Angelina Jolie - World Refugee Day PSA
For this year’s World Refugee Day on June 20th, Angelina Jolie recorded a public service announcement (PSA) to draw attention to the plight of the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of war or persecution.
The 34-year-old UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador actress says in the PSA, “Please don’t turn away. Refugees are the most vulnerable people on earth. Every day, they are fighting to survive. They deserve our respect. Please do not forget them. Remember them on this day. World Refugee Day.”

Angie, film more clips before the 20th, it will draw more people to the cause. Will done, Angie is a beautiful person, inside and out.
Remember when Oprah didn’t care for Angie, ha! Angie proves you can be powerful and not a narcissist.
I have always admired Angies kindness and her candor regarding her life with Brad and the kids. Angie and Brad are the most hunted celebs in the world and everyone is interested in their family and home life altho you get your poor x whiners biatching but really who cares? Angie and Brad certainly don’t.

It’s not a matter of showing off. She was chosen to ber embassador for those reasons. To raise awareness you have to show your face. There is no other way. She is a compassionate person and if she did it just for play it wouldn’t be already 8 years she is working for the UHNCR. It’s since 2001. If it was a game she would be fed up. She does it because she really cares and she channels the fame in the right way. I really hope that there could be more peace in the world.

I would say better than others on here that Brad and Angelina are very popular and they keep it very low key for the most part. Brad and Angelina have their fans just like other actors/singers do.

@Layla: why are you taling about Brad Pitt? This has nothing to do with him. Angelina is a separate person from “Brangelina” and she has been raising awareness and traveling to learn about refugees and a lot of other things way before Brangelina happened. Give her credit and stop bringing up her relationship that has nothing to do with her activist work.
That’s right biyatches Angelina is doing her job. And a good job at that. No other celeb has brought the spotlight to her cause better and more effectively than Jolie. The UN should try to keep her on board for as long as possible. There are other Ambassadors. Lots of them. But they are not doing their jobs as well. It’s just a title for them. Angelina does the work REQUIRED and then some. I mean what Ambassador has personally flown planes to do food runs (distribution) in Africa? Angelina Jolie that’s who.

UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassadors are, along with High Commissioner António Guterres, the public face of the UN refugee agency. There are not many of them, but they help bring UNHCR to every corner of the world through their celebrity, popularity, influence and hard work.
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani and American actress Angelina Jolie, who has visited more than 20 countries since being appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, have a truly global reach. Others have a loyal and strong national and regional following, like Turkish singer Muazzez Ersoy, Spanish TV presenter Jesus Vazquez, Argentinian soap star Osvaldo Laport and Julien Clerc of France.

Greek musician George Dalaras and Egyptian stage and screen star Adel Imam straddle the international and national arenas, while acclaimed soprano Barbara Hendricks brings enormous influence and experience as UNHCR’s only Lifetime Goodwill Ambassador.

Most UN humanitarian agencies have Goodwill Ambassadors and the basic requirement for the post is a real desire to help people in need. UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassadors have all either worked with UNHCR or shown a keen interested in refugee issues before taking up the appointment. They must be approved by the High Commissioner, before being formally appointed by the UN Secretary-General. They generally sign a contract for a certain period of years.
