OlderZac Efron Covers ‘GQ’ May 2009
A shirtless Zac Efron holds himself up on a parking meter in this sexy new shot for the upcoming May 2009 issue of GQ.
The 21-year-old actor, who hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend, is described by the mag as having “muscle-ropy arms”, “Japanimation-character bangs” and being “cute as a damn button.” Here’s what Zac opened up about:
On doing community-theater productions as a kid: “It was the worst possible thing you could do in high school. Kids who are in musical theater tend to be self-confident in a quirky kind of way, and when kids who are really self-conscious see somebody doing that kind of thing, they try to bring them down. I used to do random things, man. When I was a kid? I dyed my hair silver, to look like Sisqó in the ‘Thong Song’ video. I just didn’t give a f—. I didn’t care.”
On the entertainment business: “It’s crazy, all the stuff that happens down there. It’s the American dream. I mean, it’s beautiful. But it’s so f—ed up. Up here, everything’s green. And down there, it’s crazy.”
On why he chose to do 17 Again, which opens this Friday (April 17): “It’s very transitional, y’know? I didn’t wanna alienate the fans that had been around for so long. The fans, who’ve been around for so many years.”
On the rumors that he wore false eyelashes: “If somebody can find any photo that
shows me wearing false eyelashes, I will give them a f—ing million dollars. That’s bulls—. (pauses) You know what, dude? A couple of times, when I was young, and I didn’t know what the f— I was doing—it’s just what happens. Somebody’s there, and it’s their job. And
they load you up with makeup. They don’t do the girlie thing, but they, y’know, cover your zits. It didn’t come from a self-conscious place—it was just what everyone did. And since then, people just constantly think I’m wearing makeup. It’s a recurring theme. But f—, man. I have never worn false eyelashes in my entire life. (blinks a couple of times) That’s all me.”
On rumors that he and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens were getting married in Kauai (he attended his manager’s wedding): “That was such bull—. I’m definitely not getting married. In this business, you’re either getting married or they want you to be pregnant. I’m not getting married until I’m 40. If ever. The thought never crossed my mind.”

I hope someone will tell him that swearing does not make people think you are grown up, Just look at the posts here. Phrases like ‘thats what teenagers do, they curse alot’ . Reminder! Zac is 21 and wants to be looked at as an adult. Cursing alot makes you look dumb not smart or grown up.

lonnie, Yes JJ left it out but does it make a difference. It was just Zac back tracking because he thought his words were too harsh. His first statement was his true thought.

HE’S TRYING TO HARD AND NEEDS TO STOP
I don’t think this interview is legit, meaning i have seen many interviews of Zac, and he doesn’t curse like this. I have a feeling everything what he said may have been right, but the way the magazine re wrote everything in a fabricated manner. Because if Zac does curse like this, then every magazine i read should have a curse word in there. I mean GQ usually does this, and so it’s not new.
Maybe this is just a side of Zac that everyone doesn’t know. I don’t know. He seems to be confusing a lot of people with all of these different personalities. Although I think in some of his recent interviews, he comes across as being insecure. I feel like if he can’t get it together soon, he’s not going to make it in the business. He needs to learn himself and figure out what he wants to do career wise. Some are saying he’s making wise career choices but I just see him making a *#%$ out of himself. He’s becoming more of a disaster everyday. I hope he becomes more self confident before he does something really stupid just to get noticed in the industry!!!!

Well i hope he doesn’t truly mean the “i’ll get married when i’m 40 if ever” part cause thats just sad. He doesn’t want to start a family… until he’s practically middle aged? And how could he have not thought about it! He’s been with the same person for over 3 if not 4 years. He can’t honestly say he never pictured it. Well i guess he can if his answer is the truth.
If so then i hope Vanessa either feels the same way or ditches him. I do love this couple but if that’s how long it’ll take him to want to literally settle down then see ya. At least he’s not sleeping around with everyone and is in a solid relationship. But then again that doesn’t say much with his answers.
The swearing was… odd but didn’t bother me THAT much. It was just different i guess. I rather have him actually talk like that then be putting up a ‘i’m a tough ADULT’ front because thats just being fake and too many people in this business are fake.

It bad enough fans( and haters) over analyze every picture and every interview. Zac and Vanessa do not want the public involved their relationship. The only person who knows how if Zac wants to get marry is Vanessa.
From the snips of the interview, he sound like he was frustrated with all the rumors and speculations that he and Vanessa have to deal with, and is probably tired of the interviewers asking him about them.
Even though he is my age he is such a baby still. Him using the f word is so weird and as much as it’s used in the article it’s like he’s trying to break away from his squeaky clean Disney image. Efron will never be a bad a**… I have to say I like the Rob Pattinson GQ better. He might be a teen heart throb but that was on accident at least he can do a movie like Little Ashes and be looked at as a serious actor Efron can’t do anything none tweeny… That’s my opinion though…

Pop86. Zac could have chosen to not comment, instead of coming across as an ass.
The interview showed how hardworking Zac is and how determined he is to get to his goals. I like how supportive his parents are, and how they have instilled in him a realistic expectations - like expecting to fail in the auditions. Such grounded upbringing is serving him well as he doesn’t let the craziness, publicity and fame get into his head.
There are a lot more things said in this interview than this marriage response, which he clarified to say later on, at age 30. If you know his background, then note this - his parents were together and didn’t get married until he was 11 or 12.

The swearing doesn’t bug nearly as much as the stuff about marriage. You’ve been with this girl for almost 4 years and you’ve never ever thought about it and don’t want to get married until 40, if ever? Ouch. Dang, I don’t even like babyV and I felt bad for her. Way to reconfirm what the mega-haters already suspect about her and your relationship, he could’ve possibly phrased it in a way that made it seem like V was more than a slam piece until he grows up and decides to find a wife. Kinda makes her look pathetic to go support him and his career and he goes and says stuff like this.
Zac told in this interview that Leo adviced him to stay away from heroin. It ruins everything.My doubt: the all other stuffs, can he use, Leo? hahaha
We have heard so much about his strict upbringing, did his parents allow this kind of cursing or is this his way of rebelling at 21? I had a hard time taking his interview seriously, somehow all the cursing and checking out other women, along with the never getting married comment got in the way for me. And his back tracking comment on marriage at 30 seemed him just trying to cover up.
wtf? When has this kid ever cussed? Hes trying to sound cool, but he sounds like a wannabe. And he kinda sounds like a total a$$ in this interview, very disapointing. And I am not oposed to cussing, but he said the F word so much in this one interview, and he has never said it before, so that sounds to me like hes a badass wannabe.
