Brad Pitt meets with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Whip James Clyburn to discuss the “Make it Right” project on Thursday (March 5) in Washington, D.C.
The 45-year-old actor received their thanks for his rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. The MIR project, launched in 2007, helps to construct affordable and environmentally-sustainable housing for low-income residents of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans who lost their homes as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
“I just want to say thank you to the speaker for opening up her doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding effort, the current rebuilding effort going on in New Orleans and how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability because we think we have a model that works,” Brad said.
Partner Angelina Jolie is in town filming her spy flick, Salt.

Brad Pitt met President Obama this morning, before heading to the Capitol to meet with Nancy Pelosi, as part of an effort to promote post-Katrina rebuilding in New Orleans.

My thoughts on the Make it Right project :–
There is good that come out of these. 1st — People who were displaced will have a home. 2nd — there will be jobs created during construction.
Finally, once this neighborhood is put back together, this can be a POTENTIAL tourist stop for tourists, visiting the area planned with the world’s renowned architects. We all know tourists like to visit UNESCO world heritage sites. The same reasoning can apply here. Travel company can set up WALKING tours. Where can you find a place with all those houses, planned by world renowned architectects ALL IN ONE LOCATION ? And to see how eco-green features are applied, to learn about the history of pre and post Katrina. It could be very educational too.
With tourist bus bringing people to the neighborhood, there will be shops springing up to cater to the tourist, gift shops, restaurants, ice cream store, coffee shop, hotels, etc. Gift shops can sell post Katrina postcards, different houses blueprints, tote bags, MIR T shirts. Heck, they can even bottle those dirt or muds from the site and sell them. It’s all good for the local ECONOMY.
Tourism is big business !!!
Brad’s ideas are BRILLIANT !!! This is the man who has the foresights, the connection, the drive , and the heart. He has all my respect.
We should be greatful that Brad is shepherding this project with his precious TIME.

Jazz singer HARRY CONNICK JR is anxious to meet up with BRAD PITT again, so he can personally thank the movie star for the help he’s giving the residents of New Orleans
, Louisiana.
The pair was among the first celebrities who stepped up to offer aid and support in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which ravaged the city in 2005.
And Connick Jr., who was born and raised in New Orleans, has praised Pitt for organising his Make It Right campaign, which has continued to build homes for the displaced and devastated families in the area.

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - High-level Obama administration officials visited New Orleans for the first time on Thursday and pledged to cut bureaucratic red tape that has hindered efforts to rebuild after 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
“There are still areas where progress has stalled, bureaucracy has set in, and people continue to struggle,” said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, speaking at a press conference at Abundance Square, a residential development in the Upper Ninth Ward where the demolished public housing project known as Desire once stood.
U.S. President Barack Obama on February 20 vowed to prevent a repeat of the “failures” of the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina and promised a stepped-up commitment to Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts.
Former President George W. Bush was widely seen as out of touch with the situation when Katrina struck, flooding 80 percent of the city, killing 1,500 people and causing more than $80 billion in damage.
Bush’s oft-ridiculed remark to then-disaster chief Michael Brown, “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job,” came to symbolize his administration’s botched response. Brown was later relieved of his job.
There are signs that the city is recovering. The metal exterior of the Superdome — the covered sports arena where desperate residents sought shelter during Katrina — is being replaced and the Mahalia Jackson Theater reopened in January.
Pop singer Britney Spears, kicked off her first tour in five years at the New Orleans Arena on Tuesday.
But state officials say billions of dollars in recovery funds promised by the federal government after Katrina have yet to arrive, and local FEMA officials are accused of corruption.
Doug Whitmer, chief of staff of FEMA’s Louisiana Transitional Recovery Office, has been reassigned and FEMA has sent a team to investigate claims of racial discrimination, sexual harassment, nepotism and cronyism. Napolitano said Washington will “make whatever changes are necessary” to “speed up the work and get the money out.”
Napolitano took a bus tour of New Orleans, along with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and other state and local officials.
Craig Fugate, Obama’s nominee to head FEMA, appeared at the press conference but did not speak.

About $3 billion in previously allocated Katrina recovery funds have yet to be handed out, said Republican U.S. Representative Joseph Cao.
FEMA spent $15 billion to buy thousands of portable trailers to house Katrina victims and still doesn’t have a housing plan “that has a decent chance of actually working,” Senator Mary Landrieu, Louisiana Democrat, told Reuters in an interview last week.

New York, N.Y. (tk): Actor Brad Pitt fell in love with New Orleans in
the early 1990’s while filming Interview with the Vampire. “New Orleans
has its own mind…its own thing. It has a real spirit. It’s the most
authentic of all American cities.” In its January ’09 issue,
Architectural Digest catches up with Pitt when he returns to welcome
Katrina victim Gloria Guy back to her new home built by the actor’s
Make It Right Foundation.
A year after the New Orleans storm, Pitt was horrified at the lack of
progress in repairing the damage it wreaked, especially in the
devastated African-American populated Lower Ninth Ward. “I couldn’t
believe nothing was going on. I recalled the pictures of people on
roofs, begging for help and I couldn’t believe that this was our
America.”
Determined to put his dual passions for architecture and
environmentally-sound development to work, he and several partners
started the Make It Right Foundation, whose aim is to build 150 homes
for residents of the lower Ninth Ward – one of the hardest hit during
the ’05 hurricane. He invited architects from around the globe to New
Orleans to submit sustainable – and affordable housing solutions. Pitt
convened a meeting with the architects, residents and community leaders
to establish guidelines for rebuilding the neighborhood. “I never had
any idea that so many people would show up for this. The model works
and it’s replicable.”
Although many thought the Lower Ninth Ward should be abandoned because
its land was below sea level, Pitt argued that other wards – some
populated by white and middle class were on lower ground and nobody
suggested abandonment there. “It seems to me that this is about
fairness. We may have been designed equal, but we certainly weren’t
born equal. I feel great happiness whenever we level the playing
field.”
Six of the originally-planned 150 homes have already been built through
the Foundation. Looking to the future, Pitt believes Make It Right is
a model for projects around the world. “We’ve cracked something
here…these houses redefine affordable housing…this is a proving ground
for a bigger idea that could work globally. This project is not mine
anymore. It’s so beyond me.”
But the day AD talked to Pitt, the day he helped Gloria Guy and her
family move back in, crystallized why he put his passions and his
celebrity behind the Foundation he created. “You have no idea,” he
says, “what a high it is for me to see the delight on people’s faces
when they see how these homes work.”

When golden boy Brad Pitt comes to town, he’s all business. He met with Energy Secretary Steven Chu on Wednesday and Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday. And on Wednesday night, he dined at Adour at the St. Regis Hotel with a large group that included Steve Bing, the real estate developer, movie producer and supporter of liberal causes and candidates. Bing’s also funding Pitt’s “Make It Right” project in New Orleans. A source tells us that other guests cycled in and out throughout the evening, and that the group enjoyed “plenty” of food and wine.
Pitt’s significant other, Angelina Jolie, wasn’t on the scene. After all, she needs her rest as she continues shooting for the upcoming spy thriller “Salt.” On Thursday, she and the crew filmed a chase scene near the Navy Memorial/Archives Metro Station on Pennsylvania Avenue. We also spotted an Angie look-alike, who was doing most of the running during the takes. A crew member told us they’ll be shooting in Georgetown on Friday.

As the previous poster said, this can be an opportunity for NOLA for tourism. I recently visited Berlin and all those architectural giants’ works are testament that a city with a history could rebuild itself. To some it is easy to put a person down. WASHINGTON (AP) — First of all, no, Brad Pitt is not short. Yes, he’s handsome enough to stand out in any crowd. And, sorry, Angie wasn’t with him.
From the moment he stepped into the Capitol on Thursday, sunglassed and goateed, Pitt’s star power transformed congressional business-as-usual in a way any lawmaker or new president might envy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not immune to his charms. Praising Pitt for his work to rebuild New Orleans’ hurricane-ravaged 9th Ward, she even allowed that meeting him affords her “bragging rights to my children and my grandchildren — a real treat for me as well.”
The Power of Pitt drained entire congressional offices of their female employees and quite a few male aides as well, all of whom could be picked out by the way they suddenly appeared in the Senate’s doorways and halls, nonchalantly cupping cell phones and cameras at their sides and hanging around waiting news crews.
Finally, around 1:30 p.m., Pitt, four aides and assorted security guards climbed out of a darkened SUV at the Capitol’s north gate and strolled across the sun-dappled plaza.
As he approached the building, all nonchalance inside disappeared. Was he coming in the carriage entrance? No! He was coming through the North Door.
And so he did, entering through the famous Brumidi corridor, whose ornate and historic paintings he probably couldn’t see through his sunglasses. Reporters, photographers and giggling staffers shuffled after him, up a flight of stairs and around a corner toward Reid’s office. As Pitt entered the parlor, he took off his shades. An aide closed the door behind him.
Inside with Reid, Pitt made an earnest case for nationalizing his “Make It Right New Orleans” campaign, in partnership with Congress, according to a second knowledgeable aide who spoke on condition that he not be named because the meeting was private.
Afterward, this official said, Reid and Pitt posed for pictures, the senator cracking, “How will people tell us apart?”
Outside the door, grinning Capitol Police officers put up ropes to keep the hordes out of the path Pitt was expected to take toward his next meeting, with Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., in a building across the street.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the Judiciary Committee chairman who has appeared as himself in several “Batman” movies and even had a speaking line in “The Dark Knight,” stumbled across the crowd gathered outside Reid’s door.
Told who was inside, Leahy issued a giddy, “Gosh!” and kept walking.
In the end, Pitt and his entourage slipped out a side door and took an elevator to the basement subway.

World-famous tabloid tots Maddox and Pax Jolie-Pitt roaming the Air and Space Museum yesterday morning, attracting throngs of photo-snapping tourists who nonetheless kept a respectful distance (maybe something to do with the security guard by their side). Maddox, 6, wore a navy blue hoodie; Pax, 4, wore an olive green jacket; asked a lot of questions as they toured Space Hall, Skylab and the WWI and WWII exhibits. The brothers came to D.C. with their mother, Angelina Jolie, who had business here with last night’s Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards gala and at the Council on Foreign Relations today.

WASHINGTON - Brad Pitt today met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Whip James Clyburn, and received their thanks for his rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.
Pitt thanked the two Democratic leaders for the assistance provided for New Orleans and urged them to continue to help the city rebuild.
“I just want to say thank you to the speaker for opening up her doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding effort, the current rebuilding effort going on in New Orleans and how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability because we think we have a model that works,” Pitt said.
Pitt, who has a home in New Orleans with his wife, actress Angelina Jolie, founded “Make it Right” in 2007, helping build environmentally sustainable housing for low-income people displaced from their homes by Hurricane Katrina.
Pelosi, speaking with Pitt and Clyburn at a brief press availability after their Capitol meeting, said Pitt had been telling her about how the homes his foundation has built are not only “wonderful home for these families” but built to a “green standard,” with utility bills of less than $10 a month.
“It’s possible,” said Pitt.
Brilliantly done Mr. Pitt. Hopefully he can get some money to finish the 150 homes, I rather have my taxes money goes to MIR than to those banker.

There is something about Jolie in her films. Having never seen “A Mighty Heart” before this Blu-ray arrived at my door, I have no problem admitting that Jolie might just be one of the best actor’s Hollywood has to offer. She puts her all into every role tackling every issue with such raw performances. In her recent “Changeling“, Jolie seems to give her best in the drama genre. Akin to “Changeling“, Jolie acts in a manner that is simultaneously convincing and incredibly emotional powerful that we just can’t help but sit by her as she awaits what we all now know was the grimiest news anyone could hear. Sure it’s probably easy for any to turn in an emotional performance but to actually have the audience convinced that you’re hitting all the notes is a rare feat. And Jolie continues to do this film after film.

WASHINGTON,DC - While Brad Pitt was busy on Capitol Hill Thursday, his other half was hard at work on her new movie in D.C.
Angelina Jolie was busy filming a new espionage action thriller called Salt, and the set was located at The Navy Memorial in Northwest Washington. All of the action unfolded right in front of dozens of star-gazing fans.
Jolie waved to FOX 5’s crew as she walked onto the set. For a little over an hour, she acted out a scene in which she runs toward the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Metro station from 7th Street NW.
The scene played out right in front of anyone who wanted to watch, and the set was so unassuming that some people who were walking by had no idea what they had stumbled onto. Many just stood watching, with cell phone cameras in hand.
“We were standing up here and she was talking to the director, and a couple of young ladies waved and she waved back to them, so that got everyone inspired,” said Irccoh Player, who added that it was a bit of a thrill seeing the star.
“I initially saw her and I said that’s not her, she has blond hair and I wandered up next to her, and she came next to me and I said that is her,” said Deepa Iyengar, who was also there watching. “She’s so beautiful so pretty.”
A fairly large number of Hollywood stars come to the D.C. area to shoot movies and to testify in front of Congress, but Angelina Jolie seems to be in a different galaxy. U.S. Park Police thought they would be pulling paparazzi out of the trees, but fortunately nothing like that happened.
Why do some nuts have a problem with Brad going to the Hill. At every State of the Union address I have seen that Presidents have always brought people to that event who have made a difference in their communities. I have seen that for years. Brad going to the Hill is similar. Brad Pitt is the reason MIR has gotten media attention. He is the reason President Clinton included it in his Global Initiative. Brad Pitt brings the media attention. He knows this.. That is why he does not have a problem with being front and center. Note in the video he did not make it about him Nancy and the other guy made it about his celebrity. He came as an American citizen who saw a need and tried to do something about it. Yes that is Nobel.. Not because it is Brad Pitt,,, but because it is William Bradley Pitt… regular guy trying to do some good. I wonder how many of you are doing the same in your community.. I see on news shows all the time kids, adults trying to fix something in their communities. Collecting clothing, pennies, food; to help. Are they fake.. Are they just in it for the attention. Just because someone is famous does not mean they can’t care about the world and the people in it.
Some of you need to grow the hell up… America and Americans have been doing this forever. This is what makes our country great. How sad that so many people have forgotten that. We are more when we work together then we are doing it alone..

I just felt the million dollar wedding, the big house in BH, etc. was so grotesque. When I found out he was divorcing her and then seeing Ange it’s like I immediately changed my mind about him. I agree with your observation. Angie had done all of her humanitarian work away from the spotlight. She did so much before she and Brad became a couple. The media began talking more about all she had done after Brad came into her life. I think GC was envious of all she had done and how well connected she had become. She was still in her 20’s and had done more than any of those guys (Brad, Clooney, Damon). I think she inspired all of them to get more involved beyond just giving money. She also inspired others like Drew Barrymore, etc. Angie is a real role model. But the media ignored all that for the triangle. But the truth always wins out.
Angie inspired Brad to get involved personally and I think what he did with MIR is very useful for the nation, not just New Orleans. Angie inspired Brad and look at the results. I don’t think Brad would have envison and shephered through the MIR project, if he had not met Angie.

In places like China, India, Brazil etc, there is a growing middle class where new homes are being built at an astonishing rate. For example, when I first visited Pudong which is across the Huangpu river from the Bund in Shanghai in 1999, there were just a few buildings. I was told then that a few years previously, the land was used mainly as vegetable farms feeding Shanghai.

When I visited Pudong again in 2005, it was a city/suburb housing over a million people. Yet most of these buildings are built to old standards of energy usage. It is simply unsustainable because you know that a China, which uses even half the amount of energy as the USA does today is going to send the global environment into a tailspin it may never recover from.

The actor’s face scored a 9.3, which is the highest rating researcher Kendra Schmid has encountered.

“Average people score about a 5 — really, between 4½ and 6,” said Schmid, who has a doctorate in statistics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She now is an assistant professor of biostatistics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Schmid’s work will be part of a two-hour Discovery Channel documentary tonight at 8: “The Science of Sex Appeal.”

Schmid, 29, said the network flew her to Hollywood last fall to explain her statistical model on camera. She didn’t meet Pitt or any other star during her brief visit.

The statistician created the facial analysis when she was a doctoral student at UNL. She had been studying the “geometry of the face” to match security videos with mug shots and other images for law-enforcement purposes.

At the encouragement of her UNL mentors, David Marx and Ashok Samal, she decided to apply her findings to the notion of facial attractiveness.

She built a statistical model by examining classical views of beauty, such as those espoused by Leonardo da Vinci. She then took facial measurements using those concepts. For instance, she said, da Vinci believed the width of the eye should be the same as the distance between the eyes.

I applaud Pitt for his work in New Orleans, but you also have to remember there are a lot of other famous and non-famous people working to build homes in New Orleans too.
President Jimmy Carter, Harry Connick Jr. and many unpaid volunteers including myself have worked with New Orleans Habitat hurricane rebuilding program building homes in areas affected by hurricane Katrina and Rita. To date over 300 homes have been built in New Orleans alone and many more homes are in the process of being completed.
If anyone would love to help, all you have to do is contact Habitat for Humanity at http://www.habitat.org and volunteer. It is a great way to do your part in helping others and to feel great about contributing something positive to this world.

The kids scored a lottery ticket with Slum dog. But now they are their families are gonna need a lot of help to adjust. There will be relatives and friends wanting handouts. The parents who are probably illiterate are going to feel strange in a fancy apartment. Although many mumbaians will claim that caste is not an issue, my experience of India tells me otherwise. Upper and lower caste marriages are still unusual and caste still dictates the economic and educational opportunies available to people, perhaps in part due to historical reasons.

Chances are though, given their parents social economic status, these children are from a low caste. You just can’t buy an apartment for them where the rest of the residents are largely high caste.

It is like Pitt, Jolie, President Carter, and Harry Connick Jr. are all talking about. You do not have to be rich to get involved, you just have to be willing to do more than just talk about something. Like I said, I just contacted habitat’s website and found out the information I needed. The first time I went down to help was for only a weekend. We slept in tents and you’re way too busy to spend money because you are there to work and help finish a home so someone can get back to living in their home. The second time I went down to help, I spent two weeks and I can’t explain how being there and helping someone makes you feel. Anyway, just take the time and check out http://www.habitat.org and take that plunge to do your part in helping others. Remember, if you really want to see change in this country, you have to be willing to become part of that change. Hope to see you in New Orleans.

Just observing that the hysteria surrounding the Brange can occasionally (occasionally means not very often but sometimes, not all the time) be the same. Case in point – today on Capitol Hill. He was there for Make It Right, a meeting with Nancy Pelosi.
Apparently they lost their sh-t.
It was described to me as follows: “Staffers were gasping and screaming like stupid Twilight fans”. Pages were running down back stairwells to get a glimpse of him. These are people with serious jobs, serious issues to address, like the economic crisis, and Brad Pitt comes into the building and everyone melts down!

My youngest daughter and I went to NO to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. We were there for six days. I will say that I was disappointed when we arrived. Having never been to NO, even though my mother came from there, I didn’t know what to expect.
Downtown was like any downtown area in a moderae sized city. The French Quarter was pretty, think Tennesse Williams, and William Faulkner. The Garden District, etc.
We were assigned to the Central Area, which is north of the ninth ward. It was desolate. I wrote about this last year after I returned. To say there is still a need is a understatement.
No Brad is not the only one building houses there. Jimmy Carter is with Habitat for Humanity. He did start it, I forget the name of the man who did. He died last year. But Jimmy Carter has become the face of HFH.
And Harry Connick Jr, and the brother of Wynton Marselis built the Musicians Village with assistance from HFH. And a church might help an individual or two with the building of a house. But there is no wholesale building going on down there.
My daughter toured everything and talked to everyone we met. And I never met any one who said anything negative about Brad Pitt or his houses. If anything the people I/we talked to all wished they could get a “Brad Pitt” house.
Also once they saw that we were there volunteering they were so grateful. More than once I had people tell my daughter and me, “Thank you for coming down. We thought the world had forgot us.” It was overwhelming.
As I said before the work was hard. And it was very hot. I would go back to the hotel, rest, take a shower and go out to dinner. We didn’t do any shopping. Although we did do a little sight seeing. If I go back I will do more sight seeing.
Brad as a hero. I think he is. He has never claimed to be doing this by himself. He originally gave five million dollars. And recently he gave some more money. This was mentioned in an article posted here on Jared’s.
Someone had written about his and Angelina’s donations for 2008. It was eight million dollars, with a larg portion going to MIR. How large a portion wasn’t stated.
I think it is wonderful what he is doing. And I am glad his efforts are being recognized. Peace
I have so much respect and admiration for this young man. Bless his heart! It always great to see people like Brad and Angie who care.

Bumped into Brad Pitt today. Which was nice.
We’ve got the video to prove it. If you think it doesn’t really look like your typical celebrity picture, here’s what was going on: Joe Johns, photographer Jeremy Moorhead, and I, were prowling the tunnels of the Capitol’s underground subway system, accosting Senators and Members of Congress to ask them about health care (that’ll be our story on the show tonight). While Joe and I were mumbling about where to go next, the ever-vigilant Jeremy spotted Brad Pitt coming towards us, flipped on the camera and got the shot.
Some people tell stories about meeting famous people and blurting out something really dumb… not Joe. Completely focused on our mission, Joe called out, “Wanna talk about health care?”
Yeah… As you can see, it didn’t really work. Brad - and his security entourage - were gone. And then a throng of determined-looking admirers (congressional interns??) came out of nowhere, chasing him. The Capitol police cut them off in the tunnel.
In fact, the issue Mr Pitt was in town to talk about was his charity work in New Orleans. He had meetings at the White House and with Speaker Nancy Pelosi about his “Make it Right” project to build affordable and environmentally-sustainable housing for low-income residents of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans who lost their homes because of Hurricane Katrina. At least that’s the official word on what was discussed….he managed to pull off most of these meetings pretty much under the radar, which is why we were happy to get this video.
As we relived the moment later, Joe was saying that when he used to be in charge of the Radio and Television Correspondents Association, it could be really difficult to book stars to perform at the Association’s annual dinner, because so many Hollywood types didn’t want to share the stage with President Bush. Now, with the Obamas and their star factor, maybe we’ll be bumping into a lot more A-listers around town.
Finally, because I’ve been asked a million times today what he looked like in person, I’ll just say this: in this job, you get to meet a fair amount of famous people. Usually, when you meet them in person, they look pretty normal. Brad Pitt may have been in an unglamorous basement tunnel, in the same place where you can run into any number of Senators and they hardly stand out, but he still looked glamorous. Or maybe you had to be there.

Hypocrite of the Week: Jennifer Aniston
I am so over listening to Jennifer Aniston go on and on about how weary she is of talking about her relationship with her ex-husband Brad Pitt and the current love of his life, Angelina Jolie.
Every time she has a new project to promote, out comes Jen the victim on the cover of a slew of magazines updating the world on her current feelings about a bust up that happened eons ago in Hollywood time. Honestly it’s a bit like Groundhog Day, because each and every time I see the latest quotes from Aniston about Brangelina and her now defunct marriage, I could swear I’ve heard it all before. It’s like the tabloid story that just won’t die and the reason it won’t die is, at least, in part because Jennifer Aniston won’t let it.
Enough already!
If Jennifer Aniston doesn’t want to share her innermost feelings about her relationship with Brad Pitt or her thoughts on Angelina Jolie then she should just stop doing so. Period. End of story. It’s really that simple.
There’s no need for Aniston to keep explaining her feelings as she does in the April issue of British Elle where she is quoted as saying:
“No matter what I say, things will always be taken out of context and misinterpreted, will always be turned around to make it seem as though I won’t let something go, or that I just keep talking about it over and over.”
“I don’t owe anybody anything. I don’t owe anybody my side of the story. There are no sides! There is no bad guy and there is no good guy. There are no villains and there is no heroine in this story. It’s just not the case.”
Well if that is in fact the case, then I have to ask why Jennifer Aniston feels even the slightest bit compelled to say as much? I mean, it’s not as if she isn’t a big enough star that her inner circle couldn’t tell reporters that the actress’ marriage to Brad Pitt, which ended more than four years ago, is off limits if she really doesn’t want to talk about it. After all, that practice is more common than most even understand in Tinseltown.
The problem for Aniston, however, is that her role in the Pitt-Jolie-Aniston love triangle is actually the most interesting thing she has going for her in terms of entertainment value and something tells me that fact is not lost on the former Friends star. I just wish Jen would admit it and stop pretending as if she’s so put upon by constantly gabbing about the very thing she always says she doesn’t want to talk about. It’s downright hypocritical in my book.

Brad Pitt was thanked for his efforts to rebuild New Orleans during a visit to Washington DC today.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi introduced the actor during a press conference as a “real model for the nation.”
“It gives us the opportunity to congratulate him on his leadership role and the work that he is doing to build a strong New Orleans,” she added.
The Oscar nominated actor launched his Make It Right project in 2007 to help create housing for those who lost their homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward during Hurricane Katrina.
“I just want to say thank you to the Speaker for opening up the doors to let us come in and discuss the current rebuilding effort going on in New Orleans and how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability because we think we have a model that works,” Brad said.

Thailand’s treatment of Rohingya refugees ‘unjustifiable’

The Thai military has come under harsh criticism in the past two months for its brutal mistreatment of over 500 Rohingya refugees fleeing persecution in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and seeking refuge in Thailand. Having arrived in small boats from Myanmar, the refugees have been pulled ashore by the Thai military, beaten and then towed back to sea with little or no food or water.
USCRI Policy Director Merrill Smith spoke on Australia’s ABC radio about the gross human rights violations taking place in Thailand in an effort to bring greater visibility to the plight of the Rohingyas (click on the audio player below to listen to the full interview). Smith explained that regardless of the politics involved, the Thai government’s behavior is reprehensible. “Nothing justifies this type of abrogation of human rights,” he said.
Veerawit Tianchainan, USCRI’s Thailand Director, said most Thai officials do not understand their responsibility to refugees. “The main obligation is not to push away people who are fleeing for fear of death or torture,” he said.

Thailand has also prevented UNHCR from meeting with the refugees, as well as stopping them from providing food and other humanitarian assistance to these refugees. As Smith further explained it wouldn’t be the first time Thailand has cut off access from international relief organizations to refugees. The government did the same thing with Hmong refugees from Laos, effectively cutting off independent monitoring to hundreds of people in need of protection.
Smith implored the Thai government to at least allow UNHCR to meet with these refugees. But Smith did make the point that Thailand can’t care for these refugees alone and be expected to bear the full responsibility of supporting Rohingyas and other refugee groups. The international community must help Thailand deal with the refugee situation.

Its about how he loves his family and how he knows that he was put on this earth to do more than films and how he is actually doing something with his life. The Jolie-Pitt’s donate their own money into the Jolie-Pitt foundations which they started. From there the money is despensed as needed. Oprah does the same thing. She gave over 50 million to The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and Oprah’s Angel Network. It how things work.

Look at all the mag covers huvane bought for maniston. Look at the headlining kudos he negotiated for her in those large-cast ensemble movies that she’s out promoting now (M&M and HJNTIY). Does anyone here really think that maniston had a more important role in these movies than any other one of her co-stars? Why didnt anyone of the others in HJNTIY also go on a promo tour of this pathetic little movie? Ask yourselves.
So dont be shocked to find out that huvane has approached JJ for more favourable coverage of his sickest client, maniston. And dont be surprised at some of the vitriol spewed by the haters. chances are, its only maniston at her best. Afterall, we all know that the chick is addicted to the net, always wanting to know what people are saying about her.

Of all the secret underground entrances within the Capital building, BP chooses to come through the front door with security guards and aides? Isn’t the Capital secure enough for him to come alone.
And I vomited a little in my mouth at his self inflating grin as Pelosi and Clyburn lauded his organization. Sure his program is well-meaning and it will help families in New Orleans, but isn’t the best form of charity, charity that “vaunteth not itself”?
If he practiced a little more of this, BP could actually spend more time on his program, thus further along than ONLY 8 houses in a year and some change. In comparison, the local habitat in Atlanta, in which I’ve helped to build houses for, builds 30 houses a year and ALL our funds to build are through charitable donations.
Maybe that’s why George Clooney has been honored twice by Nobel Prize winners and not AJ nor BP. Obviously, the winners recognize a media blitz and vainglory better than their fans do.

It is so great to see celebrities use there fame for some really great causes. The rebuilding effort in Louisiana is not the only project that Brad and Angie do. They give A LOT of money and time to many causes! They are just great examples and role models.

Behind every good man is a great women. Kudos to Brad Pitt he is such a humanitarian. However, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Angie. I believe that her passion for human life has greatly influenced him and he now realizes the importance of empowering people. They are an amazing couple.
Brad, Brad, Brad…some of the comments on here actually nauseate. me. Brad is just a normal person. He is not anything special. Sure, he has lots of money, but if I were him, I’d give away as much as possible, otherwise, the IRS and obama will get it.
He also cheated on his wife, but everyone ignores that don’t they? Pssst. They call that adultery. Yes, adultery is still a word that is used for not being able to keep the promise you made to your wife to always be true to her. ADULTERER. You idolize an adulterer? Come on, find someone better to look up to.
He has such a good heart? How do you know, you can’t see inside his soul. it’s easy to spend money and give money away when you are looking for tax breaks. These people are nothing special. They are way overpaid.
Plus, Brad is fraternizing with the enemy when he even speaks to Nancy Pelosi. Brad you are on my thumb’s down list.
