Angelina Jolie - World Refugee Day PSA
For this year’s World Refugee Day on June 20th, Angelina Jolie recorded a public service announcement (PSA) to draw attention to the plight of the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of war or persecution.
The 34-year-old UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador actress says in the PSA, “Please don’t turn away. Refugees are the most vulnerable people on earth. Every day, they are fighting to survive. They deserve our respect. Please do not forget them. Remember them on this day. World Refugee Day.”

# 149 bermy girl @ 06/15/2009 at 5:26 pm vickifromtexas - hi. ITA Angelina is an inspiration on many levels. We may not lead her lifestyle or have her resources but she (along with others) demonstrates that beauty, talent, and glamour can all be compatible with compassion and purpose.
I also admire how she decided to re-direct her focus and goals in life. I truly believe the love and fulfillment that came her way is a direct result of the changes she made in her life.

I hear what you are saying PT, My point was that no other HW star, or wife of a HW star has whined about a relationship as much as X.
.

I got that and I agree. I just think Uma’s a bad example of someone who didn’t whine. What the hell was she going to whine about when she was put in the exact same position as Gary Oldman’s first wife? The fault lies with the men because they’re ones who were married and Uma was really young at the time…but…after Oldman was invovled in other relationships with men who were either married or living with someone. Robert DeNiro just to name one. And while I don’t believe Brad cheated on X, I also think if he’d deep-sixed X in 2002 or 2003 when he had one foot out the door everything that’s been blamed on Angie would be a moot issue. The fact is - men can’t be “stolen” or tempted away from anything they’re fully committed to and invested in.
.
BTW - isn’t “What goes around comes around” synonymous with “Karma”? I definitely believe What goes around comes around or karma or whatever you want to call it. It’s a basic fact of life - eveything is cyclical.
Hello JP Fans! Thanks Jared!
Angie is awesome…they both make me so proud to be a JP fan!
@claire:
I agree with you totally. Before he met Angelina, Brad was just an actor in HW. Brad has become a better man because of Angelina. I believe behind a sucessful man there is always a good lady.
I think she needs to help some of the poor starving kids in our country also!
ewww @ 06/15/2009 at 6:11 pm
poor kids in america are still live 10 times better than refugees in other poor countries. also, its not angie’s job to take care of the kids in america and other countries but she chose to help other countries because she knows they need more help than here. the condition of the refugee from other countries are really bad. i know because I was a refugee.
Congrats to brad and angie on their teen choice awards, maybe they’ll take maddox and pax
Brad and angie are cool with the teen crowd, lol
I think she needs to help some of the poor starving kids in our country also.

First of all where is your country? Second of all she works for the U.N. and all countries in the world are represented. She worked with the displaced people in New Orleans and there have been reports that that she and Brad bought books, chairs and desks for school children in NewOrleans too ( if your country is the U.S. - that is).
@UPI: no they’re not. Brad pitt will win because the idiots still Blame everythin on Angelina and they just love the old Botox man known as Brad Pitt. I have a feeling that if Angelina didn’t come out raising Brad pitt up on a pedestal most would probably dislike him just as much as they dislike her. She gushes about every man she has ever worked with/dated.
Frenchy @ 06/15/2009 at 5:07 pm I would just love love love if Angelina were to be interviewed by one of my favorites Christiane Amanpour but I think Christiane has a lot on her plate right now in regards to Iran. I also think she only interviews world leaders. I wonder if they have ever cross paths? Still Anderson would be my next choice. I can’t wait for the interview.
####################
Christiane thinks the world of Angelina. She knows her every well. She has spoken glowingly of Angie and her work. And believe me it would be hard to find a more thoughtful, intelligent and no BS journalist than Amanpour.

Here it is:
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt used their star power Saturday to help The Children’s Health Fund focus attention on the more than 46,000 children still displaced 21/2 years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed their homes.
Jolie said her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees prompted her to get involved with the CHF’s effort.
“This is the largest displacement of children in my own country so I want to learn as much as possible,” she said at a news conference.
A report issued earlier this month by the CHF found that 46,000 to 64,000 children affected by the hurricanes were still at risk for a host of medical, mental health and educational problems complicated by a lack of support services.
“Many families are distressed about how long and difficult the recovery has been,” said Dr. Irwin Redlener, president of the CHF and director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, which conducted the study.
“We’re concerned that this issue has fallen off the radar screen and that, nationally, people are losing interest, saying this is a ‘local’ issue. We dispute that. This is a national problem and one that requires an intense and focused effort to fix,” Redlener said.
Redlener said it was “unacceptable” that more than two years families were still living in federally issued travel trailers or other temporary locations. “This is an American challenge that should have been met a long time ago but hasn’t.”
Jolie said that in her travels she has seen many children who feel defeated.
The difference here, she said, is that children “are feisty, fun and full of pride. They know where they’re going and what they’re going to do. It’s that kind of spirit that will help everyone get through this.”
Pitt and Jolie have made New Orleans their home since the hurricanes and have been working to help the area recover.
“We’re focused on community building,” Pitt said. “It’s not just about homes. It’s not just about building. It’s about the lack of focus on education and health care too.”
Pitt has pledged more than $5 million to Make it Right, a project to rebuild 150 homes in the Katrina-devastated Lower 9th Ward, one of the city’s most impoverished neighborhoods.
Redlener said his group and the Regional Consortium for Children in the Gulf, a coalition of several groups, have devised a “prescription for what must happen now,” with proposals including:
· Urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency to develop a process that ensures that every relocated family goes into appropriate housing in safe neighborhoods with access to schools, community based sources of social support and health care.
· Urging federal and local officials to ensure access to onsite health care and mental health services for families still living in temporary housing.
· Creating relocation options for families who want to leave the Gulf Coast and move to other communities.

May God take care of the less fortunate and May God give us a warm-compassionate heart to help them, just as Angelina is doing so.
May God bless this new Mary Magdalene for her extraordinary example of a woman who overcame the darkness to become such a bright caring and sensitive soul able to help in need.
…alright, you’re getting brownie points for talking about christiane amanpour and ‘the jolie’…smart ladies…
Her beauty transcends mere physicality. By word and deed she shines above the rest of HW. In a world where the outside beauty of a person garners media praise and adoration she shows that true beauty encompasses what is on the inside as well. IMO HW has degenerated from what true talent once meant-the ability to act. Yet, she truly is a renaissance woman who is multi-faceted as can be seen by her professional and personal endeavors. This is not a dig at any other past or present actress/actor, she truly is an admirable original. The rest of the world can have its “flavors of the month” give me THE JOLIE anyday.
Plus Brad, Angelina and Brad’s siblings and in-laws have just donated $1 million to help build a hospital for cancer patients in Missouri.

brad is gorgerous. angie is beautiful. he doesn’t need angie and angie doesn’t need him. they already are famous in their own right and have their own popularity. however, the combine of these two made them more powerful.
@massarelli: Talk bad about others neither honey.

@Nahla:
Well, she made it clear from the very beginning that she would use her fame to enlighten us about the hardships these refugees have been facing. She is not clearly showing it off just for the sake of showing off, okay? She’s honest enough in what she is saying, that is, ‘to use her fame’.
Besides, it’s her responsibility as UN Ambassador.
Nice P.R…Angie knows how to work it. Although that receding hairline is getting bad.
@pokeman: who said they’re not famous on their own? it’s about the continued misdirected hate. They’re still hating her for wrecking HIS home. He’s the one that wrecked his own damn home. Angelina changed his image from dumb to whatever he is now, and Brad changed her image from humanitarian/ single mother/activist/kick ass chick to home wrecker ugly devil woman.
Why is she showing her manly homewrecking face on the clip????why not only the clip with a voice to give it credit?? why wh*ring herself again ??? they couldn’t just show the clip with a voice?? her transvestite face destroyed the clip, she is taking advantages from this poor people f*cking media wh*re.
