Rachel Bilson: InStyle’s New Fashion Editor!
Rachel Bilson has scored herself a monthly column as a fashion editor in InStyle.
The Q&A is called “Ask Rachel” and stars with the May 2009 issue (with Jennifer Garner on the cover).
“I am not planning on quitting my day job to be a full-time fashion editor, although I am really enjoying it and it intrigues me very much,” Rachel tells WWD. “I’m actually flattered more than anything that people want to ask me questions about style. I am honored to do it.”
She adds, “I can talk about fashion all day long, and I am an avid InStyle reader so the relationship seemed perfect! This column is the best homework assignment ever!”

No one’s style is ever going to appeal to everyone out there 100% of the time. I have to say though I love Rachel’s eclectic style and I’m always getting ideas from her for putting together accessories like scarves and handbags. And how to throw together jackets with other stuff. I like her every day mix and match casual style that you can wear most everywhere and still be comfortable.

I think it’s great Rachel is doing a column. A lot of people like her style. Chloe Sevenigy did a column for Elle Magazine and other actresses have also done guest columns for fashion magazines in the past. Good for Rachel.

I don’t think you guys know how big of a deal this is. She was asked by one of the biggest fashion magazines to work for them. Did you read that. Now, any negative comment that goes toward that can be nothing but hate. Do you know how many people read that mag? And they would not have asked her if they didn’t feel she wasn’t qualified. There’s just too much to loose. You don’t need to go to school to do something like that. All you have to do is know what you are doing. And know somebody. Personally I think RB would have really beautiful hair if she ever did something with it - even after leaving the hairdresser it doesn’t seem well-groomed. With her hair’s length and consistence she could wear the most special hair-creations. Liked the old-style-cuts of Drew Barrymore recently a lot, but also if wearing the hair all open one could do more than RB does or has done.

I agree with you about the hair thing. Rachel could have beautiful hair if, she did something with it. To me. Her style of hair reminds me on a 12 year old girls. Just long and no style to it. Then, the red streaks she has dyed in her hair look nasty and cheap. If, she want’s streaking. Then, it should be more burgandy colored streaks in her hair and not orange red. I think she needs a trim or layer’s and leave her hair naturally curly. She has natural waves. Oh well. I would do something with my long mop too if, I had the money. I don’t. So. I have just long hair too. If, I had money I would have my hair defiantly coifed and styled.
I know a thing or two about style! I may not be rich but, my mom has tought me a lot and my mother in law has been to Robert Power’s modeling school in the day. My mother in law would be rolliing her eye’s at Rachel and being miss. Fashion editor. You don’t wear thick black tights and black heels with a strapless summer looking gown together. Rachel at the Jumper premiere in Tokyo is what I’m talking about. Plus, wearing tall boot’s with a skirt that barely cover’s her bum and wearing the boot’s without socks I imagine when she took the boot’s off. I bet her feet staaannnnkkkk!!!!! She sometimes dresses in low class and poor taste. This fashion editor thing won’t last long and pan out. Plus, She has the mind comprehension of a 5th grader. At least that is my take on her.

Zack Braff has tons of awesome sh*t. Watch something he’s done that’s worth it. The reason you gave me for watching that movie almost sounded a bit like an excuse. Lilly you’re just picking out two names of actresses. There are other well known actress who have represented less costly lines of cosmetics. Such as Halle Berry for Revlon and Drew Barrymore for Cover Girl.
There are other actresses who have written guest columns for fashion magazines. I posted this on the first page of these comments but Chloe Sevigny for Elle and also I believe Marie Claire has had guest columnist.
Everyone should do their research before passing judgement.
But I suspect it’s not about the truth here anyway it’s all about trashing someone.
Who is Chloe Sevigny? Drew Barrymore is cute but she is just another has been.
Revlon is a mediocre priced product but they’re an international powerhouse, Jergens Kao products is still budget compared to them.

VOR, really? I’ve seen SG, but only remember Rosario Dawson, Peter Sarsgard and Hank somethin. I loved that movie Hayden was excellent in it. I’m still a fan, sort of. His last three movies were so disappointing. I’m hoping one day the right script will come along and he’ll get to shine again.
It’s not that I hate RB. It just seems that he has turned into something different since he’s been with her. Maybe he’s happy who knows. You ever get a gut feeling about something? That’s how I feel about them. It’s the same feeling I got when my eldest brother (who’s was a successful business owner) brought home this girl that I got strange vibes about. My mom told me I was feeling negative because I was no longer his most important baby sister and that I needed to just let go of the envy and just be happy for him. Fast forward - he married her 3 years later - got divorced in 2 and she’s practically cleaned him out.
Not all marriages end in disaster like this, but a red alert went up for me when I heard/read (don’t remember how I came across this) that she said “I always get what I want”, no nice girl would say something selfish like this.

Chloe Sevigny became famous with a very hard to watch movie called “Kids” from a provoking director about the subject HIV. Remember I extra had to go see it in Switzerland back then as over here they did not even show it at theaters. Now they sometimes bring it very late at night on TV. It leaves you depressed but thinking - I would suggest it to all pupils of a certain age, as a warning.
What’s wrong w/ not liking her?! Just because that some insular mindsets fancy her doesn’t mean that the rest of the world should. Sometimes a celebritard “could have an imaginary skills, have a brain size like a pea or even have a face like a foot”, and still be (in)famous in Hollowood.

I have seen this movie many years ago but what I remember she was good in it, and it also brought her some acclaim from the critics. It’s not a movie I personally would watch twice but still worth being seen once IMO.
Chloe Sevigny does not have this “obvious beauty jumping in your face” to me but she has something you remember, she’s individual which is not a bad thing in times of plastic surgeons all over the HW-business. I admire people, especially women, who stay themselves in all of this, like e.g. also Sarah Michelle Gellar-Prinze for keeping her real nose etc. Look at Jessica Simpson or Kate Bosworth for example, I think it’s hard to not mix them up, and there are more like this, all seem modeled after one same type. And especially if somebody gets older, some “make-overs” (done in an operating room) start to turn against them very often. Have three actresses in mind here but don’t want to name them. ;-) Just think about women with no possibility anymore to move their faces anyhow natural. Takes a lot out of their performances.

To Lexie and Sharon, or anyone else who cares in regards to the Edie Rose line: HIlary Duff said on a morning tv talk show that she has a fashion line coming out with DKNY for the “fall 2009 and holiday season”. It is a limited edition. Rachel’s Edie Rose line was similar for the fall and holiday season of 2008. It sold out quickly online and was not ” pulled” because it has a dress in it similar to another designer’s dress. Fashion houses are very aware of the designs they put out and legality, there are many “knock off” dresses/outfits with slight differences made from famous designers to sell to the average person at prices they can afford. An example are the gowns similar to the ones stars wear to red carpet events that are created that can be bought at lower prices, these are seen on tv from time to time. Rachel’s line was a success because it sold out quickly oniine. Unless DKNY makes more, since it was a limited edition, there probaby won’t be anymore of this line. Watch Hillary Duff’s line this fall, I bet something similar will happen. She is popular, it will probably sell out quickly as well. Look online if you want more “proof”.

I never found one report of it being pulled. Like you said DKNY has a legal department and they would not make simple mistakes even with their limited edition lines. Gwyneth Paltrow has a line of clothes coming out too.
I must say RB’s (pr) agent/publicist does an “audacious” job of packaging up an empty canister and placing her like the bubbling champagne. It’s great to be able to understand someone when you peel off the layers of icing placed upon her by her agents & publicist. It’s finally great that the people are exposing the truth about this woman who seems to lack substance and tried to pass herself off beyond her true ability.
What the moral of the story? Don’t try to oversell yourself. People expect more from you but you can’t produce, do the job well, or carry off another fluff. People will begin to understand and see the truth and that’s where it hurts. So stop trying to be relevant at any cost, nobody respects that kind of fame!

RB is one of the most well-known untalented people attempting to work in Hollywood today. Thanks to her family connections and willingness to do almost anything that will get her some spotlight/media time she tried (and failed) as a fashion designer and was exposed as a fraud and design copier. It might not be illegal to steal someone’s design, change only one detail and then claim it’s yours, but EVERYONE KNOWS WHEN YOU’VE DONE IT. On your first run at trying to pass yourself off as a fashion designer it looks terrible like maybe you don’t have any creativity. Anyone that watches Project Runway in either US or Canada for even one season can see that her designs are not creative at all, no new ideas there or even different spin on old idea. It looks like 80’s New Wave meets Grunge in a Swedish Red Light district, five years ago. Now she’s trying to be a fashion editor for a supermarket $0.99 ragzine. I wonder who will be ghost writing it for her since anyone that looks at her pictures where she’s shopping wonders who wears the expensive things she buys. Clearly it isn’t her. She looks like a Wal-Mart special but with less style in putting the clothes together than a middle-school girl.

It’s clear to everyone who’s read RB’s interviews that she’s a complete airhead (recently called Zac Posen’s collection ‘fabulous shayt’ to a reporter at Fashion Week). Hayden isn’t working now and it’s all rumor until it’s printed in Variety. This is exactly like the other pictures he was supposed to be in during the last year or so (Poker Brat, Beast of Bataan, Crash Bandits, Necromancer, Tin Tin, etc. etc.) Nothing every came of the rumors. His career is almost destroyed thanks to the string of failures he did starting with Factory Girl (which he was barely in and terrible) and ending with the famously awful Jumper. He’s supposed to be pretty lackluster in the new Paul Walker film ‘Taker’s coming out next year and it’s a smallish part anyway (Thank God.) He was cast because (1) the producers wanted an additional draw and (2) he had a friend on the production who knew he needed a job. He’s also rumored to suck at the voice work he just completed. No suprise there as his voice has never been what he acted with. He’s a cryer and a whinger; that’s how he gets his emotional impact. He’s nothing without big blue eyes swimming with fake tears and his pasty face turning red with rage/hate/whatever.

Hayden is well known as one of the worst actors in Hollywood. Ever see ‘Jumper’? ‘Awake’? ‘Virgin Territory’ which was so bad it went direct to video? I can’t believe Hickenlooper would want to work with him again after ‘Factory Girl’, which was Sienna’s movie and Guy Pearce and he was awful every time he opened his mouth. Unless Hayden’s character only has about 5 minutes of screen time or only has to look good for a little while, Hickenlooper would be a fool to make the same mistake twice.

I have nothing against hc, but every time he gets cast, I get nervous that he will fail again. I agree with you on Chloe Sevigny. I like her! One film that was also hard to watch was, “Boy’s Don’t Cry” and “These Walls could talk” I loved her performance. I will have to check out “Kids”. She is defiantly a thought provoking actress and has a lot of ball’s. She is big on “Big Love” Series on HBO. I loved her in SG as well too. She is fiesty and say’s it like it is. She is not conventually beautiful in the face. I like her for that. She can act and is not your typical plastic cutie Barbie doll type of actress. I like Sarah Michelle Geller-Prinze too! I like the fact that Sarah kept her imperfect nose. Sarah is my idol b/c my nose is also kind of big. Having a big nose does not make you ugly! It gives you character! I love Jamie Lee Curtis too. I agree with both of you, it’s really very refreshing to see Hollywood folks keep their natural features. In addition to the ladies you’ve mentioned; I think Reese Witherspoon is another unconventional beauty, who despite her ordinary looks, has worked hard and is now one of the top ranking actresses around.

Uh, I remember HC getting pretty descent reviews for Awake. That movie was actually good. If you didn’t like it you are one of the few. If you don’t like him you had no reason to watch it anyway. “Boys Don’t Cry” I couldn’t make myself to watch, and I know I should have. Read a lots of good critics on that movie but also that it’s so very sad which scared me off. Maybe I’ll get the guts one day if I discover it on TV, I hope so.
“These Walls Could Talk” I’ve never heard about, but maybe it has another title in German? I will keep my eyes open for movies with Chloe Sevigny in them as I think she’s quite talented.

Thx, Gasol, for sharing that lovely pic of Hayden and Natalie. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in my opinion that pic clearly shows how much HC adored Nat at that time. If they weren’t a couple back then, they could have fooled us b/c his eyes and body language told another story. I guess you don’t know anything about the AmEx Black or Centurion card because Tove does have one and so do other people in HC’s family. There is no way Tove could ever hope to get one by himself because he doesn’t meet the income requirements. You can give a card to any family member you like so long as the person who was offered the original Centurion Card (and it’s invitation only, must spend at least $100-150K on AmEx per year, about $3000 annual fee, etc.) is responsible for the card spend on the family cards. HC could get one for RB no problem and he evidently has because she’s been shopping far more then she ever was before she met him and has done nothing but shop for the last year.
