Globe-trotters Brad and Angelina settle into the ‘burbs on Long Island

Over the past few years Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have happily set up home in New Orleans, the bustling seaside resort of Swakopmund in Nambia and the French countryside in Brignoles. Now the globe-trotting couple, who seem to be able to adapt effortlessly to each new environement, have taken to life in the suburbs. Residents of the Long Island commuter town of Oyster Bay report that the couple, who are based in the community while Angelina completes her latest movie Salt, have settled in just fine.

The 33-year-old actress and her partner - who are renting an expansive house overlooking the town’s bay - have been spotted picking up donuts for breakfast in town and doing their own shopping at the local grocery store.

Shop manager Katherine Pastore spotted the couple and their daughters Zahara, four, and Shiloh, two, immediately. They stood out, she says, “because they were so beautiful”.

The Tinseltown stars apparently acted like regular customers, strolling the aisles, each pushing a daughter in a shopping trolley. Items on their shopping list included pre-sliced watermelon, nuts, tuna, and toys.

“They were very attentive with their kids,” adds Katherine. “Brad was rubbing Zahara’s back and Angelina was comforting Shiloh when she got a little upset. It was sweet.”

Another local says everyone who has interacted with the famous family has described them as friendly. “The reaction across the board seems to be, ‘Wow, they’re very nice people’. It seems that people like them and like having them here,” he reveals.

MTV teen angst is funny

For the most part, we can’t argue with People’s 100 Most Beautiful List for 2009. We certainly do think that guys like Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron are beautiful — no, actually, hot. And let’s not forget dreamy.

And, yes, we cannot argue with the fact that Angelina Jolie, Frieda Pinto and Disney stars like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are very beautiful, strong women with amazing careers and boyfriends.

When we initially glanced at the list, we saw the name Jonas and thought, “Well, obviously, the Jonases are beautiful and totally deserve to be on this list. They are an uber-successful pop act, and it would be strange if they didn’t.”

But there was one thing that was not rational about this: The editors over at People may have forgotten a Jonas Brother! And, no we don’t mean 8-year-old Frankie. Nick and Joe managed to make the list, but, the eldest Jonas, Kevin, didn’t. It just seems weird that only two thirds of the world’s cutest pop act would be named Most Beautiful.

Well, you know what? Kevin, you made our list. You always do. To us, every Jonas Brother is beautiful.

‘God’ opening an upbeat Hot Docs

TORONTO — The world preem of “Act of God,” Toronto helmer Jennifer Baichwal’s musing on the metaphysics of lightning, will fire up Hot Docs on Thursday with 171 pics set to unspool over 11 days in North America’s biggest documentary film festival, confab and mart.

On May 6 and 7 more than 500 industry pros will attend the Toronto Documentary Forum (TDF), where 25 pre-selected projects pitch live to a roundtable of international commissioning eds. Expect a star turn from Christopher Hitchens in the pitch for “God Is not Great” (Magnolia), adapted from his 2007 best-seller.

***New sister event the Good Pitch on May 8 — co-presented by the Sundance Institute and U.K. pubcaster Channel 4’s Britdoc Foundation — will see five projects about human rights (including “Resilient,” exec-produced by Angelina Jolie) pitch to a large international panel of NGOs, foundations and charities.
