Bikini-clad Vanessa Hudgens ain’t in High School anymore–she’s graduated to an Oscar appearance, a new movie role (Bandslam) and she’s got 25 things to share that you don’t know about her.
Here’s just five of the 25 things in the May 2009 issue of Self Magazine.
On one of her fave celebs: “I’m in love with Angelina Jolie. Everything she does, I adore.”
On her favorite animal: “I love snakes. I think they’re sexy. Not in the wild, of course, but pet snakes.”
On where she wants to take her acting career: “I’d like to do an action film where I could kick someone’s ass. I want to be strong and empowered. I want to shock everybody.”
On the craziest she’s ever eaten: “A fruit bat — specialty in the Seychelles islands. They cooked it in red wine. It was really, really dark, grainy meat. It was quite frightening.”
On what her dad passed down to her: “I have really strong legs. I inherited them from my dad, who has tree stumps for legs, basically. I’ve got big calves that look good. When I wear heels, it looks like I’ve worked out my legs a lot, which is why I love them. I also have a big, big big toe. I call it my goat toe. I can climb anything.”
Vanessa’s on-and-off-screen boyfriend, Zac Efron, is on the May 2009 cover of GQ.

Behind the Scenes: Vanessa Hudgens cover shoot!

She may have just graduated High School (the musical, that is), but Vanessa Hudgens is an A-lister on the rise. When SELF met the actress at her May cover shoot, we loved how down-to-earth and approachable she was - and how excited she was to be there! (Unfortunately, her boyfriend Zac Efron didn’t make an appearance.) Watch our exclusive behind-the-scenes footage to see what went into making this month’s cover.
Vanessa told us all kinds of things about herself, twenty-five of which made the May cover story! (Sound familiar? You probably did your own version of 25 Things on Facebook. At least, I did…) Did you know she loves snakes? Or that she wants to kick butt in an action movie? Well, now you do. And you can learn even more about this super-sweet star in the May issue of SELF, on newstands April 21.

Vanessa graces the May 2009 cover of Self magazine, reveals 25 new things about her and reminds us of why we love her so much, why she stands out and why she should be on that cover.
Striking a playful and sweet yet subtly sexy pose, she epitomizes the sheer joy of being a woman, healthy and full of life.
Of being spontaneous and uninhibited in expressing herself, original, imperfect, quirky, sultry, free-spirited, passionate and confident.
Only Vanessa can name her big toe, find snakes sexy, speak unabashedly about her legs, and refreshingly tell it like it is without any thought of how it would be perceived or who to impress.
She speaks of her career aspirations, of wanting to star in an action role a la Angelina Jolie. She clearly has the body and talent to do so. Director Zack Snyder recognised that and offered her a role in his much anticipated Sucker Punch.
With that as a stepping stone, she can go on to develop her talent further, and steadily but surely, build up a solid resume. Solid achievements take time and patience.
She clearly does not take herself or life too seriously and is therefore able to relax, appreciate the ridiculous and always find something to laugh about and enjoy, whatever else is going on around her.
You would think that she would have gotten the memo that there are a lot of psychic naysayers obsessed with prophesying doom about her career prospects. They’ve ruled that she has no future outside HSM but are as addicted to news about her as cocaine addicts are to cocaine.
The naysayers are like angry waves hurling themselves unsuccessfully at an unbeatable rock, she remains unfazed, exuding a quiet strength that will not be worn down, a determination that is neither brash nor forward nor forced, an essence of grace and poise that can not be shaken.
Her strength lies in quietness and confidence; she rarely acknowledges unfounded criticism, neither does she attempt to defend herself nor make overtures to anyone.
She refuses to jump on to the popularity bandwagon, attempting to be all things to all people in order to be liked by everyone.
She’s chosen freedom to be natural and be herself over the desire to be liked and accepted. She doesn’t need that kind of affirmation or hype. It might take time but she’ll get where she wants to be, enjoying the process of getting there without losing herself.
Vanessa’s self-esteem is inherent; it has nothing to do with public opinion about her or the impression she is making on anyone.
She is who she is and will remain so irrespective of what people think, or what they expect her to be, or what they say. That’s the best kind of freedom, and sense of self.
That’s why she deserves to be on the cover of a magazine that celebrates self.

Love this young lady!! The cover is awesome, she is a natural beauty indeed. I find her articulate in her own way and loved that success has not got into her head and always keeps grounded. I am already having fun reading this 5 unique things about her what more the next 20!
Yup, I can’t wait for her to strut her kick ass move in Sucker Punch, seeing what she did in Thunderbirds, so I have no worries that she can play the role well in this action flick.

It’s truly pathetic how bitter and shallow some of you people are. You act like you know this girl personally. It’s both sad and hilarious how she has so much control over you that you’d send so much hate her direction. It just goes to show why she’s a somebody and you’re a nobody. No, Vanessa isn’t the most talented actress in the world, but at least she didn’t sit on her ass all day wondering “what could’ve been” and hating on those who made something of themselves. Her fame is warranted in every hate filled comment posted here or anywhere else on the web.
