OlderGerard Butler Likes Long Walks On The Beach
Gerard Butler chats it up with some friends and then goes for a walk on the beach in Malibu on Monday (May 25).
The 39-year-old Scottish actor can be seen this summer in the romantic comedy The Ugly Truth, which will premiere on July 24. The official website’s synopsis: “The battle of the sexes heats up in Columbia Pictures’ comedy The Ugly Truth. Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) is a romantically challenged morning show producer whose search for Mr. Perfect has left her hopelessly single. She’s in for a rude awakening when her bosses team her with Mike Chadway (Butler), a hardcore TV personality who promises to spill the ugly truth on what makes men and women tick.
Earlier this month, Gerard was charged with misdemeanor battery. His attorney, Blair Berk, said he is not required to and will not appear in court on the charge.

Gerry fans really like to extol his warm-heartedness and intelligence, but frankly, I have not seen evidence of either. In every interview I’ve seen he’s crass, rude, and makes a complete ass of himself. I know, “It’s his Scottish humour.” Yeah right. Did you all see the video of him with Guy Ritchie accepting the Best Picture award for RNR. That comment he made seemed to embarrass the other people on the stage. Guy Ritchie blushed….and he was married to Madonna! I, too, expected a lot from GB, but he’s given up being an actor in favor of being a ‘movie star’. He has a lot of talent; I’ve seen it. But I haven’t seen the acting skill GB displayed in Dear Frankie, Please, and other earlier works in quite a while. What the f.uck was he doing in “Nim’s Island” and “PS, I Love You”? Did he run out of money? He was scraping the bottom of the barrel with that crap. The fact that people are talking more about GB’s sexual escapades than his acting abilities indicates how disappointing he is in his profession. I don’t think he came all the way to America to be known as the Hollywood’s most prolific manwh.ore. IMO, GB’s got a lot of growing to do, both as an actor and a man.
Interesting comment. We’ve all got a lot of growing to do. We’re all works in progress. He happens to be a million dollar man so things can move slower in the maturing department, plus his past hasn’t helped. Yet I know for certain he’s made some major positive changes there.
I’m not so much of a defender of him personally, but to his right to both privacy to live his life as he sees fit and to make his own and career choices. Not every movie will be successful or along the dramatic Dear Frankie lines. It’s his career. So a few films tank, that’s the price of diversity. I sense he wants to do varied rolls that challenge him or could just be for or for the payday. There’s no sin in that. Just being a working actor these days is a credit to his value.
Also, he’s two vastly different movies coming out this year The Ugly Truth and Gamer which target opposite audiences. Seems to me it’s taken at least a year to gain his bodily health back from the abuse his body took for both 300 & Gamer and his successfully quitting smoking.
Law Abiding Citizen has earmarks of being a very successful film reaching out to an entirely different group.
Just (personally) would rather see him use his celebrity for causes he might hold dear but feels some industry hold over him to meet some sort of expectation to be seen as a leading man ‘hunk’, thus the cruising. Philanthropy is just as sexy and for many it can show a better side of him than single dude clubber. Not putting his right to club down, just get seen other places to balance it.
Frankly before becoming interested in his career, as a long-time movie buff, I’d never even knew of IMDb or JJ. And frankly don’t think anything said here or anywhere affects him any. Just hope he doesn’t waste his time reading but puts it into more positive things like the writing he said he’s doing and other pet projects that he follows.

If he spent as much time at charity fundraisers as he does at nightclubs, maybe the tabloids wouldn’t have him pegged as a contender for “Shagger of the Year.” They might assume he had another side that wasn’t entirely self-serving. You are absolutely right that it would help his career more to attend those events and rub shoulders with Spielberg, Hanks and others than to be rubbing other parts with disposable models at nightclubs each night. He doesn’t seem as interested in substance. Therefore, it’s no stretch that people think he’s in it for the money.
You mentioned accepting him for “who he really is.” How do you know who he really is? Maybe “Shagger of the Year” is who he is.
There are more places he can go and not be noticed than the places he goes and gets photographed. He knows that. When he doesn’t want to be seen, he’s not seen. He wants to be seen.
I’m curious why him being a million dollar man gives him license to mature slowly. Money is an excuse to be immature?
Besides, if he was so private, why does he talk about every aspect of his life - from his childhood, to his antics as a young man, to masturbating at 3AM, to Madonna giving him a shot in the ass? That’s no way to tell the world you want it to respect your privacy.
If he isn’t using his celebrity for causes, it’s his choice. Many other celebrities do it and it doesn’t affect their “hunk” status. Why would it be different for him? There’s no excuse. He doesn’t have to do anything for any cause, but then if people think he’s a selfish ******* when all they see of him is him hitting on women, then he shouldn’t be surprised.

Reading JJ or IMDB? No way. He doesn’t read the fansites either. He doesn’t need to bother with any of that now that he is on the Hollywood radar. Aside from his mgr. telling them what they can and can’t put on their sites, when’s the last time Gerry interacted with the fansites directly - two years ago? Face it, once 300 hit the cinema, he cut the fansites loose. He doesn’t need that anyore.
126, I’m surprised you mentioned the Guy Richie inicident. I actually thought it was very funny and cute and it seemed the three of them, Gerry, Richie and the other actor were having a bit of boy fun. I don’t think anyone was blushing at all.

No, it wasn’t funny at all because this wasn’t a one-time joke but the way he talks all the time. But of course his fangurls defend every verbal **** of him.
Mark Strong did not laugh. He looked either uncomfortable or flat out pissed. There were a few awkward laughs from the audience, but it was basically silence and crickets. When I first saw that clip I was embarrassed for Gerry. His joke about the p/ssy fell flat as did his joke at Guy’’s expense about Guy finally doing something right. It was one of the worst public appearances that I have ever seen of Gerry.
Wow. I never saw that RnR vid. GB makes a LOT of bad appearances, I think. The guy shoots his mouth off in incredibly stupid ways for a man we keep being told is highly intelligent. So puerile! Anyone remember his stuntman award for “300?” He got up and said something like, “If this won’t help me get laid, nothing will.” He went on with more stuff that made me cringe and feel baffled. These people were HONORING him for his work, and what little laughter there was sounded uneasy. It’s bizarre. It seems as if he doesn’t connect with adult reality or something.
Sotrue, you say a lot of true stuff. Like, if he is so private why does he talk so much about his private life. I’ve always thought that. He says provocative things, just enough to keep people interested in probing.
I was mildly interested in Butler, mostly for his acting chops. However, all has changed after reading all the negative comments about him based on unfounded speculations and petiteness. Those who interpret everything Butler did/said in a negative light have turned me into a fan of Butler’s. The so-called “whoring” “Club/bar hopping”, isn’t it what a normal healthy single male supposed to do? Has he wrecked any marriages or caused any harm to anyone?
If nay-sayers are trying to convert fans into nay-sayers like themselves, they don’t know much about human psychology.

It surprises me that Gerard does not appear in court alongside his attorney as a “legal eagle” himself. My reason is to defend the pedestrian, who was almost hit. I applaud his coming to the person’s rescue in the face of a suit such as this. His attorney shall win his case; however, will the pedestrian win anything. It’s good to see that Gerard (Jared) finally has found himself again! Go to court, if you have not already! JTD
