OlderAngelina Jolie Spotlights Child Soldiers
Angelina Jolie attends the trial of a Congolese warlord charged with using child soldiers held at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, on Tuesday (May 19).
The 33-year-old activist said the case against Thomas Lubanga is a “landmark trial for children.” She continued, “Children deserve special protection. Using children in conflict is a heinous crime and destroys the very fabric of a society. I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him.”
One ICC attendee added, “I notice the petite figure which was supported by those shoes and that it was Angelina Jolie! She is much more beautiful in person than in any magazine or interview. If that’s what she looks like in print then she is not very photogenic… she spoke French to her colleagues.” More about Angie at Lauraware!
The United Nations estimates up to 250,000 child soldiers still fight in more than a dozen countries.

Jolie didn’t bring attention to anything other than to tip off those who had been following her drum beat for intervention in Darfur. U.S. Military intervention is just that, occupation by the U.S. government. Referring to it as “humanitarian” doesn’t make any less the full force of the largest military machine in human history.
Jolie was a cheerleader for Petraeus’ surge in Iraq. The total civilian casualty count in Iraq is over 60,000. Jon Voight has appeared on FOX news several times repeating the Bush/Cheney line. George Clooney and Brad Pitt have set up a non-profit which sole purpose is to demand military intervention in Darfur.
The problems of that region cannot be solved by more violence and foreign occupation.
Artists have always served a political role. The question is whether they are serving as agents of change or maintaining the status quo.
Given Obama’s saber rattling for war in Eritrea and the Sudan, one must wonder why these sort of photo ops are being pushed on the young people who read gossip websites and tabloids.

that’s probably the only thing you said that i thought was actually intelligent. you’re correct. especially if you listen to the majority of educated africans and ask them what they want. the las tthing we want is america coming in and thinking they can fix everything with military occupation…but like everyone and their mother has been saying their needs to be something done about all these situations. i mean alqueda is one day going to own sudan…and then where will all you americans be. there is a growing infiltration of milita in many african countries and it just seems like the international community is taking their time fighting false wars and discussing what their benefits would be if they went into a situation like darfur and decided to help out. there are many natural resources that americans can exploit…so lets go. i don’t see what the problem is really. i mean does darfur have to declare that they have oil to have the americans come to there or what.
also i have not been following the ethnic wars and the rise of military leaders in the congo or other parts of africa because of angelina jolie. i have lived in those countries and grown up being aware of those issues. i have to. in my country we had the same problem. and we will have more. you don’t know **** about me. so stop presuming. i hope you have fun educating yourself more about african conflicts and why other people in the world should care, because more often than naught the international community has proven time and time, including america, that they will only do things in their benefit only, but not for africans.
If you are going to “do a charity” for attention or kudos, you only do it for one telethon or one interview or one season, and sadly that is what many stars and celebrities do these days. They don’t even go to the field and get their hands dirty, they sit in their mansions and talk crap but don’t do the walk. AJ has been involved with these charities for almost ten years and gets involved in every aspect of them. If she were faking, surely she would have given up years ago!! So to those saying she is faking obviously have a few screws loose in their petty little minds. I have never heard of Thomas Lubanga. So AJ’s involvement has done what it was meant to do – bring these sorts of atrocities into the open to community for the attention of the wider world in general.
