Zac Efron shows off his shiny new statue — the Breakthrough Performer of the Year Award — at the ShoWest awards ceremony at the Paris Las Vegas on Thursday (April 2) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
At the event, the 21-year-old actor told EW why he turned down the role of Ren McCormack in Footloose. He shared, “I’m sure Footloose would have been a huge challenge but the actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets. That’s what’s always going to appeal to me: the unknown.”

Great for him! He did a very smart thing with footloose, which he needs to repeat with HS2 but we’ll see when the time comes. He has made great career choices and he actually has a wonderful personality. Can’t wait to watch him go places.

Never heard of the award he just won. Besides he’s pretty much Disney and no grown-up roles will change that. Although I must admit he was mighty fine in HAIRSPRAY, which was a truly super movie with really talented actors.
