Clay Aiken To Adam Lambert: Sorry!
Yesterday, Clay Aiken bashed fellow American Idol contestant Adam Lambert’s rendition of “Ring of Fire”. “[I] thought my ears would bleed,” Clay wrote. “Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening!”
Moments ago, Clay issued an apology, saying, “Who knew I had so much influence and that my words and opinion mattered so much to so many people!?!?! HA HA HA I’ll be the first to admit that my opinion is just that, only my opinion, but for as much as some of the bloggers seem to dislike me and care so little about my thoughts, they sure can waste a lot of their space on what I say! If only many of them took the time to pay attention to important things like the US economy and the welfare of the world’s children. But… nah… I could blog about that type of stuff anytime and most wouldn’t think twice, but let me say something that they can pick and choose quotes and misinterpret me… and it’s showtime! I never assumed my opinion mattered so much! I guess I may have been wrong.”
He continued, “That said, since my previous blog got dissected like a biology lab frog, i suppose I should clarify and even retract some of what I wrote. I am sure that some were upset by my choice of words describing my opinion of a performance I heard from Adam Lambert. I hope no one actually believed that blood truly poured forth from my ears when I heard him. I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard. Any performer hopes that their music will appeal to all people, but no singer realistically expects it to. God knows, I am SURE there are PLENTY of people who can’t stand to hear me sing either. I wouldn’t dream of assuming that, and I am sure that far worse things have been said about my performances than I would even venture to type here. To me, that’s fine. I don’t expect unanimous, nor even majority support for my music. But, my guess is Adam doesn’t either. I would not venture to make judgements on the personality or demeanor of anyone I don’t know, so none of what I said in my previous blog was directed as a “slam” on Adam as a person. At the same time, I wouldn’t dream of slamming him as an entertainer. He does what he does, because he enjoys it, and he obviously has many fans who enjoy it as well. If what I said in my previous blog regarding my impression of a single performance from Adam upset or offended any of his fans, I expect that the mature ones will realize that it was simply a poorly worded metaphor describing my personal tastes. The only person I would really dream of apologizing to is Adam. And the irony is, if he’s smart he couldn’t give a crap what I think of his Ring of Fire performance. As an entertainer, Adam knows that one person’s opinion of one performance really matters a little less than zero, in the grand scheme of things. He could not have gotten on Idol (nor made it as far as he did) without an immense amount of talent. He surely doesn’t need my approval to know he has a gift. At the same time, he realizes that amazing talent doesn’t always equal universal appeal. (I could NEVER have the amount of skill and talent that ballet dancers have! that’s talent! But, I don’t particularly enjoy it!) I am sure that I will have plenty of opportunities in the coming years to hear Adam sing. I imagine he’ll be around for years to come. But in the meantime, I definitely don’t want to stoop to the level of so many negative freaks on the internet… so, I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me. I imagine he doesn’t give a damn! :-) God knows he shouldn’t. :-) “

This is all so funny. Aiken is right about AI. He’s right about music being about taste. People can’t even understand the original blog much less the second one. Does no school teach reading comprehension any more? I like Aiken. I like Lambert. I laughed at Ring of Fire but it was fun watching. Doesn’t anyone have a sense of humor any more? Aiken didn’t like it. Big deal. He doesn’t have to. I like Lambert. I don’t care if anyone else does. Why are people making this out to be a war of fans? No one gives a crap when other performers make fun of Aiken. Own your own taste. This is such a nonstory. What Aiken said about AI is completely correct. And Lambert fans should realize that. Lambert lost because the judges pimped him too much and regular viewers who really couldn’t care less voted for the other guy just to gum up the show. Lambert fans should be pissed at AI. If they hadn’t annointed him the winner in the second week - he might just have won.
oh please. clay aiken is long forgotten and no one cares about his opinion. generally, i believe not everyone would like adam lambert but it doesn’t mean you have to post a blog to the entire world, KNOWING that people would read about it, harshly dissing a fellow Idol and then laugh, saying that you never did know that your opinion matters so much.
for a fact, it doesnt, dont flatter yourself. adam has won over millions of people across the world and not winning YOU over doesn’t mean a thing. and you know what? you should actually observe more before publishing your small-minded post.
I thought that was a fine apology. Hopefully this can all be put to rest.
While I have never been a Clay fan I used to respect him. Now I am not sure what to think because that wasn’t an apology. Adam is a talented and kind person. Clay why you have sunk to this sick level is beyond me.
I’m have been a huge Clay aiken fan for six years. I am a huge Adam Lambert fan since Season 8. I think Clay’s apology to Adam was just fine. People that don’t like him are going to find fault with it. It’s time to move on from this.
Clay Aiken apologized - I would say the man has integrity.
” I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me. I imagine he doesn’t give a damn! God knows he shouldn’t. “
Wow. Some of the people on here are overly invested in Adam. All the signs and symptoms are there. Give it a rest. Adam has yet to prove himself. Kind of creepy to read the over-impassioned diatribes. Who cares what Clay thinks? He voiced an opinion and issued an apology. Deal.
@mICHAEL SELF:
Nope, that’s already been offered to kelly clarkson
fkin’ carrot top, jealous much? go rule your claynation and shut yer trap
Gay drama! lol
this is not an apology.
what a conceited, sad little man….clay who?
stating an opinion is different from bashing. all he did was bash.
Clay sucks
As soon as I read that stuff he said about him yesterday…i just KNEW he was going to apologize right after
Firstly Clay, most people only wrote once to chastize you for being a poor sport then promptly forgot about, so don’t flatter yourself, second, I doubt your motivation came from a what you call blythe comment. And now you protest way too much. Face it, people are not stupid and see through your insincerity. You just wanted some attention, and here we are giving it to you, but dear Clay it’s the wrong kind for you and will be forgotten , most wrote to protect Adam because they love him. I’m sure he would just smile at you wish you the best, being the classy guy he is. Maybe you could learn by example.
I liked Clay enough to buy his first CD. To overlook the horrible winking during American Idol, which, thank God, Simon finally commented on and stopped. To overlook his use of “the royal we.”
I do not like him enough to overlook his rant against Adam Lambert, whose incredible talent was apparent on every single AI show he appeared on.
Extraordinarily bad form, Clay. You have lost a fan.
I think Clay is jealous of Adam.
I’ve been a big Clay fan since AI2. I think Adam is very talented. I doubt he would be upset by Clay’s comments. Clay did apologize and that is the important thing here. I can’t forget everything I liked about Clay for six years over this one incident.
im suprised how many people are flipping a **** over this. everyone’s entitled to their own opinion! geez
LOVE clay, HATE adam.
clay is much more talented. enough said.
Not only did Clay bash Adam with his negative remark- But then he calls every negative person on the internet Freaks. I wonder how many of the people he called Freaks bought his music? I bet they never buy anymore. Clay never hurt Adam by his remarks - he hurt himself- I bet his music sells drops.
Someone is dying for attention, he is just trying to get people to talk about HIM, and its working.
Adam Lambert’s version of ‘Ring of Fire’ is what you would hear in Buffalo Bill’s basement as he lowered the lotion in the basket.
I didn’t like Adam’s ring of fire either. Clay should check out some of Adam’s other songs that were much better. Clay apologized. I doubt Adam is hurt by any of this. I like both of them. The end.
Clay, I voted for you so many times when you were on Idol.
I went to see you in concert with the Idols in Dallas during the tour.
I own every one of your CD’s including your Christmas one.
I am so disappointed in your comments regarding Adam, and your “apology” comes off insincere and contrived.
Needless to say, this is one very disappointed Claymate!
AAAA…sometime…i think that adults love to act like kids….huh….i think…it’s ok….and it’s great to give an opinion….like you guys that wrote these insulting opinion about clay….you can really feel free to comment other people right?? I think that he didn’t meant anything bad at all…And sometime….And you guys here are just acting like kids…You don’t even know who’s adam really is….you don’t even know who clay really is….don’t act like you know so many things about them…If they are kind or bad….what kind of personality…..what’s the good side of them…And folks….we’re just common people here…just fans of one of them or both of em….why do you guys insulting so much about these things…is it really important….everybody can disappoint each other….I’m not in anyone side….i like both of them…
