Clay Aiken emerges from the Byron & Tracey hair salon with a stylish new do on Saturday (April 25) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The 30-year-old former American Idol contestant just shared an unreleased track called “Just You,” which was recorded around the time of his 2006 album A Thousand Different Ways. You don’t have to pay a penny for the track but Clay blogged, “I encourage you… I ask of you… that you make a donation to the Bubel/Aiken Foundation for how ever much you feel the song is worth. If you want to give $1… great. If you want to give $1000… GREAT… if you can only give $.05 … that’s fine too. It’s a tough time we’re living through nowadays.”

CLAY AIKEN - “HONOR SYSTEM” - 04/24/09
What an interesting afternoon! You have kept my attention longer than I thought possible. If only my homework in high school had held my attention as long, huh?
Lots of interesting questions today and lots of energy. One question in particular got me (and Jaymes) to thinking. “Clay, will you ever record … Just You?”
Well folks… truth is.. . I did. Long ago. As a matter of fact It was one of the first songs we recorded for the album A Thousand Different Ways. It was recorded before the label asked me to do the album of cover love songs and before the budget was officially approved, so I actually paid for it myself. Then, as I recall, when the decision was made to do the cover album, the label opened a budget for the album, but it did not include reimbursing me for songs I had recorded that did not fit the concept. So, here I have had this song all along that, to my knowledge, I own the only copy of. What to do with it.. what to do? Well, this evening (with some encouragement from Jaymes) I decided…. let’s just give it to them. Why not? We do have plans (which we will tell you about eventually) to be back in the studio and record in the near future, but until then… you might as well get a bit of something you haven’t been able to hear in a while. “New” music.
Now… here’s the deal. I want to give it to you because you deserve it. You’ve stuck by me and been patient for a long time. But, also, I really have to give it to you. Since I didn’t write it or produce it, I can’t sell it to you… but I hate to encourage getting music for free. You all have always been SOOOO ethical when it has come to downloading music. I know my fans are probably some of the most scrupulous in the country and I believe that you never steal music. That said… We are gonna do this on the “honor system”… Go ahead…. download the song. It’s yours. Share it with your friends. It’s free. But… I want to make it count for someone… so let’s make it count for tens of thousands of children in the US with developmental disabilities If you can’t afford anything for it.. then don’t pay… but… if you can… I encourage you… I ask of you… that you make a donation to the Bubel/Aiken Foundation for how ever much you feel the song is worth. If you want to give $1… great. If you want to give $1000… GREAT… if you can only give $.05 … that’s fine too. It’s a tough time we’re living through nowadays, and non-profits are hurting more than ever as well. BAF (which will soon be known by a different name) has had amazing success in fulfilling it’s mission, and is embarking on a long term plan to continue including kids in every aspect of life. But, it will continue to need help from all of us in order to make that possible.
Consider this track a “charity recording” …. donate whatever you can or whatever you are willing to… and accept our thanks.

Clay is looking good in those pix. Glad to see he’s in LA. Downloaded Just You and it is a nice song. Also made a donation. The BAF does good work with kids with disabilities. My son who is without disabilities, was at one of the BAF sponsored camps. He came home much more aware of what some disabled children have to endure.
He sounds great and this is a wonderful thing to do for kids.
I saw him in Spamalot and he was good.

One of the reasons Clay is so admired by friends and coworkers, without exception, is that he does walk the walk, not just talk the talk. Doing something for his fans is natural and he has a mission to help children have a better life.

Seriously, his last two CD’s tanked, he has no record label, and his “Best of Clay Aiken” debacle that was released March 31 barely sold 3,000 copies!! His publicist is working overtime trying to get people interested in him, but I’m sorry - I’m hearing the fat lady singing in the background because it’s OVER, Clay. Get a clue. Your singing career is OVER!! NOBODY, except the few Claymates still hanging onto the sinking ship, gives a hoot about you.
I think this was a very generous gift from Clay! Just You was a beautiful song that he sang in concert quite a few times and was loved by his fans. I hope that his generosity is rewarded by many donations to his foundation. It’s just like Clay to think of providing a summer camp experience for children with disabilities rather than pocket the money for this unreleased gem of a song!

Very impressive. Look at the grants they have gotten. Inclusion for kids with disabilities seems to be the focus of the org. Seems to me that this is a very worthwhile organization. Haven’t downloaded the song yet but anything with Clay Aiken’s voice is worth a listen.

@Lola: Good thing Clay learned how to handle bullies back in grade school. Clay has remained consistent in two things–helping children w/disabilities & appreciating his fans. The song is beautiful as is the man! I’m happy to support such a noble cause.
Love Clay, love the song, love the voice! Not only is Clay a GREAT SINGER, he is intelligent, articulate, caring and more. He was a Special Ed teacher before Idol and having worked for a school district, I can say that the special ed teachers I know personally are special people and Clay has that special quality also! They have to be to do the work they do!! As for the haters, the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Clay fans, isn’t that what Clay has advised us to do? Bullying is a direct result of the insecurities of the bullies themselves! People who are happy with themselves don’t have reason to spend time cutting down other people. When you let the bullies (haters) affect your attitude in any way, it gives them dominion over you, which is exactly what they want! By ignoring them, you will allow yourself to spend time focusing on things that make you happy. Clay fans, does that sound familiar? Last, but not least, besides putting in much time with the Bubel/Aiken Foundation for children with disabilities, Clay is a Unicef Ambassador. Love you Clay!! You have so MUCH CLASS!!

Thanks for the link to the charity ratings, Ginny. If you’d bother to read it, you’d see that the BAF has a very HIGH rating for EFFICIENCY & the only low rating comes from how much money they raise. Which means we should all be giving more to such an efficient, worthwhile charity! Kind of stuck your foot in your mouth, didn’t ya? :)
Ben, thank you for pointing that out. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation has always been praised for its ability to focus its funds on actual programs & grants rather than too much administrative or fundraising costs. IIRC, they only have 2 paid staffers, everyone else works voluntarily, including many of Clay’s fans. Yet they’ve been able to fund countless summer camps that are enjoyed by both disabled & abled children together, give grants to schools to hire teachers trained to work with disabled children in normal classroom settings & gift those who’ve achieved something special, like the autistic teen who made an award-winning film about his life or the grade-schooler who started a volunteer project where disabled kids were the workers rather than those being served. It takes a real lowlife to try to discourage people from donating to help disabled children. That would be you, Ginny - proud of yourself?

People should learn the facts about a subject they comment about. If you knew the subject here and what he does and stands for, you would not be saying these nasty remarks. Clay Aiken is a role model for a man who truly puts his money where his mouth is. He gives so much to so many people, not only with his music, but with his words and example. He inspires his fans to realize their own potential and do things in life that they never would have dreamed of doing on their own - such as, getting involved with charities, helping people whom they have never met, showing his total love and dedication to children with or without disabilities, etc. What other artist would have spent 8 hours on line with his fans answering questions from them, and then because he said we deserve it, surprised us by giving us this beautiful song - JUST YOU”. He is truly the MEASURE OF A MAN. That’s the name of one of his best songs and it fits him to a tee.

I am looking forward to seeing what is up for Clay. He was great in his starring role in Spamalot on Broadway.

Believe me, I am NOT following that loser. He and his dismal CD sales numbers were the joke of lots of web sites, especially AI ones; I came across the sales figures by accident. I think he now holds the record for the worst-selling AI contestant EVER with that last floater…LOL!! He just keeps getting worse. It IS fun to check in to see what the loser is doing (more like NOT doing) once in a while, though. It’s very entertaining to watch his cult followers falling all over each other, singing his praises, while he manipulates them. Just keep pulling the strings, Puppet Master Aiken, and the people who see through your act and know who and what you REALLY are will just sit back and enjoy watching the Claymate puppets dance. They never disappoint… LOL!!

That latest CD you keep quoting as tanking is one of those Playlist compilations that labels put out when artists leave them. just to make one last, easy, unpromoted grab for cash. Clay’s online fans didn’t bite to any great extent (who wants to give RCA any more blood money?) & no one else knew the thing even existed. One point you haters forgot to make is that there were about 20 Playlists of many great artists released that week & Clay’s was THE HIGHEST SELLING ONE! HAHA! Someone better tell Brad Paisley he has no career because his Playlist “tanked” bigtime. LOL!
