Former O.C. star Rachel Bilson makes a quick stop by a Rite-Aid pharmacy in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles on Thursday (June 11).
The 27-year-old Californian beauty was out-and-about with a mystery male on Tuesday at the Aroma Cafe in Studio City, Calif.
RB was recently in Europe with fiance Hayden Christensen, enjoying the French Open.

@ 8 In the Glamour interview on youtube, Hayden did not say he and Rachel were never in LA, he said “we don’t spend alot of time in Hollywood or Los Angeles”, to that effect, “we” meaning Hayden and Rachel. They do disappear for weeks at a time, then reappear for a bit, then disappear again to Canada, or wherever. I guess he feels they spend more time away from LA than in it. As for them being private, they are on the internet blogs, but they are not on the front pages of gossip magazines or tabloid newspapers, like some celebrities are. When Hayden was asked about the blogger sites, he answered that question pretty well.
This is the first time he has acknowledged Rachel as his fiancee publically on video, confirming thier engagement verbally in an interview. Some people who post on here have said that when they confirm their engagement, people will lose interest in them, and leave them alone. It will be interesting to see if the posts decrease, then, as predicted!

Someone, somewhere, should stand up for the truth. Too many believe that certain celebrities have an almost god like importance. It’s called idol worship although it’s more accurate to call it idle worship with these two.
1: HC is not a good actor as he has little real versatily. The roles he has been good in tend be those that reflect his persona. i.e. bratty kid with issues. He’s a one note man and is stilted and wooden in roles requiring more depth and expertise. This is not a problem in his profession necessarily. Many C list actors have marginally successful careers.
2: RB has less talent as an actress than HC has as an actor. Again, not really much of a problem as talent is less of a requirement as long as she keeps her looks.
3: Both are reasonally good-looking but neither are truly inspiring in the looks department.
4: RB’s fashion status is over-rated. Again she’s not a fashion icon as there are far better out there. She’s a fashion follower and follows the leaders rather than being a leader herself.
5: They should get married. RB is probably better suited in the role of stay at home mother, or perhaps become a pre-school teacher providing she can get the qualifications.
6: These are not an intelligent couple. That is apparent in interviews. They are average.
In fact, they are nothing special and that is the truth.
And that’s awfully & shamefully all TRUE.

@Gasol_fan16: I would hope that, like many young women her age, she has a good college and university education behind her. You can’t coast through life with no qualifications. Education is so vitally important and also a good indicator of a person’s general all-round intelligence.

I don’t want to cause offence to anyone that doesn’t have a solid background in higher education but I frequently work with people who lack such a background and I find that, on average, they have a limited vocabulary and their general knowledge skills are often narrow, they lack a broad range of knowledge that such education gives them. This means that they are often poor conversationalists and find it difficult understanding complex instructions. They tend to lack initiative and don’t work well on their own. I imagine that this lack could become quite boring in a long term situation. Long term relationships need to be stimulating and the broader the knowledge base, the more stimulating the person.
I think that most people agree on how important it is to make sure kids pursue a good education.

RB specializes in the Dead Look like he does plus she is totally obvious media hound that is selling out her relationship to a commercial sponsor. Today I downloaded and printed all the photographs of HC and RB that I could find, going back over a year. Both the noticably papped ones and those ones where they either didn’t know paps were there or were not fussed. I took them to my friend. She’s a marriage councillor and studies body language. Her methods usually have a high success rate and she can tell by the way her clients react with each other whether the relationship has a chance of surviving or not. i.e do they make eye contact with each other? do they sit with their bodies angled away from each other? do their eyes smile at each other even if their lips don’t? etc. She was quite surprised that HC and RB are in a relationship as his body language gives no indication of closeness. His eyes don’t smile at her when he looks at her. In fact most of his facial expressions seem to indicate boredom or indifference. There is a distance between them. In her professional opinion, from analysing their body language, she finds it difficult to believe the relationship is based on love and/or mutual respect and affection. Many of the indications presented, she felt, she would expect to find in a couple close to breaking up and going their separate ways. She’s been a marriage councillor now for over eight years and has a lot of experience. I found her analysis thought provoking. What does anyone else think?
Could it be that you are only showing those pictures where they are not looking to each other? There are other pictures too where one can see that they are indeed belong to each other. You can find them in dh net, rachel bilson.de, etc.
@S: It was a whole range of pictures going back almost eighteen months. There were ones of them looking like a normal couple but only about 10 or so compared to over a 100 others. Even in some of them the body language was hard to define. In one he appears to be laughing at something she said but his body is angled away from hers avoiding contact. There was also the photo of him kissing Sienna tenderly in a vehicle. My friend pointed out to me that body language is actually really hard to fake because the majority of it is sub-conscious and occurs without thinking about it. One of the reasons she finds it such an accurate tool for gauging peoples true feelings.
She felt that there was genuine love and affection in the Sienna photo but not in any of the others with Rachel.

I agree with jo, there is absolutely nothing natural or normal about RB and HC relationship and no one in the media thinks otherwise. If they stay together, it will be for a host of reasons other than love or respect. Something is really very strange about this relationship and what is the big deal to print some pictures. You can contribute to a cause and do very important things and still once in a while get involved in something totally entertaining, nothing wrong with that. Get a life “mother Teresa”.

@voice of reason: Hi VOR, I find celebrity ‘culture’ fascinating and the following among people that it generates. I don’t dislike these particular celebrities, tho I would agree that I am not a fan. I ‘follow’, if you like, several sets of couples to see how they’re performing and what fan reactions are like. Personally I find celebrities irrelevant to society in that they contribute little but expect much. Why do ordinary people latch on to them? What does it say about that particular celebrity? Or does it say more about their fanbase? Why have celebrities become so popular in social culture? What are they replacing (i.e. faith for example)? What lack are they fulfilling in peoples lives?
HC and RB seemed perfect to follow because the amount of media attention, in certain areas, is not in accordance to their actual celebrity standing. As people they are average in many respects. A fact I have pointed out before. They’re pretty mediocre compared to, say, the Jolie-Pitts.
Re the body language: Other couples I follow have more expressive body language when interacting with each other, sometimes positive, sometimes negative than these two. Which makes these two more fascinating precisely because they don’t.
I study human nature. If I lived in the right area I would be studying baboons.

Personally, I always thought that monotheism was the main cause of this interest (not in Iran, of course). You are right, I do not know that their familes have not voiced concerns. I am going on how I would react as a mother, since I have children Hayden and Rachel’s age, and have been in the situation myself. Based on a couple of pictures I have seen of Rachel with his mother, it looked like they got along, she was giving her a kiss on the cheek in one. I got married young, and have been married for thirty-one years (to the same man), with three children in their mid to late twenties. I would definitely find a way in a two year relationship to make them think twice, if I thought they were “making a mistake”. I did with my own daughter, and she thanks me now. People do not always listen to good advice, and do what they want to, anyway, as I am sure your friend knows. I think it is interesting the way you explained your interest in following celebrities, now I can see why you “bother” to speculate. Too many people, especially younger people, are so caught up about having their own immediate needs met that they forget a marriage is about two people and not about themselves.

Re celebrity culture and worship: It used to be that those exalted were exalted on merit. Leadership qualities, personal acts of heroism etc.

Tell your friend that she’s doing a great job with her analyses about these two. That somewhat made my day b/c I think the same way. They don’t belong together and always seemed weird with their bodylanguage to me. Hayden is not happy. Don’t know if his relationship with Rachel is the only reason. I doubt that. IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE and there are pictures to prove it. They did not want him and he was hear broken not the other way around.
Both Hayden and Rachel are from Italian background, so it is a plus for their relationship. Their grandparents have then something in common.
My friend’s professional assessment still stands. She’s had over eight years experience in the field of relationships. For those who feel that body language isn’t a relevant issue, it’s used successfully by many law enforcement agencies around the world when interviewing suspects, and store detectives who attended a course on body language and how to read it found their success rate in apprehending shop lifters to be significantly greater than before.
Interesting thought: Hayden is an actor and knows the relevance of body language and how important it is as a tool in his profession. Either he is acting his lack of connection with Rachel or his body language is based on real feelings. Why act though? What purpose would it serve? It could be that he’s just a cold fish and lacks the ability to show emotional depth because there is none. But I would imagine that lack would be an impediment to his career.
This problem with his interaction to Rachel was noticed by many people before I started reading about it. It has raised many questions as to the true nature of his relationship. Until his responses are more spontaneous I guess it will raise many more.

@voice of reason: Quite a few of us do know the meaning of the word, just as we also know that it’s spelt without an apostrophe. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves, a good book that contains a chapter on apostrophe use and, more importantly, when not to use it.
While I can understand the need of people in the limelight to shut themselves off, as it were, from too much media scrutiny, to shut down in public, if you like, it has the adverse effect of making them appear dull and unresponsive. Better to be honest and open, even if some people find your comments controversial. We’ve all watched and warmed to celebrities who come across in that way even if we don’t agree with what they’re saying. HC has lost his early ’sparkle’, whether due to media harrassment or other influences, that much is apparent. If it is the result of too much interest in his private life, it would appear that he receives less coverage outside of HW than in it and perhaps he should consider moving permanently to a place where he is more secluded and secure to avoid it.
You don’t need to live in HW to pursue an acting career and I believe he has already stated his hatred of it.

This day in age most people forget how to use words but we could argue about vowels as well-colour/color which is correct? We’re odd things, humans, and public attention can fool us into thinking that we have a familial relationship with celebrities simply because so much of their personal lives are placed within the public domain. In fact, the truth is opposite. If we have never met or spoken to them then we don’t know them at all, but it’s human nature to judge those to whom we feel connected, either positively or negatively. Both are wrong because they’re both assumptions on the part of fans.
While no one should have to feel shut away simply to avoid (I’m really flubbing my typing today, fingers all over the place) the press, and I realise that all celebrities are under this burden, they can be avoided and staying in a place you don’t particularly care for anyway seems to have little merit.
Actually even my own comments come into that catagory. I see Rachel as boring simply because a lot of media coverage seems to portray her that way. Photos of her always shopping, come to mind. But for all I know of her, she could be doing far more exciting things away from the press like, I don’t know, whizzing up mountains on a pushbike, or scuba diving! Perhaps she’s actually an interesting person to know and the press haven’t been around to record it. I wish they would, sometimes, because she would go up in my estimation.
@jo I guess Rachel is not the media**ore some would like people to think. I also don’t think they are in LA but that could change-most places don’t report a minor sighting on a weekend.
Hayden is very good at this, as already mentioned he can go missing for months, and he has invited reporters to the farm before so those in CA and are interested would know where to look.
I have no idea what Rachel is like in real life, but I assume she has a character about her that Hayden loves maybe it could be as simple as the fact she is a family person loves her step-sister and shows alot towards Hayden’s niece. IMO that could be a huge draw card to him.
After 2 years and the way Hayden has always spoken about her and the fact they are engaged one would assume something is there, as you pointed out just because you don’t know what she is like in private, how can anyone say she is bad. Photo’s of co-stars looking at one another in total PR does not mean they are in love–(sorry nayden it does not, otherwise they would have dated, if even brief) what they HC/RB do behind closed doors is probably what the relationship is based on.

Thanks. It’s been really interesting studying this site actually, and others too. I think a lot of what is placed here says more about the people placing the posts than it does about the celebrities themselves, and the nature of fans in general.
Regardless of how we happen to feel personally about Hayden and Rachel’s private life, and some would appear to feel very affected by this, unless we actually know them we really don’t have any right to judge. Nor should we assume that they should behave differently because, in a similar situation, that is how we would respond. I hate shopping so I naturally assume that people who shop a lot have something wrong with them because it’s not an activity I would voluntarily chose to do but you’re right, it doesn’t stop her from being an interesting person. It’s my point of view based on my perception of shopping which, unfortunately I am projecting onto her without having any knowledge of her character whatsoever. I wonder how much fan imput, if you like, is derived not from what we actually know, but from our own projections and likes/dislikes? Without direct knowledge of these two people via friendship then all our assumptions are invalid and irrelevant.

I’m in New Jersey and believe me none of the local papers here claim that they were ever in NJ. So do not believe all you read pretty sure there are other places to go then Canada, Bahamas or NJ. @Cin: Might last a bit longer, really nothing in life is certain and we only, most of us, me certainly, know what we know of them through the distorted aperture of media scrutiny, and not through knowing them as people. I admit that I have a problem raising any feelings of warmth towards Rachel as a person because of the way she is portrayed in the media and the way she comes across in interviews and brief recordings of various fashion shoots. Her character is the antithesis of what I find enlivening in other people but it is only a snapshot of her life that we’re seeing and she might be so different to meet face to face.
There are people who have met Paris Hilton and they say that she is very intelligent. They have met her, I haven’t. So my view on her being as thick as a yard of lard might be totally inaccurate. I do hope it isn’t though because I just so love to hate her.

@260 The Constellation Awards are Canada’s science fiction awards for 2008 films, tv shows, etc. Just google it and you’ll see. RB is the only one nominated from Jumper. I’m surprised that HC isn’t nominated, especially since he’s Canadian. Jumper isn’t even nominated for special effects or anything else.

@funkey: I do feel that’s actually a very revelant statement. Both are ’single’ ( i.e. not in other relationships), free, have no ties, no baggage (no kids, spouses, dependants e.t.c), have a financial independence that most would envy. If they were that much in love and committed to each other there is nothing in their lives to hold them back. A marriage would certainly not harm their career prospects. It’s been over 2 years now and statistics show that more women want a marriage commitment than men. Going by that, it’s most likely that Hayden is the reluctant one and Rachel is either accepting of that or pressing but without success so far. Beware though of forcing a man to the altar because it doesn’t work.
Jo & Funkey, there are lots of reasons why couples choose to have long engagements or short engagements. For example, I know a couple that was on a two year waiting list to have their wedding reception at a vineyard. Another couple moved their wedding date sooner than originally planned when their matron of honor, who lived out of state, found out that she was pregnant. Also, there are the guests to consider when planning a wedding. Sometimes work schedules conflict and if a couple really wants that person present, then they have to take that into consideration. I could go on and on. Bottom line is that we will just have to wait and see.

Your right some people will choose long engagements but, this is show business, people are engaged and marry within a very very short period of time. Seldom do I see many that go beyond it. And pushing a man to the alter usually leads to a dead end.

I have never said they were together at Christmas only time it was mentioned was weeks prior, most at that time thought they “may” spend Christmas together that did not happen.
Seeing as you “heard” that she was telling people at christmas parties they were engaged you must have an idea why she did not wear a ring for 3 months after, you don’t normally say anything unless you can show some bling.

Are you serious? Do you really think that marriage is important? It’s not! It’s just a piece of paper that confers the ownership of one person, historically the man, over another, wrapped up in religious hogwash! I believe HC is an atheist so maybe he can see the stupidity in marriage! Love betwenn two people of like minded desires and like minded interests needs no authority except that of the heart and soul. Truth! Seriously! Marriage is encouraged by weak, self-promoting individuals precisely because they want the legality of owning something, in this case another person. Nowadays it’s usually women who do it because they feel it will stop their men from straying. We really don’t need marriage in today’s society. It’s an anachronism that dates back centuries, so how about being more open and modern about love and relationships.
Also the whole divorced women after money thing, really burns me. If you don’t have the courage to stand on your own two feet and work to be financially independant after a divorce, then you have no right to call yourself a woman. You are still the dependant of a man, an owned thing. Jesus, we are so weak, and as long as we keep thinking this way we will always be the weaker sex.
In these days of modern ages when it comes to love and relationships, still there are people who are very conservative and romantic.I am not sure if Hayden and Rachel are these kind of people, but who knows?

Romantic is looking into another persons eyes, someone you feel very strongly about, someone who, if neccessary, you would move the earth for, and gladly, and seeing all that reflected back at you! It’s not about marriage, romance is about people, people in love.
I think there is nothing to be ashamed of as a woman. Men in general want to take care of their women, while women want to be protected by their men. It is how it is inspite of modern ages. Of course, there are exemptions to the rules. The importance is, depends on what a certain couple makes happy.
For me, marriage is romantic. It is like a confirmation, that you belong to each other, going the same path hopefully for a long time. Well, to each its own opinion what marriage means.
Of course, you have to be in love first before marriage.

We do not complete each other, our different strengths compliment each other, compliment, not complete because we, on our own, as individuals, are as complete as nature made us.

@288 Jo, FYI the couple that I was referring to that waited two years to have their wedding reception at a vineyard have been married for almost 13 years now. It was my cousin, and her wedding was 2 weeks before mine. Marriage isn’t for everyone, but waiting two years doesn’t make someone retarded either.

This isn’t really a comparison if people we all know have been in long engagements or short ones, stay married for 2 or 20 years. The problem is that celebrity marriages have a high fatality rate and many don’t survive no matter how long they have known each other or not. Not to say some can’t or don’t many older actors like Newman and Woodward had been married years so it seemed but, they were not 1st time married both had been married prior too. Smith and Pinket again they are long lasting but, Smith was in another relationship prior and with a kid before Jada. In the end many remarry and make it work or broke off from longer term relationships to find their soulmate in someone totally different from the ones they were with.
The fact of the matter is these two are totally mismatch granted they have known each other for years. Something doesn’t mesh, they don’t blend or touch, look or admire each other in the way that a long lasting relationship would they are just not natural. And truly it’s him that isn’t into this, Bilson is all over him wanting, pushing so it seems to get him to the alter. I think in the end if this goes to that point it will crash and burn not long afterwards.

@S: Nine years in a happy relationship, no marriage as it’s something we both feel would impinge on our rights to be free individuals while still caring for each other. We work, have no debts, no joint accounts, share costs and bills but our money is our own to do with as we wish. I cook, he cooks, I do housework, he does housework. We have joint holidays and seperate holidays. We have each other so we don’t need marriage. 75% of guys I know personally are unhappy in their marriage and have said that if they had their lives to live again, they would not choose to be with the person they are currently with. Marriage makes personal freedom of choice far more difficult than an open, loving relationship where both respect each other as individuals. I don’t see much respect in Hayden and Rachel’s relationship, I see distance.

As i posted before, what matters most is what a couple makes happy, married or not. Although practically, you are like a married couple already, like belonging to each other. Still it does not mean to me, owning each other.It is more like sharing each others eveready life, thoughts, etc. In regards to Rachel and Hayden, that i do not know for sure, because i dont know them personally. What we see is just a very little part of their lives they allowed us to witness. If they harmonized or not behind closed doors, that , i have no clue. Still, I belong to those people who wish them luck.
