OlderHalle Berry is a Hollister Hottie
Halle Berry and her boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubry, go shopping at the Hollister store at Westfield Mall on Friday afternoon (May 8) in Century City, Calif.
Variety just did a piece on why stars can no longer insure box office profits.
“I went on a hike with a buyer the other day and asked (him) which actors he’d be willing to write a check for without knowing anything else about the project, and he only gave me one name: Will Smith,” says Brian O’Shea, executive VP of worldwide distribution at Odd Lot Intl. “There are still people out there, but the list is a lot smaller, and it really depends on the project. I think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can still greenlight a movie, along with George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Johnny Depp and a few others. But it’s not the same as it used to be.”

The studios count the bottom line, and the foreign box office is where the money is. That’s why they spend millions of dollars promoting their films overseas.

That Forbes list is interesting. The Jennifer Aniston fans like to deride Angelina Jolie as box office poison, but she’s sharing the #2 spot with Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, while Aniston is buried down at #55 along with Halle Berry and Hugh Grant.

I’ve always thought these two are an odd couple. They just don’t look connected somehow. I’m not puttting money on the rel’ship ending any time soon though. Gab though he has his own income can live much higher off the hog when coupled with her. I think, too, because he’s so much younger, and not an intellectual heavyweight, she has more control over him that her previous men. All my gay friends say their gaydar goes off when they see/hear him. Nothing wrong with having a child with a gay man, especially one so awesome looking as he is. Afterall, she was on Oprah years back, saying she’d love to reproduce with Nate Berkus. Very telling. I never bought their facade for a moment. I think they probably have a really close friendship as opposed to a romance.

I think that she was so much better with Eric Benet, she seemed happy although they had problems. They looked so good together. I’ve since read interviews and things from him and he seems like he was trying to work on his issues. I have to believe that Halle played a role in this as well. It’s no coincidence that she can’t keep a man but, Eric has been in a long term relationship with the same woman for years now. I honestly think the problem is with her if you ask me! She seems like a b!tch but tries to portray herself as sweet. She looks like she beats Gabriel’s @ss! Looks like she’s going to smack him in the head any minute!

As far as movies go, certain stars can only sell in certain genres. Angelina can sell a movie so long as she marketed as an action hero. Whenever she moves beyond that, her movies flop. Her earlier movies were bombs like Original Sin and Pushing Tin. Not blockbusters. And the Changeling dropped from the top ten after 2 weeks. Nicole Kidman is a better and far more versitile actress. She never plays it safe and sometimes she suffers for it. Halle has the same problem. She can’t be categorized as genre specific because her movie rolls are all over the place.

I think I will take the response from a movie exec on who they would put their money on over anonymous commenters. Bottom line is, you cant really gaurentee a box office hit these days no matter who the star is. I think this exec picked those names based on the variety of skills they bring to the table. Will Smith, Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise have been known for the major box office movies (although Tom hasn’t participated in one since “War of the Worlds”)…people like George Clooney, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman try to participate in ALL types of different roles regardless of the cost of the film and so do Brad Pitt and Angelina. Add to the fact that Halle Berry is the #1 black actress and there you go. They could have also thrown a few more names in there like Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Other then that, thats a pretty decent list. Just because some of the stars on that list have had a few flops means nothing, considering that everyone has had some every now and then, and all the stars that were mentioned are all ver established stars. As far as “Twighlight”, that is a teeny bopper film, alot of those people in that film (Rob Pattison and even now the girl that plays Bella) are now typed cast and are no way the type of stars to pull in a huge draw headling a film. The reason why the “Twighlight film” did so great is because it already had a strong following from the books…not because of the cast. They could have casted just about anyone in that and gotten the same results.

Halle Berry made $10 million for “Perfect Strangers” her last movie was “Things we lost in the fire” which was a small budget film and I wouldn’t expect her to ask for more money then what the cost of the movie cost to make…its no different then when Angelina Jolie only takes $8 million for that movie “Beowolf” because it was quick to shoot. Actors demand different amounts of money based on the type of movie…which is why there is a different actress/actor almost every year at the top of those lists. Its not rocket science. Halle made $14 million for cat woman and the X-Men movies, bigger budget films, bigger paychecks. I dont see actresses like Ann Hatheway (her last movie floped as well) or Katherine Hiegl (who tends to get on a lot of peoples nerves) getting $20 million dollar paychecks. It takes a certain type of star to demand that type of money.
Also, people kill me on here talking about these peoples relationship. Halle and her boyfriend have been together for years now…if they didn’t want to be together, they wouldn’t be together. They dont have to fake anything. How stupid is that? Only pathetic individuals would come up with that logic. Someone on here said she seemed happier with Eric Benet? Really? She seemed happier with a man that cheated on her with 20 different women to you? Give us all a break already. Did it ever occur to any of you that Halle and Gabe may not be smiling because they are being stalked by the cameras? Why would they be walking down the street smiling from ear to ear looking like two lunatics? Im over this…worry about your own relationships (if you even have one) and leave them alone.
Also I co-sign #69 ‘luciana’ comment…thank you for bringing some commen sense to this comment section when it comes to movie stars and how this exec came up with this group of names he would still write a check for. Its just commen sense…different stars bring different qualities to films, which is why he chose this variety of actors.
My goodness, I think I am just going to start just looking at the pictures on these blog sites and skip right over the comment sections. Because the lack of commen sens and downright patheticness of some of the people that comment is overwhelming. And its sad that some people in the world are so miserable that all they have to do is sit around and wish failure on someones relationship. My god, get lives! SMH
