OlderRoger Federer “Attacked” At French Open
A man wearing a Barcelona shirt and holding a flag disrupted the finals by rushing towards Roger Federer and tried to put a hat on him during the second set in front of stunned spectators at the 2009 French Open on Sunday (June 7), in Paris, France.
“All of a sudden I heard the crowd, and I looked over and he jumped over the fence or something,” Federer said afterward. “That gave me a fright, just, like, seeing him so close right away.” After the incident, Federer, 27, beat Robin Soderling in three sets and now that he has tied Pete Sampras at 14 majors.
“Now the question is, am I the greatest of all time? We don’t know, but I definitely have many things going for me because I’ve finally won all four Grand Slams and I’m particularly happy reaching Pete’s 14,” he said.

I was watching the game yesterday and I was like WTF??? who’s this crazy guy?? he almost spoiled the game for Roger, but of course Roger made it through!

I hope that guy gets a few weeks in jail to think about his stupidity. It’s a good thing for Roger that it was nothing serious. And did say that the news conference after the match that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened during one of his matches. It’s the THIRD TIME! I guess Roger’s just so damned good it brings out all the nutjobs…

Jared, you should get more informed. That’s not a Barça t-shirt but a Swiss one (you can actually read Suisse on it and you can also see the swiss flag on his socks) The scarf he’s carrying is indeed a Barça’s souvenir and so is the hat he has on the other hand, it’s named barretina and it’s a typical catalan hat :)

I watched the vid and that was really scary! I hope the security tightens after this incident. Federer could have been seriously injured before anyone got to help him. :-(

Security was definitely dilatory in responding! This miscreant could have been wielding a knife, or some other sharp object, and attacked Roger with it. Fortunately, nothing sinster happened. Federer handled it with his customary sang-froid, and eventually won the match. Now, on to Wimbledon!
