OlderAnton Yelchin is Kyle Reese Ready
Anton Yelchin is on the brink of stardom and featured in the pages of VMAN magazine’s actor portfolio for its summer 2009 issue, on stands May 14.
The 20-year-old actor is set to be featured in what’s sure to be two of the summer’s biggest blockbusters. In Star Trek, he plays young Russian space cadet Pavel Chekov. In Terminator Salvation, he steps into the role of Kyle Reese, a character who is both the father and protégé of future-savior-of-humanity John Connor (Christian Bale).
“I hope these movies do well,” he frets. “They cost a s***-ton of money.”
Anton observes, “The opportunity to be an actor is the opportunity to experience so many things. You’re selling yourself short if you don’t don’t try as many characters as possible.”
FYI: Anton’s parents were both star figure skaters in their native country and fled the Soviet Union when he was 6-months-old.

oh yeah this kid. he got the up and coming a few years back, and he’s continually gone on to get decent roles in good movies. he’s not a bad actor either, and he’s not a hot mess, and he’s hot. good for him.
Aw, I remember him as Jacob in Taken, awesome series. He’s all growed up now and in amazing films. lucky.

He was also the kid in Hearts of Atlantis with Anthony Hopkins.
I don’t recall any “star” figure skaters from Russia with the last name Yelchin.
His parents were popular figure skaters in the 70’s and 80’s. Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin qualified for the 1972 Winter Olympics but were denied participation by the soviets because the couple was Jewish. They relocated to the US as political refugees. She is a skating choreographer and he is a coach now.

Anton has long been a favorite young actor since Taken. Other good examples of his craft are as a son of a gay dad in Jack and as a brilliant teen in the great, but shortlived, series Huff. Wasn’t he the Amish kid in that H. Ford, Kelly McGillis thriller years ago?
