Brooke Shields to National Enquirer: Shame On You!
Brooke Shields’s 75-year-old mother, Teri Shields, suffers from dementia and was reportedly checked out of a New Jersey nursing home Thursday by a journalist from the National Enquirer seeking a “tabloid story.”
Brooke, 43, said via a statement to People: “I intend to take every lawful action against all who were involved or who authorized this despicable act. My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me.”
The statement continued, “Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer … who falsely claimed they were friends of hers. They then drove my 75-year-old mother around looking for a tabloid story. As anyone knows who has a parent who suffers from dementia or Alzheimer’s, it is one of the most difficult experiences you can go through as a son or daughter. The idea that the National Enquirer took advantage of her state is reprehensible and disgusting.”
Teri was later found unharmed at a restaurant next door to an assisted living center. No arrests have been made yet but that the case remains under investigation.

And I’m sure she’s thanking her publicist that someone took her mother who suffers dementia away from her place of safety. You clearly don’t know anyone who has suffered dementia.
An absolute new low for the paparazzi. Shame on you. I hope Brooke sues the pants off them.
I am speechless. Whoever took part in this needs to be put behind bars for a VERY long time. That is about the lowest behavior I have ever heard of.
this is a new low for tabloid rags. A despicable breach of decency.
I hope that all who hear of this deplorable act vow never to buy NATIONAL ENQUIRER…. I never will. God bless Brooke and all who are tending to their frail and aging parents.

You don’t “clear it with the nursing home” like that. NE would first have had to clear it with Brooke Shields or another legal representative of her mother. Something stinks on ice.
When celebs are out in thepublic, with their kids or not, photos can be taken but not in their faces or under their skirts. when a celeb is in scandal, there are no limits in reporting their personal business(Kate Goselin), BUT THIS IS THE LOWEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheilds should sue the NursingHome, TNat.Enq., and the reporters and photographers PERSONALLY who did this. You know she has her mom in a top notch, expensive place, sooooooo, someone on staff at the nursing home took some pay and let these people take her mom. Iagree with #13
Iagree with #17 too. This is making me so sick to my stomach and I too, had a loved one with Alzheimers in a nursing home.
You do not have someone there because you want them there or they want to be there. they are there because they must have 24 hour care in a secure environement.
The nursing home and the tabloid magazine as well as the individuals that work for the magazine all need to be held accountable. This is ridiculous!
This is disgusting and makes me want to vomit. How dare they? This is just as bad as taking a little toddler from their playground. Both the elderly with dementia and an innocent child are not capable of fending for themselves. I would be furious. Who knows what they did to her? Terrible. I will never read the Enquirer - I never do anyway.
TAKE THEM DOWN!
Yeah, this is a very low move for the National Enquirer, but those who support such despicable behavior by purchasing the crap they consistently dispense are just as responsible. I have never in my life purchased a National Enquirer rag and never will.
This really sickens me. Both of my Grandmothers have/had dementia and it is sick that some one would take advantage of soemone like that!! It s hard enough to deal with the disease, and then have some one take advantage of it!
I hope the disgusting reporters, if you could even call them that, get sued for everything they have
This should be a wake-up call to anyone who buys, reads, or believes any of the trash tabloids like National Enquirer, Star, In Touch, or Life & Style. They are garbage and the people who work for them have no morals. They pay people to lie and now they have resorted to abducting a celebrity’s relative to create a story. Disgusting!!!! Of all the businesses that should shut down due to the recession the tabloids should be first to go.
Oh my god, that is disgusting and outrageous. I would be beyond angry. I would be beyond pissed. If something like that happened to me or anyone I know (or anyone I don’t know) I would feel violated to the bones.
These people need to be sued to fullest extent of the law. I cannot believe someone would do that to a sick woman.
Disgusting and outrageous and repulsive.

Anyone who still buys and read The Inquirer are considered low life scumbags. They should be ashame of themselves even for just reading that trash in a supermarket. The readers of this trash are accesories for their crimes
This is a case for the FBI and while they are at it, the FBI should investigate all tabloids. Shut them down
That is beyond disgusting and I agree 100% with Brooke Sheilds.
She has a case.
The best way to show your disdain for this type of behavior? DO NOT BUY THE MAGAZINE!
The nursing home would not have to have necessarily contacted Brooke Shields. For a vulnerable adult to be deemed to need a guardian, a legal process must be followed that includes examination by an attorney, and medical personnel. It also must go through the court system. This could have been in process, where Terri would still be her own guardian and be able to act as her agent in terms of telling the staff she wanted to go to lunch or to a doctor’s appointment etc. not understanding where she was being taken.
Conservatorship gives a third party the rights and responsibilities to make financial decisions on behalf of the vulnerable adult. In simple terms: Guardianship covers the physical person, conservatorship covers the assets of the person.
No one knows when she was diagnosed, what legal safeguards were being put into place etc. If These reporters gained Terri’s trust or told her she was going home and that Brooke wanted them to take her there, it is quite possible she agreed to go with them.
There is also the possibility that the NE forged documents.
wow that’s horrible. they should be punished severely for that
BROOKE SHOULD BRING KIDNAPPING CHARGES AGAINST THESE CRIMANALS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,SUE THE NURSING HOME ……..THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY THE NATIONAL INQUIRER,,,,,,,,,,,,THE PUBLISHER AND CALL ON CONGRESS OF THE USA TO PASS A LAW AGAINST THESE CRIMANAL TABLOIDS…………..THIS MUST END…………..PEACE
I hope she goes after the NURSING HOME!!! My dad had Alzheimers and the place he lived at would have never let that happen.
OMG, what **** head could do that…That tabloid should be buried up..hope Brook will get millions from them…
to the people who are saying things about the nursing home, there are different levels of care in nursing homes. If she is in assisted living, she’s free to come and go as she pleases, within reason. Maybe Brooke’s mom’s dementia isn’t so advanced that she would need to be in a locked/secure facility.
