Brooke Shields to National Enquirer: Shame On You!

Brooke Shields’s 75-year-old mother, Teri Shields, suffers from dementia and was reportedly checked out of a New Jersey nursing home Thursday by a journalist from the National Enquirer seeking a “tabloid story.”

Brooke, 43, said via a statement to People: “I intend to take every lawful action against all who were involved or who authorized this despicable act. My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me.”

The statement continued, “Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer … who falsely claimed they were friends of hers. They then drove my 75-year-old mother around looking for a tabloid story. As anyone knows who has a parent who suffers from dementia or Alzheimer’s, it is one of the most difficult experiences you can go through as a son or daughter. The idea that the National Enquirer took advantage of her state is reprehensible and disgusting.”

Teri was later found unharmed at a restaurant next door to an assisted living center. No arrests have been made yet but that the case remains under investigation.

Wow…a very disturbing story and prison time for kidnapping, et al., by those involved and the rag itself! Go Brook Shields and never give up until everyone is behind bars. In this day and age, you would think the place where she resides would have super security and, especially, for a woman who was a manager in the entertainment industry and where her grown daughter is still working.

Karma is a *****! I see everyone here is digusted and shocked at the paps behavior, but i say karma is a *****! This old woman used to pimp out Brooke shields to po*n companies when she was a child and had no one to defend her. What goes around comes around, that’s all i have to say. I feel sorry for Brooke cause its her mother and she loves her, but she wasn’t exactly mother of the year material, far from it actually.

@kaos:

Teri used to pimp brooke shieds to soft po*n companies. She was hardly an angel. I am sorry she’s demented now but she used to be a bad mom.

This is kidnapping and the two monsters who did this need to go prison, and the magazine needs to be sued. I can’t believe they left Teri in a restaurant, on top of stealing her from her home. Whatever the woman did in her past is irrelevant.

@The truth:

This is a disgusting shame and @kaos shame on you too.

this is the most disgusting thing i have ever heard. i hope those paps get the chair

I like how kathy griffin talks about getting drunk with shelds mom in her tv special, way to throw her under a bus, but I guess she has alcohol and mental problems, good luck to her.

#23 are you working for the NE?????????? A “Friend” of her mothers that Brooke does’nt know? Come On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those saying that Teri knew the reporters who were her friends, all I can say is - let the facts emerge. Teri was the mother and manager of Brooke Shields for many years and consequently, probably did know reporters.
.
But that doesn’t mean those reporters were her friends. Imagine if this “Friendly Reporter” shows up after not seeing Teri for years, then takes her out to run some errands. And this friendly reporter just so happens to work for National Enquirer, one of the worst tablies out there. Right, wouldn’t you be suspicious?
.
Also about Teri pimping Brooke out and now its her karma. Yes, you are right in a way. Cause and effect. Teri was Brooke’s manager and managed Brooke’s career. So, yes, she got to know these “reporters” because had she just been some single mother scraping a living together for herself and Brooke, no doubt, she wouldn’t have encountered any reporters.
.
But also seems to be Teri’s karma that Brooke seems to have escaped most of the problems of a child star. There’s no suggestion that Brooke was an addict to alcohol or drugs. She’s a mother of 2 beautiful little girls and been married only twice, this last one for several years now. She’s been involved in a few successful TV series and seems to have her feet firmly planted on the ground. So, Teri, in the process of her “pimping” her daughter, appears to have nevertheless done a good job raising Brooke. I would be interested to know which amongst you who have criticised her will do as good a job as a mother of your children.
.
Also, for those who say that Brooke should take her mum home. How do you know it wasn’t Teri who said she would rather live in a nursing home? I’m sure if I grow old and have an awareness that I’m getting dementia, I would prefer to be in a good quality nursing home then being a burden to my daughter, who has enough on her plate raising her own children and being a wife. It is very very stressful taking care of someone with dementia and no one should be criticised if he/she feels that he can’t do it in his own home.

I agree — the nursing home should have a list of who is able to check her out. The Enquirer AND the home should be sued. Sounds like it wasn’t a high-security place, which would make sense. Most nursing homes aren’t run like prisons.

As for those thinking that Brooke Shields is seeking publicity in this way, now we know who the low-lifes are who have kept the Enquirer in business all these years.

This is going TOO far! It is time that rag mags and the papparazzi are stopped, the stalking they do is criminal. Celebrities deserve privacy too, they are human beings just like us. I have never purchased one of those rags nor do I put celebrities up on a pedestal for worship. I simply respect and appreciate them for their craft and the ability to escape for a few hrs while I watch them on screen. I would go crazy if I had a camera in my face 24/7. I hope they are sued for crossing the line. It is ridiculous the way they get away with criminal behaviour. Enough already.

Hello, once again, always great to see your kind and sensible posts!

I totally agree — the person who said Brooke’s mom was taking her to soft p*rn companies is a creepy liar. Brooke was in commercials for Ivory Soap as a child, and later Calvin Klein as a teen, as well as in legitimate movies.
There are few people in Hollywood who have worked constantly from the time they were a baby, and have never had a problem. Brooke is universally acknowledged as a level-headed, good-hearted, highly intelligent, sweet person. The only time when she was not working for a significant length of time was when she attended an Ivy League college, and while pregnant. She has been acclaimed in movies, TV, and on Broadway.

If her success as a person and a professional is the result of a “bad mom”, who was also the neighborhood “mom” to lots of young people that Brooke knew, then we should all be so lucky to have Teri Shields as a bad parent.

remember da truth @ 05/17/2009 at 9:34 pm

By the way, did anyone bother to read the part where she said she put her mom in the home for “her safety”? Having a parent who is aging is not easy, particularly with a career and two children. An aging parent can be as much a full-time job as having a baby, and require full-time attention.
Brooke made a difficult decision, but the right one for her mother and for her to make sure that her mother was cared for properly.

Brooke you have the right to be angry, I took care of m father in law till he past a tough situation to go through..

It’s people like the soulless demons responsible for “The National Enquirer” that make this world an even shiittier place to live in than it already is.

@BROOKE JUST TAKE MOM HOME: “LIFE #10 WHY IS THAT STUPID… NO YOU WIN …!!! HANDS DOWN….
HER PUBLICIST IS BUSY…” #16 - Hands down, you are a moron. Brooke Shields is one of the last people most people would assume that PR is behind a story. She is notoriously private - hence the reason the NE would likely go to these disgusting extremes to try to find a story. The POLICE were involved for a reason, a.k.a., it was a true crime. Celebrity blogs have made you cynical. Might be time to turn off your computer for a while and give your little brain a rest.

Someone just told me about this incident and I was appalled.

My Mother, who passed away last August, had dementia, like Brooke’s Mom does. She lived with me and I was her care giver. If anyone took her out of the house without my consent, like this reporter did Brooke Shields Mom, I would have wanted them prosecuted for kidnapping, reckless endangerment and literally have the book thrown at them.

What is wrong with these reporters who are so greedy for a story that they would put a sickly old woman in danger? That’s exactly what this reporter did. The paparazzi has really over stepped their boundries when they pull stunts like this and think it’s OK to do so. They need to be put in their place for good!

I don’t blame Brooke for being furious. She has every right to be.

In my previous comment I forgot to add that Brooke should move her Mother to another facility. In addition to the Enquirer, the nursing home that her Mom is in should be held legally accountable and responsible for allowing an unauthorized person enter the facility and take Brooke’s Mom from the premises. It is also questionable that they allowed a strange person to enter the facility and visit Brooke’s Mom. Their lack of lack of judgement should be questioned. It makes you wonder what other forms of neglect are going on there. What a disgrace!
