Brad Pitt is Leaving on a Jet Plane
Brad Pitt boards a jet plane in another pair of Hoyle Jackson jeans, aviator glasses and a newsboy hat in Kenner, Louisiana on Saturday (March 28).
The 45-year-old super dad’s partner, Angelina Jolie, topped the most recent Forbes‘ list of “Hollywood’s Most Bankable Actresses”.
Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Keira Knightley also scored well. The completely methodology of how the scores were calculated are here.
Angie had a cumulative score of 9.89, followed by Julia Roberts at 9.65 and Meryl Streep at 9.55.

Brad is totally dedicated to making MIR all that it can be. He is such a good guy.

Jen Aniston’s Ice Queen Antics on Baster Set

It was like being at a new school on the first day of class for superstar Jennifer Anistonon Monday, as she began work on the NYC set of her upcoming film, The Baster.
The former Friend spent her day inside Greenwich Village restaurant Barbuto, shooting an awkward date scene with co-star Jason Bateman. The set-up involved the actors sitting at a booth inside the restaurant attempting to have a conversation.
Perhaps Jen was trying to stay in character between takes, because witnesses tell OK! wasn’t any friendlier when the cameras stopped rolling. “Jen kept mostly to herself,” one on-set source reveals. “She didn’t talk to anyone during the breaks.”
Though some Baster insiders tell OK! that Jen is “sweet and totally normal,” she’s not doing a great job of convincing everyone of that fact. In fact, on her first day on the set, she held up shooting because her hair wasn’t perfect.
“In the morning, the cast and crew had to wait to start filming without Jen because she asked for extra time to finishing blow-drying her hair,” reveals one source.
And when the lunch bell rang, not only did Jen not deign to eat her Cobb salad in the company of her new co-workers, she actually had herself driven to her trailer so she could eat alone!
“Jen refused to walk even a step outside the restaurant during the break for lunch,” says an insider. “She had her car pull up right next to the restaurant so she could be driven less than a block to her trailer to avoid photographers.”
The Baster is reportedly the story of an unmarried woman who uses a turkey baster to conceive a child.

Actually JS has cleaned up since all the RL wife/marriage thing went down. She grew up. JS also says her thing with AJ was a college youthful thing that was long over and in past, like 11+ years. If the truth be known, JLM, AJ’s 1st husband, was the man Angie turned to for years before and after BBT until she fell in deepest love with Brad Pitt. And Brad and Angie’s rental estate in Huntington is only about 10 miles from an excellent full service airport for private planes & pilots in Farmingdale. Did people think he was flying that little plane out of JFK? They are actually in a perfect spot to take advantage of the flying opportunities on Long Island. SUNY even teaches flying out of Farmingdale.

I just read some excellent reviews at Amazon of Angie’s journals of her earlier travels with the UNHCR. There were many reviewers who were just blown away by her recounting of her experiences - including people who had lived and worked in the places she wrote about. I was tempted to order from Amazon but since the proceeds of the sales go to the UNHCR I thought it would be better to order the book directly from the UNHCR (if that’s possible) rather than buy a used book.
I forgot to add that the Farmingdale Airport is right near the old Grumman facilities where Angie will be filming. It’s on the same road - Grumman Lane. You’d think they would have renamed the road by now. I’m dating myself but in my youth I used to fly out of Islip on Mohawk and Eastern when I was staying further out on the Island. Those were the days.

My friend just got back from spending a long weekend in NOLA. She had a blast from enjoying the wonderful jazz to the great food. She used to go every year for her birthday until Katrina hit. Anyway, kudos to Brad for creating MIR. He truly is a visionary.
Heard on NPR that Dubai is hurting financially, so all their big development plans are basically on hold. I’m thinking that Brad & Graft’s hotel & resort project might be also affected.

New Orleanians frustrated by the city’s slow progress in redeveloping blighted and storm damaged properties should be encouraged by the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority’s recent steps.
That may be starting to change.
The agency has begun forging agreements with well-organized non-profits that plan to rebuild several hundred homes. Those kinds of private initiatives have fueled New Orleans’ recovery and NORA’s decision to partner with such groups is a promising development that the agency should expand further.
The agreements include a deal NORA announced this week with actor Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation, which plans to build at least 150 homes in the Lower 9th Ward. The foundation will buy up to 50 properties there from NORA. In return, the agency agreed to use the proceeds to finance neighborhood improvements, even possibly attracting a grocery store or other businesses.
The agreement comes just months after NORA signed separate deals with a group led by actor Wendell Pierce and musician Terence Blanchard to build homes in Pontchartrain Park and with a developer building homes in Gentilly Woods. Those agreements will eventually transfer 215 NORA properties to the developers.
This newspaper has long advocated that public officials at the local and state level partner with proven private developers to accelerate our recovery, and it’s heartening to see NORA moving in that direction.
The same strategy could be used in other city efforts. For years, City Hall has had trouble using millions in federal housing funds, and the administration could now seek partnerships like those NORA is forging.
Redeveloping thousands of properties still abandoned won’t be an easy task. But it will be easier and more effective if the city gives them to private groups with a proven record.

And I’m doing a children’s movie this summer, the Oogieloves and the Big Balloon Adventure. I get to sing and dance in it, so I can’t wait. My great-grandson will like that one. We’re also talking about doing a stage version of Driving Miss Daisy, with some songs in it. I think that would be wonderful.
And I’m returning to my one-woman show, which got pushed aside a bit for Dancing With the Stars. I’m going to do it again. In fact, I just did it on a ship for 2,000 people and they loved it! They gave me a standing ovation before I even finished. It was lovely.

Global Green president to speak at Tulane Law School Summit on Environmental Law and Policy

The president of the organization behind Brad Pitt’s housing initiative in the Lower 9th Ward will be among the speakers this weekend at the 14th annual Tulane Law School Summit on Environmental Law and Policy.
In addition to Matt Petersen, the president of Global Green USA, the scheduled lineup includes Bill McKibben, an environmentalist and author.
The two-day conference, which will start Friday, will be in Weinmann Hall, 6325 Freret St. Optional tours of the Holy Cross neighborhood and the Manchac wetlands will be offered Sunday.
Tulane faculty and staff will be admitted free, along with all students.

THE FILM adaptation of novel The Time Traveller’s Wife was delayed when the crew had to wait for Eric Bana’s hair to regrow.
Bana, who plays a time-travelling Chicago librarian, was also starring as another time traveller - the bald-headed Romulan baddie Nero in the upcoming Star Trek film.
Co-star Rachel McAdams, who plays love interest Clare Abshire, told reporters that the film’s delay was due to Bana’s unavailability for just one additional scene required by director Robert Schwentke. The rest of the filming wrapped in 2007.
McAdams said: “Eric was the hold-up. He had to shave his head for a different role, for Star Trek. So we were waiting on Eric’s hair.
“We did an additional scene in the meadow, so we were also waiting on the meadow to look the way it did [the first time we shot].
“Basically we were waiting on nature and Eric’s hair”, she told Sci Fi Wire.
The film, based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, is set for release on August 14 and tells the story of librarian Henry DeTamble who has a genetic disorder that causes uncontrolled time travel.
Despite his unpredictable disappearances, he tries to build a romance with artist Clare Abshire.
Brad Pitt is among the producers on the project, which is being made by Warner Bros division New Line Cinema.

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans’ main redevelopment agency and Brad Pitt’s Make It Right foundation are working to rebuild more than houses in the city’s Katrina-scarred Lower 9th Ward.
Under an agreement described by officials Monday, the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority would use the proceeds from the sale of up to 50 properties to Make It Right for neighborhood improvement projects. While no decision has been made on how to invest the money, a grocery store — a need local residents have repeatedly cited — is near the top of the list.
“We’re trying to create a win-win,” said Ommeed Sathe, NORA’s director of real estate and development.
The Lower 9th Ward was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches in August 2005; by one estimate, just 17 percent of the pre-storm population has returned. Derelict houses and warped, cracked streets dot the area. There’s a school but few businesses or other amenities.
The agreement is unusual. Generally, developers pay appraised, fair-market value for properties, with NORA expected to reinvest the proceeds in such things as acquiring new properties or helping to make the homes built more affordable.
The idea behind this agreement is to help build up the neighborhood — allow Make It Right, which many see as an innovator of green, sustainable construction, to focus on building. For NORA, it frees the agency to make new investments to revitalize the neighborhood to improve quality of life.

A day trip out of town is hardly child negelct. Both Jolie and Pitt clearly spend gads more time with their kids than most any working parents do. Granted they have the luxury of not having to work 48 weeks a year and being away from home almost 10 hours out of the day but there it is. For a short time during the year they have hectic schedules as Angie does now but otherwise they are always with their kids. Unless you have real and truthful information about the time they spend with their kids then you’re just talking out of your butt.

hello fans of brad and angie.i am an avid JP fan. they are the most beautiful couple in the world.They are very popular here in Greece.I just wish they will come here in Greece and visit many wonderful islands here esp. this summer.I usedn to admire Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts also Angelina but since 2005 i have been a solid Brangelina fans.I never admire hollywood celebs the way i admire them.There is really something about them that sets them apart from other celebrities.i think they are also down to earth.I so love them.please bear with my english, it is my second llanguage.

I used to be a tabloid junky but not anymore. I don’t even have the urge to read them even in the checkout because most of it is bs anyhow. There were many reviewers who were just blown away by her recounting of her experiences - including people who had lived and worked in the places she wrote about. I was tempted to order from Amazon but since the proceeds of the sales go to the UNHCR I thought it would be better to order the book directly from the UNHCR (if that’s possible) rather than buy a used book.

He even told Porgie in the EW interview in 2007 when Oceans 13 came out - when Porgie was commenting on how bad he felt over the lousy reviews he got at Cannes for OBWAT and later for Oceans 12 - that he didn’t read the reviews, that he knew how HE felt about the films and that was good enough for him. He repeated as much at the Oscar Roundtable this year when he said he had nothing to prove anymore and used TAOJJ as an example of one of his movies that was on the books as commercial failure, but he didn’t care because HE loved the movie and figure if he did, then there’d be others who would as well. Worldwide boxoffice increased 5.2% in 2008, reaching a historic high of $28.1 billion, according to the MPAA, which released its annual snapshot of the movie industry Tuesday.
International boxoffice, which rose to $18.3 billion, accounted for 65% of the worldwide figure, while domestic boxoffice climbed slightly to $9.8 billion. Overall, international boxoffice, as reported in U.S. dollars, has grown 17% in the past five years.
For 2008, domestic boxoffice grew by 1.7% over 2007. However, admissions, which numbered 1.364 billion, were down 2.6% for the year. Admissions have stayed relatively flat for the past 10 years, with the exception of 2002’s high of 1.6 billion admissions.
Meanwhile, the average ticket price increased by 30 cents to $7.18, up 4.4% over the previous year.
Nationwide, the total number of theaters remained flat at 6,289, but individual theaters boasted more screens as the number of screens rose to 40,194 in 2008, up 0.3% from the previous year.

The truth still hurts: Ex-gossip columnist has scoop on homelessness
Time was, Jeannette Walls was a gossip columnist living on New York’s posh Fifth Avenue and hiding a secret she thought would destroy her career. One day, she saw her secret — an old, homeless woman picking through trash. It was her mother.

Walls grew up in the desert Southwest and in a West Virginia mining town. She is one of four children of, by her description, an alcoholic father and head-in-the clouds mother — both highly intelligent but irresponsible.
The family lived a nomadic, often homeless life.
Walls tells all in the best-selling book, “The Glass Castle.”
She will tell more Thursday in a Bellin Health LifeLines lecture at the Weidner Center. The opportunity to address audiences is “an astonishing gift,” Walls said from her home in Virginia.
Here is a poverty-stricken kid who made it into exclusive Barnard College and on into New York magazine, Esquire, USA Today, E!’s “The Gossip Show,” MSNBC.com and a lot of TV appearances. Only her husband knew about her deliberately destitute mother.
“When I saw her on the street that day, I was too ashamed to publicly acknowledge her,” Walls said. “Later on, I asked her, ‘What am I supposed to tell people when they ask me about you?’
“When she challenged me, ‘Just tell the truth,’ it was a real smack in the face that I needed because here I’ve always believed in the power of storytelling and the power of the truth.”
Walls’ father is deceased. For years, her mother refused assistance.
“My mom was homeless and living as a squatter for about 25 years in New York,” said Walls, 49.
Walls’ perspective provides a window on this statistic: Homelessness among teens in Wisconsin has risen 75 percent in the last five years.
“Wow,” she said. “You know, there are so many causes of homelessness. A lot of people ask me if my parents are typical of homeless people. Our situation was unique. But each situation is unique.
“Homelessness can be caused by someone losing their job, someone losing their health insurance, mental illness, drug addiction. Each case needs to be approached individually.”
Walls dislikes the label “homeless” because it tends to lump people together.
“It’s easy to stereotype people, but stereotypes are half-truths. Stereotypes and caricatures are half-truths, and something can be accurate without being genuinely true. That’s one of the reasons I did want to tell my parents’ story.”
You’re probably going to hear more about the story. Walls sold the rights to Paramount for a film, and Brad Pitt’s production company is working on it.

A couple of things that jump out at me about this article - first of all…I remember her from the old E! gossip show. Terd was one of the people featured on the show, too. Walls was one of the few people who didn’t do salacious kinds of rumors. She did the bland, cutesy kinds of stories typical of People mag. She was a pretty big name in the gossip world in the mid-90s. Considering how long Brad’s been a target of gossips…him acquiring the rights to her story is rather ironic.

I remember Walls from her gossip days and she really wasn’t that bad. Then again, in the early and mid-90s there were a lot fewer outlets for gossip and most of it tended to be nicey-nice stuff. None of this shite where the gossips think they’re as big a the celebrities and making up stories just to get people to their site. Most of the gossips at the time worked for newspapers and magazines that had journalistic standards to adhere to keep themselves from being sued. It wasn’t like it is now where a legit news agency like ABC calls up asses like Terd to comment on why a movie flopped instead of going to the box office experts at Variety or THR.

Terd was on that gossip show with Jeannette Walls and he was a senior editor for Premiere mag at the time. Other people who were on the show and working for legit news agencies - Stacey Janel Smith who was with TVG at the time, Army Archerd with Variety (back before Variety became the industry’s butt-buddy), Michael Musto of the Village Voice…there was some chick from Jet & Ebony who’s name I can’t recall…even Rona Barrett (who used to be with THR and ABC), Liz Smith and Cindy Adams (with the NYP, which wasn’t always as trashy as it is now) put in face time on the show.

Children are children, no matter where you adopt them from or the race. To give a child a loving home is what matters.

First, I’m a girl and and second I was being biased on that post since I like George Clooney better out of their bromance. Hey, Brad has a hot body but that beard? No! Speaking backstage last month after filming their appearances for the CBS special “A Home for the Holidays,” Foxx, Hill and Cole shared how they coped with being adopted and why they performed for the show, which offers a mix of musical entertainment and information about child adoption.
“I was lucky,” said the Oscar-winning Foxx (”Ray”). “I was adopted at seven months, but the lady who adopted me also adopted my mother, so I had a relationship with my biological parents, also.”
Country superstar Hill was also adopted as an infant but, after hitting adolescence, had to fight off the adoption stigma. “When kids would call one another names, they’d say, `You act like you’re adopted.’ And I’d always get ‘em good, because I’d say, `Well, I am adopted. So what do you think about that?’ ” she said.
The special, which airs Tuesday, was the brainchild of Dave Thomas, the Wendy’s restaurant founder. Thomas, who was adopted, created the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in 1992.
Soul diva Keyshia Cole said, “My personal story was my mother was on drugs all my life and she didn’t get a little bit better until I became ‘Keyshia Cole the Celebrity.’ Maybe it was a good way for her to see herself — that your daughter has become so much and she’s become so big.”
The show will feature musical performances by Hill’s husband Tim McGraw, as well as Kristin Chenoweth, Gavin Rossdale and Melissa Etheridge.
Etheridge, a mother of four, adopted two children with former partner, director Julie Cypher. It wasn’t lost on Etheridge that her involvement in the special came just days after Arkansas voters approved a law banning gays from adopting children.
“Our homes are good homes,” Etheridge said, who also has twins with current partner Tammy Lynn Michaels. “We’re hard-working people. We love. We live. We can raise people to be members of society. It is a crime to keep children who could be in a loving home away just because those two parents are of the same sex. It’s a crime. It’s just a shame.”
Hill, who hosts and performs on the special, said “I believe it’s over 20,000 children have been adopted because of this show. The rise of “feisty online alternatives” and the recession have sped up the decline of some celebrity media franchises, according to the report. But “timid magazine management” is also to blame.
As a result, celebrity magazines “have the most to lose” in terms of audience and revenues—“and they will certainly lose the most in the years ahead.” People, the report notes, is perhaps the only magazine to prove itself as a multi-platform leader—accounting for 24 percent of the category’s print circulation, 28 percent of its ad pages and “an eyebrow-raising” 43 percent of its revenues.
Even People, however, has “to face the same nagging issues: the segment’s dwindling readership base, the buyers’ market for advertising, and cost pressures across the board that are painfully compressing margins,” the report said.

Feature: Jolie gives refugee girls a shot at school in Kenya
KAKUMA, Kenya, Oct 14 (UNHCR) – Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie leaned forward eagerly as a young Sudanese girl quietly recounted her tale of how she had fled war and hunger in her homeland and finally made her way to Kakuma refugee camp just over the border in north-western Kenya.
“She lost her entire family when she was only five years old and has been in this camp for more than 10 years. What do you say to someone who loses her whole family at such an age?” asked Jolie, visibly moved as she heard this and many other stories from refugee girls who had flocked to welcome her on this visit on Sunday. The sprawling camp at Kakuma is home to some 80,000 people.
Many of the girls moved Jolie, a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, close to tears as they told her how much they wanted to go to school and receive an education, but for a variety of reasons were often unable to do so.
“These girls are so strong, so inspiring. They want an education because they want a better life, they know they don’t have to stay forever near the bottom of the pile and want to move up,” Jolie said after sitting and chatting with the girls under the shade of a tree at one reception centre.
The Goodwill Ambassador shook her head in disbelief as she heard how many of the girls and women in the camp were subjected to various forms of violence – from rape to genital mutilation – and how many were unable to attend school due to domestic chores.
“On this trip my main concern has become the plight of refugee women and particularly girls. In Kakuma, close to 1,000 girls are out of school. I was upset to find that a good part of them are in this situation because of both early and forced marriages. I saw 12-year-old mothers!” she said.
To address the problems of young girls being abducted for marriage and early pregnancies, the UN refugee agency has set up programmes in the camp, like increasing the number of female police officers to encourage reporting of such incidents. A magistrate from the nearby town of Lodwar travels to Kakuma regularly to hear cases in a mobile court set up to handle various cases, including the abduction of girls for marriage. Refugee women committees established throughout the camp help counsel victims of early pregnancies and speak to communities about the risks of female genital mutilation. In school, an incentive programme is being run to encourage more girls to attend school. Attendance remains very irregular depending on domestic pressures refugee girls may face at home.
“As a refugee girl, you are expected to stand in line for hours to fetch water and carry it home, go out and forage for firewood, and cook and clean for the family,” said Jolie, noting that girls had to confront many other barriers in order to receive a decent education.
The Goodwill Ambassador made a personal donation of $200,000 to UNHCR’s work in Kenya, earmarking $50,000 of her donation to build a new school for girls at the camp. Many of its prospective pupils sang and clapped their hands as she unveiled a plaque and planted a tree at the proposed site.
“With this help, and the construction of this school, future generations of girls will be saved. Work begins tomorrow,” declared Kofi Mable, head of UNHCR’s Kakuma sub-office.
The plaque reads: “Dedicated to the emancipation of the refugee girls of Kakuma and women’s rights and freedom to education.”
Jolie said she had also heard chilling accounts of children as young as five being subjected to genital mutilation. “A number of the older women have also been raped and suffered other forms of sexual violence,” she said. “There can be no compromise on the physical safety and dignity of women as a whole, and particularly the refugee girls.”
Jolie, who is in Kenya shooting the sequel to the movie, “Tomb Raider”, also visited several other projects at the camp and handed out gifts ranging from volleyballs to exercise books. She expressed concern that a projected budget shortfall of some $20 million in UNHCR Kenya could lead to programme cuts.
“Most of the people here are already living on the bare minimum – any cut means a life,” she said, and appealed to the international community to continue to support “the work of UNHCR and the other organisations working for refugees, such as the World Food Programme – above all to ensure there is funding made available”.
The Goodwill Ambassador, who was greeted at Kakuma’s dirt airstrip by local Turkana tribeswomen, was given an enthusiastic welcome wherever she went in the camp.

No good deed is without its challenges as is the case with the second scandal at Oprah’s school. AJ established a school in Kenya where the girls were praised for their self-esteem and sense of worth. They wanted to be Doctors, lawyers and get a higher education.

n a decidedly upscale version of “what I did last semester,” Katie Bunten-Wren of Eliot, Maine, discussed confronting scorpions, poisonous snakes and, more importantly, the plight of refugee Sudanese women, in a presentation of her research “Drawings of Dreams: The Power of Women’s Education in Kakuma, Kenya,” at the annual Tanner Conference at Wellesley College.
Studying adolescent self-esteem wasn’t Bunten-Wren’s initial intent when the Wellesley senior headed to the three-month Kenyan program at the School for International Training. The psychology major’s first two months were spent as planned, living with a “home stay” family, and taking courses in development in health and cultural studies. The last month was set aside for her research in the field, supported by the Windle Trust agency.
