Jake Gyllenhaal & Jim Carrey: Damn Yankees!

Jake Gyllenhaal and Jim Carrey are going to bat in a contemporized film adaptation of the classic musical Damn Yankees.

According to Variety, Damn Yankees focuses on Joe Boyd (Gyllenhaal), a happily married middle-aged man makes a deal with the devil to help the hapless pro baseball team he loves. He trades away his soul and is transformed into slugger Joe Hardy. Boyd can break the deal, but the deadline occurs during the World Series. For good measure, the devil (Carrey) engages Lola, a gorgeous lost soul, to seduce the slugger and seal his fate.

These are actually good choices for the remake. I just hope they get someone good to play Lola. I have a feeling they’ll go for Lindsay Lohan or Scarlet Johanson when they should really go for Isla Fisher.

I do think he is making movies now to make money period. No more high falutin’ nonsense about “art.” I suspect he’s the only Gyllenhaal making much money. Sis doesn’t get paid much I am pretty sure; his parents are broke. so Jakey has to support the whole family, in all probability. (Well, maybe sis can survive on her own).
