Brad Pitt is Billy Beane

Brad Pitt gets down to business at Smashbox Studios in Hollywood and then hops on a private jet at Burbank Airport on Tuesday (June 2) in Calif.

The 45-year-old actor is set to star in Moneyball, which begins shooting on June 11. The flick centers on the major-league’s Oakland A’s and their general manager Billy Beane (Pitt) who attempts to draft players to the team using computer-generated analysis.

As producer Michael DeLuca tells LA Times, “If you try to think of a movie star who could embody someone like Beane – a former athlete who’s an incredibly physical specimen with movie good looks — you pretty much get to Brad Pitt right away.”

Why the new Brad Pitt film is right on the ‘Money’

As the story is told by Lewis in “Moneyball,” Beane is a classic outlaw hero, thumbing his nose at decades of baseball tradition in his irreverent efforts to transform the sport’s hidebound ideas of how to scout talent. Still, it felt like an impossible dream to imagine that Hollywood would possibly transform the Beane saga into a feature film, because the saga has no love story, no real villains and lots of wonky baseball chatter. But sometimes improbable stories do get told. Not only is “Moneyball” set to start shooting on June 11, but the $57-million project is in the hands of a first-class group of talent, with Brad Pitt playing Beane and Steven Soderbergh directing a shooting script penned by the much decorated Steve Zaillian (”Schindler’s List”).

What’s more, having read the final script, I can only say that the story is amazingly faithful to the book, capturing the rebellious energy of Beane as he butts heads with the old-school baseball establishment. Soderbergh, who will serve as his own cinematographer on the film, is so adamant about sticking close to the tone and texture of the book that he is having many of the actual characters involved with the 2002-era events — including Oakland A’s Manager Art Howe, catcher-turned-first baseman Scott Hatteberg and outfielder David Justice — play themselves.

In some ways, it’s easy to understand why Hollywood finally fell for the Billy Beane story. He’s the Sammy Glick of baseball, a far closer cousin to Ari Emanuel than legendary baseball GMs like Al Campanis or Buzzie Bavasi. Beane is a scrappy hustler with a shrewd eye for talent, always playing the angles, one step ahead of his rivals, always on the lookout for the next ingenious deal.

For filmmakers, Beane brings baseball into sharp focus. DeLuca admits that although he was a Yankees fan as a boy, he really loved sports movies more than the sports themselves. “Sports films are great because they’re allegorical — they’re a great metaphor for life,” he said. “It’s how you learn about relationships and heroism and friendship and teamwork and tragedy. I guess it’s why we’re trying to stay so close to reality with this story, because in ‘Moneyball,’ the drama is all there already. There’s no reason why you have to make anything up.”

I have to admit I like The Ne’s cover stories on Oprah and Dr Phil. They are always something hilarious and or crazy like Oprah’s fighting with Obama’s wife!! or Dr. Phil and his wife fighting over his his affairs!! One crazy NE cover story said Oprah was gonna die in three years.

In other words - notOK hasn’t had them on the cover for the last month, sales were flagging, so they pulled a story out of their asses and put it on the cover to increase sales.
.
notOK has undergone a shift in editorial philosophy is more like Elle with lost of celebrity feature stories and a smattering of gossip. I had to laugh earlier today when I was on CoverAWards.com looking at the tab covers - Pasetsky sucks, but it beats going to the each tab’s individual site - and Pasetsky was saying he had good news: He’s been hired as an editorial consultant by notOK. I LMAO. I was like, “Dude, you got dumped by OUttaTouch because you drove their sales into the ground! What the hell is notOK thinking?” So if you see a shift back toward tall-tale Jolie-Pitt gossip from notOK in the coming weeks…that’ll be Pasetsky’s contribution.

She’ll be 34. I think she’s lovely.

Brad Pitt is allegedly ready to “move on” from Angelina Jolie as their fighting is taking a toll on them both. Sources say the couple, who has allegedly “kept up a charade” of happiness for the cameras, is looking forward to spending time apart this summer.

“Brad is most definitely ready to move on. He’s just bidding his time,” says an insider.

“They are keeping up this charade in part for the children, but also because there’s a strong sense of pride and they hate people to know how bad things really are between them. But they can’t go on like this. It’s tearing them both apart to be so unhappy all the time,” a friend of the couple’s explains.

Pitt is reportedly set to spend time in Oakland, California shooting ‘Moneyball’ without Jolie and their 6 children. Sources claim the actor has already set up a secret meeting with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.

“Jen needs to stand up to Brad and tell him to sort his own business out. But she’s got too much of a soft spot for him. She still loves him after all this time,” another source says.

It seems the cover sidebar of notOK is misleading to their actual story. Imagine that.

PART ONE

Eli Roth is going back to doing what he does best: writing, producing and directing quality genre fare. Taking a career break after HOSTEL: PART II to enjoy his well-earned success and reassess his career position in the light of that sequel attracting undeserved negativity, Roth decided to do what no one expected. And that was act.

He put his toe in the water with DEATH PROOF, part of Quentin Tarantino’s GRINDHOUSE exploitation extravaganza, and now returns with a more substantial role in his executive producer/close friend’s INGOURIOUS ********. For this two-part interview, Roth talked candidly to Fango about this WWII fairy tale, his new production COTTON, an epic sci-fi project, a remake of THE FUNHOUSE and his future plans at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where he was attending the ******** world premiere.

Now I’m in this one with Brad Pitt’s character…and another in the Paris cinema where they plot to blow up Adolf Hitler during a premiere. Oh well, I wanted to know what life was like in front of the camera for a change, and here was my chance. Big time.

“Everything changed when HOSTEL hit the number-one box-office spot in America,” he recalls. “I went from being the director of this cult movie CABIN FEVER to a relatively big deal in a short space of time. People thought I was going to change, but it was more a case of them changing toward me and getting weird. I felt let down by a lot of people who thought I’d turn into a monster. But I was always a monster! Ask any of my old school friends.”

He continues, “Robert Rodriguez offered me the best advice at this time: stay creative, stay fresh and go full steam ahead. While I don’t subscribe to the crazy LA thinking regarding getting your next job before your last film is released or else you’ll go cold, I hurtled straight into HOSTEL: PART II so I wouldn’t get paralyzed by the fear of trying to top HOSTEL. I thought that in a few years I wouldn’t want to do HOSTEL: PART II, while now I was ready and really into it, so I could hone my techniques and skills and try different tones, scores and parallel stories.”

“I never auditioned for the part, though,” he continues. “Other actors were reading for the role, and Quentin had given me this long speech about how everyone auditioned for him, even Daniel Day-Lewis for PULP FICTION. Finally, the night before leaving to scout German locations, he took me out to dinner and said he wanted to talk about my character, how I needed to flesh him out and create a backstory. I said I didn’t want to do all that work when I wasn’t sure I had the part. That’s when he told me I always had it from the very beginning, and he was auditioning everyone else to see if they were any better. He said I understood the rhythm of his dialogue and how to nail it. I was shocked.”

Was Roth scared about performing opposite superstar Brad Pitt, German sensation Diane Kruger or the award-winning Michael Fassbender? “The truth? Not really. You don’t want to be acting against bad actors, that’s all. You want to be acting against the likes of Pitt etc., because they’re just so damn good. When you do a scene with Pitt, it’s really happening in the moment and you get to the heart of the material, in a totally thrilling way. Brad was awesome, so nice, he was the coolest and I asked him all about SE7EN and TWELVE MONKEYS. We talked about everything. He was so generous and told us all about his old movies and acting techniques-pretty unbelievable. And yes, I did meet Angelina Jolie once on set, and she said hello. That’s usually the only question I get asked about INGLOURIOUS

PT: good morning. Thanks for pointing out that the troll’s post came straight from Outta Touch. Won’t they ever stop??? Thank goodness though that you are coming up with a tab report again. Can’t wait ….
