Brad Pitt popped up in Switzerland on Tuesday at Art Basel.

An AP photographer snapped the actor checking out the work “end of knowledge” (24K gold on primed linen, 2008-2009) by US artist Jim Hodges through his aviator shades.
On Monday Pitt was in Washington DC having lunch with partner Angelina Jolie.

Give me some Brad with that fancy dancy art.. His Angie loves him for being her Brad so whatever he buys/bids at the art store she will love him even more.

Papa Brad visited Mama Angie on the set of Salt yesterday and is in Basel Switzerland today. Probably will fly back to US this afternoon. Does Brad Pitt ever rest? I guess this is why he is Brad Pitt and Angie loves him so much.

Actor Brad Pitt briefly sent camera phones on fire earlier today at the Art Basel art fair in Basel, Switzerland, when he lingered before Neo Rauch’s rainbow-colored racetrack painting, “Etappe,” at the booth of New York dealer David Zwirner.

The 1998 painting depicts a swirling view of a driver behind a red, Formula One-style racecar, with workers nearby carrying candy-colored hoses. (See below)

After eyeing the 9-foot-wide work for several minutes, Pitt rubbed his goatee, fiddled with his tweed driving cap, and walked away. Zwirner, looking slightly anxious, said, “He’s on the fence. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.”

Pitt returned minutes later with Eli and Edythe Broad, the major Los Angeles collectors. Pitt and Broad conferred and then the group left.

Broad, hours later, says he gave the actor a friendly nudge. “I told him we had four Rauchs and if he didn’t buy it, we probably would.”

The peer pressure worked: Pitt soon after agreed to buy the oil on linen Rauch for just under $1 million, the gallery confirmed.

That wasn’t art he bought. That’s GROSS! Foolish man with too much $ to burn.

I think these two are going to be taking time off from the movie biz when they can to spend time together and with the kids.

I saw a twitter yesterday around 4pm by a guy who said he was sitting next to Brad Pitt on the shuttle to Dulles - Dulles is the international airport outside D.C. I guess that was probably really him.
There was also a woman on her way to Europe who mentioned Brad and how she didn’t get to sit next to him on her plane. You always wonder if they mean the real Brad and are not just using Brad’s name as in “I’m standing next to Brad Pitt” just because the guy next to them has a Poor Boy hat on. People do use his name like people use Xerox for all copying.

I’ve never seen someone age so much in 5yrs as brad has done.

I love pictures of Brad/Angie with kids. Each of them just lights up every time they are around children. I see that in pictures all the time. Brad and Angie each have said that Brad loves to draw and paint. I wonder if that is one of the reasons they go to art stores and museums all the time. Angie and Brad have also said that the kids make gifts for each other. If you have ever had a chance to work in any way with kids you will know how much they love making things and giving them to people.

I was watching Extra and saw that Brad (Plan B ) is Producing Julia Roberts next movie.. I am not a great fan of her’s but will see it.

Hoping for more pics of the family. Angie should be wrapping up Salt this week. Then the family is going to CA I think…

The auction was held in April 2009, not a good time for the stock market generally. The uptick in the stock market still hadn’t taken hold. However, the lockheed lounge still fetched US$1.6m (using the pound - $ exchange rate at the date of auction).

Thank you embo for your postings of the Kathie Lee articles. I remember reading about this when it happened. This is such a sensitive issue…i.e. this is a jumble of moral, ethical and economic factors at play but there is always another side from which to take into consideration and then the dilemma of a dead end solution. I can understand the “sweatshop” conditions being considered horrible especially as it is viewed by America and other first world countries where standards of conditions of living and working are the frame of reference…certainly we should be appalled. These issues should be brought to the attention of all.

However, not to offend or touch upon anyone’s righteous sensitivities but unlike the worse conditions imaginable in a specific area of the US, millions of people in third world countries live on dirt floors, with no windows or doors, just curtains if they are fortunate…no running water, multiple families share just one room as living quarters, no toilet facilities at all and babies as well as the very old walk to the nearest river or lake to bath in p.o.o.p water shared with other animals. This is their life on a day to day basis.
I have volunteered in a free medical clinic for the poorest of the poor in Honduras and the normal living conditions for these people is typically dirt floors, no running water and if water, it smells out of the tap like sewage. I have seen babies and toddlers on respirators for hours at a time held by their mothers in the clinic’s hallway because the constant dirt inhaled leads to high repiratory problems and a high mortality rate. Only one out of six children ever finish the fifth grade due to poverty causing a high drop out rate. The equivalent of the “Governor” in the region I became familiar with has a fourth grade education.
I present this information only because “the sweat shop” concept is only as important as the usual and customary environment. Yes it is horrible but no more than the reality that what Americans want at the price that we want to pay is available off the backs and hard labor of the very young and old who work in terribly unsanitary and dangerous conditions in far away countries…however please be reminded that these people live every day in those environments, that without even these jobs, there would be no work for them at all, that the more comfortable countries demand of low price goods is what is propelling these very work environments, that third world countries offer no social service support system or financial aid and these people and their families would go hungry and/or die without those pennies a day, that “pennies a day” are worth more in a third world country enough to purchase food to get by on.
I’m not offering any solution, nor am I criticizing anyone including Kathie Lee or the people offended by this issue. However, one should put everything in perspective. The economic and social chain reaction is a lot more complicated and consequently people judge and criticize from their armchair based only on how it is presented in the media without having been there. The reality is these conditions exist and the demand and desire for inexpensive electronics, big screen TV’s, clothing, etc is also the responsibility of the buyer and our own economy, social status needs and wants. We are all apart of the total and simple indignation isn’t worth much, sorry to say.

Btw embo, I don’t know why Kathy Lee Gifford speaks disparagingly of AJ but I wouldn’t assume it’s because she was totally knowledgeable of what she was getting into re: her clothing line…Kathy Lee is not exactly the most intelligent nor worldly sophisticated of talk show hosts. She was just probably being the opportunist to get her name out there on a line of clothing. IMO…and it’s just an opinion, that Kathi Lee was more aligning herself with the “AJ stole a husband” theme since Frank Gifford had affairs on her and it was such a public humiliation at the time akin to JA’s one of many.

I was knackered last night and HAD to hit the hay… But…yeah, on the first 4 pages I saw about 6 poses from famous Angie pix. (Keep refreshing for breaking news): I’ve just learned that representatives for Inglorious ******** have scheduled a phone call today this week with Universal Pictures to discuss The Weinstein Company’s financial problems which are being splashed all over the media. Right now, everyone is still operating on the premise that TWC can come up with the $30 million or moreo marketing money budgeted for Inglorious ********. But that was before news came out that The Weinstein Company is on the brink (amid rumors the end could come in August) intenwsified by last week’s bad news that TWC has hired a financial advisory firm to restructure. The deal for Inglorious ******** had always been a 3-way financial partnership among Quentin Tarantino, The Weinstein Company, and Universal. But a worst case scenario was always considered by Quentin’s people: What if TWC which has domestic didn’t have the resources to market and/or release the movie? Universal has foreign. Would it pick up the North America as well? Meanwhile, Universal is the distributor of the valuable domestic DVD rights on behalf of the 3-way partnership. But now I’ve learned that Genius may kick up a fuss.

That’s not all. Film financing sources tell me that, at one point, The Weinstein Company had scheduled for release the movie All Good Things for July 24th. This would have been the indie’s first pic out since February. But now TWC will be pushing that film to the 4th quarter, which prompted talk that TWC “doesn’t have the P& A to release it” and “is are worried about the financial results of its distribution”. Not so, says an insider with the production. It won’t be delivered until fall “for reasons having nothing to do with the Weinsteins”. Of course, this info was relayed to me after the Weinsteins placed a call to someone connected to the pic. I’m told “the movie is really strong. We just needed more time to complete it.” Groundswell Productions financed the movie but is depending on TWC for marketing and distribution.

TWC also had scheduled Shanghai, a $50+ milllion production, for release on September 4th. One of my sources explains, “They will push that film to another date in the distant future.” There is also word internally that they may push off Youth In Revolt, currently scheduled for October 30th, into the distant future. What this all means is that TWC is “hoarding whatever cash they have left to be able to release Inglorious ********,” a film financer analyzes. Tarantino’s film is scheduled for release August 21st.

First, I’m amused that others are so behind in their reporting: I posted days ago that Harvey Weinstein successfully talked Quentin Tarantino into agreeing to cut down Inglourious ********. Actually, Tarantino himself was stung by the very mixed reviews coming out of the Cannes Film Festival, so he and his people knew the film needed more work. Now I have more to add about the The Weinstein Company’s meltdown. Yet another TWC film is getting lost in the shuffle — Hurricane Season with Forest Whitaker in his first starring role since winning the Best Actor Oscar, Taraji Hensen the recent Oscar nominee and white hot), and Lil’ Wayne who’s one of the biggest musicians in the country right now. Tim Story (Barbershop) directed the movie which tested at a 92 in Inglewood a few months ago. (Not that tests mean anything. So many bombs test big that it’s a completely meaningless tool.)
