discredit emma watson. She is smart. But is she that smart?
first of all being a person who has taken both SATs and A levels i can definitely tell u that a level is a lot harder. I breezed through the SAT 1 and 2 with good grades and i barely cracked open the book. (Except for Bio Molecular which i studied the night before the test after my friend told me the syllabus was ENTIRELY different from what im studying.)
However A level requires in depth study and subject concentration, for which the questions can sometimes be almost unrelated. However, UK A levels is alot easier than say, Singapore or come other countries or Korea or sth. So 3 As for Emma means that she is smart.
However, she is not Einstein level, we have to acknowledge that. But there are plenty of people who get 3 As as well, taking harder A level papers. I know people who got 6.
We must also weigh into account that her job doesnt exactly give her a lot of studying time (although she does have a private tutor). LOL we can count acting as her curricular activity. And she certainly excels there.
That being said, I feel that Yale has made a slightly unfair judgement in letting her in. I say slightly because she is a good student(although not as good as Yale students) with curricular activities. Is she smart? yes. Extremely? Not sure. While she exels in acting, I feel her achievements are not not broad enough. I certainly have higher qualifications and more curriculars but i didn’t get yale.
Natalie Portman, I believe, did not get into Harvard through fame. She got excellent grades, acting talent and has demonstrated her passion and drive many times. She prove to have excellent personal qualities. She deserves Harvard. No one can begrudge her that.
Emma? Im not sure. We will see. But she can certainly make it to schools like Michigan and maybe Cornell.
Anyone who says Emma Watson got in SOLELY on her celebrity status has no idea what kind of admissions process Yale has for its undergrad students.
Of course her ridiculously well known name helped her and gave her a leg-up over all the other extremely qualified candidates, because that’s what Ivy admissions is: they want people who will stand out and make them look wonderful.
Still, she had to be brilliant, with great grades and test scores (which she has), to even be considered. It doesn’t matter what your name is or how much money you have if you are a terrible student. And yes, lots of genius are rejected, but that’s only because it’s such a competitive process and they can’t take everyone. It’s an unfair process for everyone, but its ridiculous to say she isn’t qualified.
Ivy League schools have greatly revised the process of admissions since the days when C students with average test scores could get accepted because of legacy or status.
Everyone’s saying we don’t really know if she’s very smart since she could have gotten in since she has money and fame backing her.
But she is a straight A student in one of the hardest private high schools in England which in comparison to American is INSANELY difficult!!
I applaud her and am very proud of her [=
All you people who are saying …ooo… 3A’s is rubbish!
YEH RYT!
i got 4 but i guarantee you, if you wer in her situation, recording and having to be in the lime light all the time with barely any time to yourself to really concentrate on your exams, there is NO WAY you would have done as well.
Quit all the jealousy and play the cards you wer dealt!
i agree with the few hundred people that said she got into Yale because of her name, not her intelligence. i mean look at Hilary Duff. a few years ago, she was boasting that she was taking college classe online at Harvard, but look at her now. she’s not bragging anymore is she. i’m not saying it’s bad that she’s trying to get herself a good education but i mean YALE? even the smartest and gifted students go there and have to work their asses off. does she truly have that kind of a dedication? i think not… but the best of luck to her!
@Shannon:
It’s funny that you say this, because she applied under a different name and everything, and is enrolled under a different name… Although, It was probably quite obvious that it was her application. :D
*Emma Watson is lovely lady.
