Russell Crowe as Robin Hood — FIRST LOOK
Here is the very first picture of Russell Crowe in Robin Hood, the upcoming flick which reunites the 45-year-old Gladiator star with director Ridley Scott.
“He doesn’t have the old Robin Hood tights,” producer Brian Grazer tells USA Today of the bandit’s updated wardrobe. “He’s got armor. He’s very medieval. He looks, if anything, more like he did in Gladiator than anything we’re used to seeing with Robin Hood.”
“Oddly, it’s a metaphor for today,” Grazer adds. “He’s trying to create equality in a world where there are a lot of injustices. He’s a crusader for the people, trying to reclaim some of the ill-gotten gains of the wealthy. That’s a universal theme.”
Robin Hood is set for a 2010 release and also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian.

Yeah the original script was definitely more of a romcom.
Keep up with some previous interviews abut this movie - it’s not the same ol’ Robin Hood and actually turns the tale on it’s side. So if you’re thinking OH MY GOD WHY DID THEY PICK RUSSELL CROWE, relax - it’s going to be an intelligent person’s ‘retelling’ of RH but different.
He looks great, he got back in shape.
His Maximus days are looooooooong behind him…I’m getting a Anthony Hopkins vibe from him now. Great actor, but his looks are shot to hell!
Thank goodness he lost all that weight. He looks so much better when his hair is cut short like this. I’m not excited about another Robin Hook. Kevin Costner ruined it for me years ago. I will see it on DVD. But Russell does look good in that pic.
I just hope this will be the LAST LOOK of him too, folks!!
OMG,he looks sooooooo HOT! He looks good again when he lost weight and cut his hair. I’m so happy he is playing Robin Hood. Go Russell!!!
he lost a lot of weight thank goodness, he was once hot then he turned into a fata$$
Nobody is waiting for another boring Robin Hood movie, sorry.
You sir are no robin hood.
@billy: Speak for yourself because I for one am looking forward to this movie after seeing this picture. Russell Crowe is a credible and Oscar winning actor just like Cate Blanchett. This movie will be great!
I think Russell Crowe is a fantastic pick for this role…as the interviews have stated, this film will take the Robin Hood character in a whole new direction…until we see the finished product, it’s difficult to make a judgment call…this could be brilliant (or it could be terrible)…
But I have to comment on how Russell looks- he looks fabulous! Lost the weight and cut the hair…maybe he’ll never look like he did in Gladiator, but this pic shows much improvement from how he looked in Body of Lies…
Looking forward to this film actually…
He is the perfect example of how his off camera antics & “I’m a serious actor” bit deflects from his talent. I’ll wait for the DVD.
xo

i love russel crowe and i like ridley scott, but i’m not convinced about this movie. crowe doesn’t really strike me as robin hood. then again, you can’t judge a movie based on a single pic.
He always makes little boy characters more manly
He looks SO much better than he’s looked in a very long time. I just saw State of Play and he looked just horrible. All concerned made a mistake by having him look so awful as it was distracting….instead of thinking about the plot I kept thinking ‘how could RC let himself go like that’ or ‘how could I have ever thought this man was handsome’, etc. In the Robin Hood picture he looks slimed down and I like the haircut. I hope he eventually does something about those raised moles all over his face. Ewan McGregor got his taken off as have a few other movie stars. It’s time for RC to get rid of his. Again, stuff like that is too distracting.
I’d rather turn on the DVD and watch Robin Hood: Men in Tights again.
That concept was convoluted and idiotic, #22.
Crowe’s aging terribly. You can’t indulge the way he has and not have it punish your body. Then again it could just be bad genes. But he’s only 45? C’mon. That’s not a good 45.

Let’s see which actor shows up for this one: the good Crowe or the overrated mediocre Crowe with a dozen acting tricks up his sleeve.

This was never supposed to be a romcom.
too fat!!
I can’t wait to see Russell on screen with MARK STRONG again. (Body of Lies)
Hint Hint Jared! Pics of Mark on the set would be NICE treats too.
Oh yeah!! I agree with #46!! Please Jared??
Eeew… I like Russel Crowe and Cate Blanchett but seriously??!! Marian and Robin???!! Producers must be out of their mind. Jonas Armstrong and Kevin Cosner are the only two actors good for the job!
@KAy:
I can only image you’ve never run across Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn, let alone Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHaviland. I know there are more. Most of them British. Probably black and white. *ewwww* LOL
Ohhh… hot, yummy Russell is back. Hoorah.
