Zac Efron Covers ‘GQ’ May 2009
A shirtless Zac Efron holds himself up on a parking meter in this sexy new shot for the upcoming May 2009 issue of GQ.
The 21-year-old actor, who hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend, is described by the mag as having “muscle-ropy arms”, “Japanimation-character bangs” and being “cute as a damn button.” Here’s what Zac opened up about:
On doing community-theater productions as a kid: “It was the worst possible thing you could do in high school. Kids who are in musical theater tend to be self-confident in a quirky kind of way, and when kids who are really self-conscious see somebody doing that kind of thing, they try to bring them down. I used to do random things, man. When I was a kid? I dyed my hair silver, to look like Sisqó in the ‘Thong Song’ video. I just didn’t give a f—. I didn’t care.”
On the entertainment business: “It’s crazy, all the stuff that happens down there. It’s the American dream. I mean, it’s beautiful. But it’s so f—ed up. Up here, everything’s green. And down there, it’s crazy.”
On why he chose to do 17 Again, which opens this Friday (April 17): “It’s very transitional, y’know? I didn’t wanna alienate the fans that had been around for so long. The fans, who’ve been around for so many years.”
On the rumors that he wore false eyelashes: “If somebody can find any photo that
shows me wearing false eyelashes, I will give them a f—ing million dollars. That’s bulls—. (pauses) You know what, dude? A couple of times, when I was young, and I didn’t know what the f— I was doing—it’s just what happens. Somebody’s there, and it’s their job. And
they load you up with makeup. They don’t do the girlie thing, but they, y’know, cover your zits. It didn’t come from a self-conscious place—it was just what everyone did. And since then, people just constantly think I’m wearing makeup. It’s a recurring theme. But f—, man. I have never worn false eyelashes in my entire life. (blinks a couple of times) That’s all me.”
On rumors that he and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens were getting married in Kauai (he attended his manager’s wedding): “That was such bull—. I’m definitely not getting married. In this business, you’re either getting married or they want you to be pregnant. I’m not getting married until I’m 40. If ever. The thought never crossed my mind.”

I don’t doubt that he is trying to trans into more adult parts. But stop complaining about being taken as a pretty boy, than do a spread with your shirt off. You have to say F&^* them, and your fans, and move on. Your still catering dude, admit it.
i love you zac but come on, you just lost A LOT of your class by saying all of those swears. I’m really dissappointed, but hey, you’re still smokin’ hot. so that’s a plus. i love you.
he sure does curse a lot!
and he’s not getting married until he’s 40?!?!!
…
im holding him on to that :]
I am not impressed. He sounds like a tool.
when he made that last comment about not getting married until he’s 30 or 40 or watever, he probably doesn’t mean it. i think he’s just trying to get a point across that he isnt going to get married like tomorrow..
in MY opinion, i think he’s just trying to throw the world off by saying he won’t get married until he’s 30 or 40, so they will stop speculating and will soon forget about it..then he might end up getting engaged like next year or watever. maybe he’s waiting until vanessa is 21 ..who knows….becasue we definitely don’t .
all i know is that he is definitely changing
come on. who DOESN’T say the f word?
he’s just real. he says what he thinks and that’s it.
JJ deliberately left off the last part of the marriage comment:
And then, after a few seconds in which he maybe calculates how this is going to sound to the girlfriend he doesn’t talk about having, he says:
“Maybe not 40. Maybe not until I’m 30.”
#57 yeah thats the thing i was about to post..
30 is okay! and this is not popstar or BOP .. he can be free to talk like the way he wants.. no disney or kids pressure
gosh someones dropin the f-bomb
easy on the f bombs zac?
O.o he said ALL that, didn’t he?
i thought he was a respectful man.. or should i say boy?¬¬
Hey Jared, can you post the Evan Rachel Wood photos and feature?? Thank you!!
i dont…
Oh my?
The cursing and some of the comments seem to contradict some of the other personality Z has shown lately. Can’t put a finger on it, but some of his comments just seem different.
Glad I took time to read the whole article though. As a Zanessa fan the “I’m not getting married til I’m 40, if ever” comment just brought me down in the dumps. The last line of the interview brought me back up just a touch!
Good luck Zac!
#39 I’m kinda agree with you…
he changed a lot…
no he hasn’t, this is just the first interview where he is allowed to be himself! the interviewer spent the whole day with him and i’m sure he said a lot more than what was in the article, the interviewer just picks and chooses the more controversial things because IT SELLS MAGAZINES
you are all reading far too much into it. zac is 21, hes allowed to swear as much as he likes and if he doesn’t want to get married until hes 30/40 then its not a big deal!especially if it means getting rid of vanessa hahha i hate her
Wow, even Chris Brown looks like a teddy bear before this..
i thought he knew how to control his mouth…
im so proud of him
he’s throwing f bombs cuz he wants to make the stupid rumors clear!
Does he know how bad it sounds?
GOODBYE GOODBOY IMAGE!
Those who are offended by the cursing in the article, grow up! GQ is an adult publication, not a magazine that caters to a young audience like Bop. He’s 21. A lot of adults curse. Even the interviewer uses curse words in the non-quoted parts of the article. As other posters have pointed out, Zac was probably told by the interviewer to feel comfortable in talking the way he wants, instead of in the sanitized manner that is required for other media outlets such as television. That doesn’t make him any less of a gentleman or good person. Consider the context before you make any judgments.
wow i know he is an adult and he can say wat ever the “F—” he wants but he really does sound stupid and i would never trash on him so ppl, dont say im hatin on him…..it made me kinda sad when he was like im not getting married until im 40 IF it ever crosses his mind…..
My lord, even big stars know how to speak…
For real who cares if he saids the F word!? He’s a 21 year old guy and doesn’t work for Disney anymore. I have a 20 year old brother and he saids the F word all the time. Does anyone around him think he’s saying it just to sound “cool?” Heck no, it’s part of being a human and I can tell you for a fact Zac was never that all American Disney boy the press wanted to make him out to be. He’s a good guy and always has been but I can tell you right now he’s NEVER been that little Disney boy people wanted to make him out to be. Let the guy grow up, he’s not a kid anymore and never well be again. Live with it.
P.S. God damn he’s looking good latley. He really is growing up like in the looks department. He’s not looking like a teenager anymore.
No surprise to me about the cuss word. Seems I’d heard somewhere that he does cuss, like most 21 year olds do and like, I’m sure a lot of Disney kids do, but you’ll never hear them quoted in interviews since most are under the legal age. Like he said, he wants to shake things up and do something cool that will be surprising…LOL…I think he’s got that covered already.
As for the marriage part, I’d be extremely shocked if any 21 year old guy in the entertainment world would say he was ready for marriage. Good luck to Zac no matter what he decides.
