OlderDrew Barrymore Attends Gay Marriage Rally
Drew Barrymore and her BFF Chris Miller show their support for the freedom to marry following the California Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold Proposition 8, on Tuesday (May 26) at the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente in West Hollywood.
The California State Supreme Court voted 6-1 to uphold Proposition 8, which makes it illegal for same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. More than 18,000 same-sex couples that wed before Prop 8 was voted in will still be legally married.
Drew, 34, shared at the rally, “I am who I am because of the people who influenced me growing up, and many of them were gay. No one has any right to tell anyone what makes a family… You choose your battles in this world. If you fight for everything, you’re just someone on a soapbox. This is something that means everything to me.”

This is so ridiculous already. It’s really quite simple. And the same rules should apply to Hetero AND Gay couples. Simply put: Marriage is a Sacrament. It is not bestowed by any Court or President or any other person. We, as a society, have become flippant with the term. We let heterosexual couples joined in Court call themselves married. They are not. Theirs is a Civil Union. Gay’s joined in Court are not married either. Theirs is also a Civil Union. I fully support making the married/not married rule apply to all unions. And if man/woman civil unions make them man and wife and eligible for benefits as a spouse so should gay unions make them whatever/whatever and eligible for benefits as a spouse. HOWEVER, unless joined by a clergymember of a bible based religion …they are not and never will be “married”. If a gay couple can find someone in the Clergy to “marry” them…then they are married. If not, then they aren’t. Same goes for hetero unions. It doesn’t matter what any court does or does not decide. You can call those not joined by a memeber of the clergy “married” until the cows come home. I don’t care. They aren’t. and never will be.
