Angelina Jolie Spotlights Child Soldiers

Angelina Jolie attends the trial of a Congolese warlord charged with using child soldiers held at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, on Tuesday (May 19).

The 33-year-old activist said the case against Thomas Lubanga is a “landmark trial for children.” She continued, “Children deserve special protection. Using children in conflict is a heinous crime and destroys the very fabric of a society. I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him.”

One ICC attendee added, “I notice the petite figure which was supported by those shoes and that it was Angelina Jolie! She is much more beautiful in person than in any magazine or interview. If that’s what she looks like in print then she is not very photogenic… she spoke French to her colleagues.” More about Angie at Lauraware!

The United Nations estimates up to 250,000 child soldiers still fight in more than a dozen countries.

Glad all is well with Angie.
This trial is an important one and I certainly hope that man is stopped now. I agree, using children in war is a disgrace to humanity.
All should worry about this issue.
Love that Angie.

Is her forehead growing or is her hairline receding?

WWD has a story on what Angie is RUMORED to be wearing to the premiere tomorrow. If you’ll remember Belstaff also made a few jackets for Brad for CCOBB…

CRYSTAL CARPET: Rumors are already aflutter in Cannes as to what Angelina Jolie will don for the premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious ********” — in which Brad Pitt stars — on Wednesday. Word has it the working mom is considering a red-carpet dress by Belstaff, the brand behind the military-style jacket worn by her beau in the movie. Belstaff, which fetes its 85th anniversary this year, is sponsoring the film’s after party at the Baoli Beach, along with The Weinstein Co. and Universal. The jacket worn by Pitt in the film will be on display, along with a range of Belstaff pieces due to star in upcoming flicks, including “Amelia” with Hilary Swank and “Public Enemies,” starring Johnny Depp.

Why is she there?

#######################

She is there to bear witness. Something that I am sure is lost on the likes of you.
.
She is shining the spotlight on these trials of which most people are unaware. That is her job. She does it wisely and to great effect. I am sure the UN campaign against child soldiers and the work to rahab these victims will see an upsurge in donations as a result of her attention. By helping children around the world she is helping her own children.
.
Further, these trials are absolutely fascinating. Who wouldn’t want to be there. These are similar to the post WW II trials.

Get lost and take your mouth with you.

Angelina Jolie is a great inspiration to all of us! Good job Angelina!
I am so proud to be her fan.

hopefully angelina will have her forearm on show tomorrow night so we can get a better look at the roman numeral tatt to see if angie has altered it in some way. at the moment the new mark is a kind of design, but i don’t think it is in permanent ink as some of it has rubbed away.

Thank you Jared. It is so nice that you are posting something worthwhile rather than the inane today!

Melissa,
Your comments are without merit.
What are you thinking?
Go buy your groceries and check the tabloids for your new ideas.

Alexanderina @ 05/19/2009 at 2:50 pm

@briseis:

ITAWU. I love watching them have a major meltdown

Melissa @ 05/19/2009 at 2:24 pm

What a sad pitiful person you are to make these comments. Why aren’t you doing something for these children?
AJ is a UN ambassador for refugees. She has been committed to their cause for almost nine years. Oh wait. She is just doing this for publicity, right? For nine years she has gone to some of the worst hell holes the world has to offer being an advocate for these kids…just so folks like you can criticize her and give her publicity–’cause after all even bad publicity from the likes of your small mind is better than nothing, right?
I suggest before you make stupid comments like the one you left that you get off your lard a-s-s and go over to Africa and check things out for yourself. It is easy to go over and volunteer in orphanages, refugee camps and the like. Just google volunteer Africa children or some such thing–I’m sure something will come up that will fit your mental capacity.

Angie rocks. No wonder Brad loves her so much. I can’t wait to see them on RC tomorrow.

considering that this recently got posted and there’s all these comments, i can tell the jolie is kinda popular. i saw this story on another site. well atleast she “doing” something…which is more than i can say for a lot of people who are in the same business. i doubt most of the people who have read this story circulating on the interweb know who THOMAS LUBANGA is, but i hope people take the chance to learn about him and learn about why it’s a really important set of issues even if it’s on the other side of the world. lubanga will not win this case, and i hope it will allow for more cases of people like him and all these rotten apples who are involved in using kids, mostly unlawfully for their own means. that’s why those guys who went to oprah to get hear about their invisible childrens website are important. we need more voices like that, or even celebrities who actually care to bring some of these atrocities that are happening to light. i mean anyone who has been following the news lately knows what’s been going on in sir lanka and the ltte and their use of child soldiers. lets hope for more successful trials at the hague.

BRAD HAS TO HAVE angie @ 05/19/2009 at 2:13 pm

Brad did it he is not famous without Angie .. She is the one that made
him famous..!!! She will always be attached ..Imagine if he showed
up alone at Cannes without her….Did the press line alone..while she
went back to NYC and finished her movie..

BRANGLINA WILL SHOW UP HE CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT HER..!!
===========
I know you love Jolie, but Angelina didn’t make Brad famous or vice-versa. If he showed at Cannes alone , he’d still get the royal treatment. They’re not a package deal, they each have accomplishments of their own. She does a great work, but so does Brad. It’s an important element of why their relationship works; they are both passionate about what they believe in and that’s each other, their children and people in need.

Alexanderina @ 05/19/2009 at 2:57 pm

Thanks PT, it would be interesting to see what she actually wear tomorrow to the premiere

She’s a complete moron. Looks like she’s pretending to take notes and acting concerned in the photos.

All you lazy posters need to get off the computer and travel to a third world country. It will educate you more than reading about actors who serve as infomercials for lazy internet bloggers.

thelookoflove1365 @ 05/19/2009 at 3:01 pm

Thanks PT for your tab report and for smacking those stupid ragz.

This is why Angie do not bother with gossip and not worried about other people’s perception of her. She got more important issues to focus on aside from her family. Anything else is just BS and not important to her. Rock on Angie, rock on!!!
.
This is why Brad has a lot of respect for Angie. Angie is truly invested and care for these poor children and their well being.
.
Thanks Jared for the pix and hello to all the fans!

also notice how i didn’t say anything about her beauty. it’s not her physical beauty that makes her so beautfil…because as we all know, her face is not the convetional face coveted by most people in the image making industry that is “fashion” or even advertising. it doesn’t mean i don’t like her. it just kind of concerning that people are all “oh bristol palin is my idol and that miss america girl is a hero”, and really who am i to judge…but sometimes i think people are kinda misguided. i’m not even saying that she’s a pure person whithout fault, but she “does” stuff. she does things that’s kinda important for someone like her in her stature. i hope people should note that and stop hating and being stuck on the whole she’s so much better than aniston. get over it. stop hating.

also lets give it up for celebs who actually do good things, like hilary duff doing that walk for AIDS. and yet people still hate her. why? what’s the point with the hating?

Our Angie. What a woman. Brad hit the jack-pot when he got with this one.

Jaye #64- Very true they compliment each other and that is why they work. They bring out the best in the other.

oh sorry for the double post. while we’re at it, lets talk about the use of child soldiers in the so called iraq war. our generation has the potential to be great, but there’s also a lot more things happening in the world that most young people could care less about. i mean we care more about celebrities and technological gadgets/apps that allow us to create bubbles around ourselves…but really there should be more emphais on social issues. gah.

remember da truth @ 05/19/2009 at 3:09 pm

You/Me #19

YOU ROCK!!
You’re right — I had no idea about this trial until Angie’s mere presence brought it to the attention of people. Angie speaking French to her colleagues — how cool is that?

She is an amazing woman of substance and she stared down that Labanga monster and let him know that the world is watching ……

dr zhivago @ 05/19/2009 at 3:00 pm

What have you done lately to help society? To tell you the truth, I haven’t done anything to help society either but I’m not here to criticize people that willing to help out. Therefore, cut the bs and you should get some education about the world.
